When the group finished warping out of the Dueling Grounds, they landed on one end of a platform, leading straight forward to a path split with teleporters plainly in view at either end. Axl immediately started down the path, Red's scythe now strapped to his back. Octavia clambered up to his shoulders and gently tapped his cheek. "Are you alright?" she asked softly.
"...no..." Axl replied softly, his voice firm and controlled even as his hands shook. "But I'm not going to be better...until The Professor has been dealt with. That way, I can free my men." X's eyebrow shot up in response to that statement, and Zero smirked proudly. "So I'll deal with him...then deal with this."
Octavia nodded softly. "Alright." She sat back, letting him choose the path, X and Zero following.
"We stick together," Axl declared firmly, and received no argument.
Axl led them through the left teleporter, and along a straight path of separated platforms and walls that required careful air maneuvering to get through, and bomb throwing drones, laser grids, and fire breathing canine mechanaloids guarding the paths. Another path led into a curved path, twisting back and forth as they dealt with radar towers and giant turtle mechanaloids. Much to X and Zero's surprise, Axl made excellent use of Red's scythe, splitting most hostiles in a single swing from midair. Apparently, the scythe carried the drivers to use it properly.
A teleporter took them to a wider area with larger platforms patrolled by the canine mechanaloids, though they now came in different colors, with red ones breathing fire while blue ones unleashed frost, and where the path split once again. Axl led the way to the left.
"Do you know where we're going?" Zero asked curiously.
"Forward," Axl responded firmly. "With the security disabled after the maze was set up, it's impossible to be sure of more than that."
Before long, the group reached a large, open chamber with eight teleporters, each one with what looked like a sarcophagus in front of it. "This...this isn't part of the Palace," Axl stated worriedly, glancing around as he tried to make sense of the surroundings. "At least...not a part I recognize..."
"We do," X growled out, his hands flexing angrily.
"We faced a chamber like this every time we went up against Sigma," Zero added, his eyes flinty. "He made us face off against copies of every Maverick we'd had to deal with in each of the conflicts. Here...this 'Professor' is making you face duplicates of your men."
Axl's eyes hardened. "And what happens when they're beaten?"
"The teleporters shut down, and generally whatever marks them breaks," Octavia continued. "In this case, probably the sarcophagi-"
With a roaring shout, Axl seized Red's scythe and hurled it, sending it spinning through the air, smashing the sarcophagi and shutting down the teleporters as it went, curving like a boomerang to destroy all eight before returning to his hand. "I don't play games for the entertainment of my enemies," he growled out as he strapped it to his back.
Seeing this, Zero chuckled as he pulled out of his duck. "Yup, definitely a Light," he teased, elbowing X playfully.
At Octavia's confused expression, X rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "I...did the same thing when Zero and I were going after Sigma after the Eurasia incident."
"When you came back with the Ultimate Armor?" Octavia clarified. She thought about that for a time. "I get to smash the warps next time," she stated firmly.
A final teleporter appeared in the center of the platform, and the group stepped up into it.
At the other end of the teleporter, a figure floated above the platform they found themselves on. He was bright purple with green armor covered in white tubes, sticking out to amplify his energy production. A massive gun sat in his right hand. His face, however, was unmistakable. "Sigma!" X, Zero, and Octavia snapped out angrily, drawing their weapons as they got into combat stances.
"Who were you expecting?" Sigma laughed out. "Seriously, eight Mavericks rampaging and the world in peril...who else did you think it would be?"
"You just can't stay down, can you?" Zero growled out. "I thought we were finished with you last time. How'd you survive?"
"Actually, Zero, I have to thank you for last time," Sigma replied wickedly. "It opened my eyes to how dependent I became on that Virus you gave me. I was far greater before I ever let it into my systems. I would have been better off if I'd never been infected, never accepted that program's offer of power." He glared down at Zero. "Not to say I wouldn't have followed this path without it. I was on my way there to begin with. So long as this world is humans and Reploids, so long as there is division...there will never be peace. And I will claim the power to end that division permanently...by wiping the human scourge from the face of this planet, and creating the world only for Reploids we deserve!"
"You're insane!" X proclaimed angrily, raising his buster.
"Am I, X?" Sigma asked, lifting the massive gun in his hand. "Or am I the only sane Reploid left in this world as it rots from within? We are the future, and it's time for the past to be-AAAAGH!"
Axl lowered his scythe as the hand holding that massive gun dropped to the floor. "You talk too much," he growled out, his eyes as hard as agates.
"Why do this?" Sigma demanded angrily, clutching the stump. "You really think humans and Reploids-"
"I don't give a damn," Axl responded firmly. "Humans, Reploids, past, future...that's not my concern." He braced the scythe in both hands. "But you turned my men into crazed puppets, and drove the man I saw as a Father to betray everything he stood for to protect them. You are an enemy of Red Alert, and as the leader of this organization, I will destroy you and reclaim our home! Prepare yourself!"
Growling, Sigma lifted his stump arm, causing the hand and gun to fly back to reattach. "You think you can stop me? A punk like you? Bring it on!"
We require appropriate music.
So are we not going to have a Mega Man X8 in the storyline? I mean sure the main bad guy in that one isn't Sigma(even though he's one of the final boss phases) but I have a good feeling Axl's going to murder Sigma with extreme prejudice...and that's cool with me. Also his whole 'human's and reploids future' crap is kind of out dated when humans and reploids can happily be married and have kids together...so now it's less 'humans and reploids future' and more 'back in my day' kind of scenario...he's stuck in the past, and won't ever get out of it unless he permanently dies...
But oh well that's all my venting about silly things, this be your story and your stories are amazing, keep up the good work Tatsuro
Dr. Wily.
I like this Axl, can we have more of him please?
7652774
Actually, it's more he sees humanity as an impure contagion and scourge upon existence, and Reploid/human hybrids as abominations.
cue the bad ass boss battle music
7652793 Thank you for telling me that...but sadly I still have problems with this all and I'm not sure how to word it. Maybe it's because Sigma's too stubborn for his own good and I just want him to die, me thinking he's just an old man that just won't accept that the worlds better without him ranting and raving about how reploids should be better when reploids are almost the same as humans, or just hating him because I hate him....it's weird
And thus Tavi was never able to break the teleporters as Sigma saw the error of his ways and stopped using them.
...Nah.
7652833
Never denied he was insane, and never claimed he was right.
7652852 Wait....uh.....holy shit that's hilarious
7652862 Thank you...just weird thoughts about a cool story ya know?
Glad Axl managed to cut to the point there.
Well pissing Axl off is gonna cost Sigma an arm and a leg.
I'm pretty sure Octavia is gonna have a smashing time when eight more teleporters show up.
And once again, Sigma basically defeats himself by royally pissing off someone stronger than he is.
7652883 All True. And with Axl there, Sigma will see the LIGHT.
This line in the chapter is what I made the pun off of.
Cue the epic final boss music and ready the popcorn. Looking forward to more.
Keep up the great work. Deus tecum.
7652787 Don't you mean Dr Wahwee?
I'm still stunned at how badass you've been able to make the whiny bitch that is MMX7 Axl. Seriously, I know people usually think of Flame Hyenard, but All was the one who really got on my nerves.
7653214
It's amazing how much the right mare can make someone shine, huh?
Definitely enjoying Axl taking a level in badass.
7652852 So hilarious
7653118
Doctah Wahwee.
We need to get to da wadaw woom and find Doctah Wahwee.
7652757 I agree, but a heavy metal rendition of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is certainly not appropriate theme music for a final confrontation. I believe this is far better.
Though this is also very appropriate:
I loved the Sigma battle music in X7, honestly. First form more than the second.
7653431
Bah. Everyone knows that orchestral music is the way to go for boss battles
7653630 Ah ok. Thanks pal. Should have remembered that.
7652852
...wait, why doesn't Pinkie have a laugh emote?
7653792 she does have one.
AND IT'S THIS ONE! =>
7653854
"Happy Pinkie Laugh" and "Crazy Pinkie Laugh" are two separate things, and you know it.
7653894 but you didn't say what kinda laugh you meant you were only asking for a laugh emote
7653899
...fair enough.

Troll Commander Princess C, mission has been accompliced
XD i got ya good, right?
But we do need a happy pinkie laugh emote. That i agree on with you.
7653951
7653970 sorry....
Wasn't apparently as funny to you as it was to me
Sorry
i call epic badass solo fight for this lasty battle
So, Axl went from wanting to be a Hero of justice to being an angry black reploid? Bass would approve.
7652774
The Sigma there is a weak copy and only the Boss in easy mode. Wait no, that's in Command Mission.
7655962 I've played Mega Man X8 on all the difficulties, and I believe 100% normal and or hard difficulty...not entirely sure. But I know that on Easy mode in Mega Man X8 Sigma is the only boss and is the final variant to Sigma, as per what he specifically said in game, where you're getting the clones is all the robots that are like Axl who can shape shift into other robots, so he decided to take over all of them and make them look like him and cause a rampage, while in normal and hard difficulties there's an extra lady that was in the opening cut scene of the game showed the actual final boss. I'm sorry if it kind of started off as 'Oh! Well I played' blah blah blah it's more for the info to be out there so I don't confuse other people.
Axl with the Scythe brings this to mind:
And given he had an energy scythe during the Repliforce incident, you'd think Sigma would have trained enough with one to be able to avoid loosing his hand like that.
Still, looking forward to seeing Axl demolish Sigma. Will Axl get a nickname like Black Reaper or something from his men to show how badass he's become???
7656131
Sigma did train enough with a Scythe to dodge scythe blows...
With his fourth body.
This is his sixth. It does not have that training.
7656158 still, knowing he might have to fight Red, he should have been better prepared to face a scythe.
7656213
Except his plan meant that Red was working for him.
7652852 There is a reason why one of the rules is "If I can go somewhere else to get my power much easier, I will. I can always come back later." Clearly Sigma failed to follow The List.
7656229 X, Zero, and Octavia have been able to turn his pawns against him before, He should have been prepared for the chance they freed Red and he joined up with them to get revenge.
7653431 Dramatic is great but those songs give me the feeling that Axl is going to be doing some crazy Jedi/Hawaiian Torch type stuff with his new weapon, deflecting huge shots while Sigma dodges every attack with ease like Sans.
Also, Octavia's cover fire would look like her pawing and the air if she's using two busters.
None of this standing, circling then slowing dashing at each other which phases out to our battered heroes returning home. A some-what happy ending showing as the camera pans out to show everyone in the room they're standing in as we see Reploids and Humans working around our characters.
Go Axl!
Since there's like 63+ more chapters after this, I'm going to take a wild guess and say The Professor's still gonna be frequenting the local Instant Ramen shop.
Huh, this is some sequence breaking I can get behind.
Yeah, no, bullshit. There was no indication that Sigma was the sort of person who would default to the Maverick cause until he got bitched slapped by memes. There was no one in terms of malevolent Reploids with concrete plans in a well-organized unit before he came along, so the only thing he would need to worry about was the Meme virus that was infecting them all, which would've gone away once Zero got a smack to the face. So no, he would not decide to wipe out humanity, and for one simple reason; we have not seen one instance of a mindset wherein people have a bias or mistrust in Reploids on the scale that Sigma has described within the context of this story.
The only thing we've actually seen of this world is inside of a command center, where people come up with ways to tackle insurgent Mavericks (not because they have reasons for being the way they are, they're just rabid). Nothing's come up aside from some tiny, insignificant throwaway chapter where it's only then brought up that the reason humans have a bias against Robots is because they can't give birth (and nothing else), and it's then solved in an instant due to DNA research, and a character no one cares about gets married to a person no one gives a shit about in a relationship we've been given no time to see develop or appreciate (even worse than what happened to Mega Man and Kalinka). And you expect me to believe that there's some inkling of proof that humans might ever-so-slightly have something on par with Mavericks to worry about that causes someone to say "Oh, if I weren't batshit insane, I'd totally kill all humans because of 'the divide' between us" and have an excuse to cull them all?
I'm sorry Tatsurou, but you've failed to convince me that this is what a "real person" would do.
... So let me get this straight. You blare Rules of Nature out of fucking nowhere, but when the guy says the ONE LINE that people remember from Bleach, you don't start belting out Number One???
Well too bad, this is the first time the story's (attempted) to take Sigma the least bit seriously as a villain, and the main character's playing along for once, so I'm using it.
Too dad she never got the chance.
axl's about to bring the WOOP ASS to sigma's dumb plans, he better watch out.
