Heh, using the Elements as a buffer to absorb and dissipate the magic backlash. Tsk tsk Twilight, that was way too obvious a means of getting hold of them to blast Nightmare Moon.

While trying to keep them separated as a precaution, I have this sneaking suspicion that even scattered across Canterlot, or further, when that much magic slams into the Elements it's going to zap out to the others in an instant. And despite anyone wearing them, they'll do what they were designed for, purging disharmony. Will it be enough to blow NMM away in the same way Shining Armor and Cadance's love nuke took out the changelings? Will it instead be dispersed from not having a focus but a expanding sphere, weakening NMM? Another idea was the magic channels into the bearers. That much magic could turn them all into six (well five plus one over overcharged) alicorns temporarily if they don't just *pop* first... or nothing happens at all and NMM continues to build her empire.

And what happens to one-sided portals? With nothing on the other side do they become inert? Explode, like the Elements are trying to prevent? Turn into portal shaped black holes and dump passengers into the void between realities? While no one's going to cry over that place sending Whisp Knights, I'd rather not see the sorta-human world get blown up.
