Yes yes yes teenage drama is best drama!!
Well great. Now I'm sad. I can't wait to see Scoot and Sweetie make up though.
It is an excellent chapter and I can't wait for the next one
Oh hey! An update! Really wasn't expecting a Sweetie based chapter, but wow was it needed. Great dialog and you keep having a great knack for making us feel all the emotional drama. I'll be honest, I wasn't thrilled with Rarity's portrayal, but that's a personal preference.
Overall I was thrilled with the new chapter and am looking forward to more
Your upload rate may be atrocious, but you more than make up for it in quality of chapters.

It lives!
Another great chapter ^_^. And poor Sweets, that must've hurt her the most. Although there are plenty of mares in the sea. She'll have no problem snagging a good one some day, I hope her and Scoots have a good heart to heart though. Sweets needs it, even if Scoots doesn't.
I'm really happy this is back <3 Thank you. And thank you for the amount if effort you put in into makeing this chapter.
6231238 mares in the sea, you say?

And now I have that song stuck in my head. Thanks
On a better note, yes! Another chapter to soothe my uncontrollable urge to read.
Dont worry Sweetie belle you may still have a chance if Silver stays true to not returning scoots feelings
Wow, I honestly can't believe this updated today, after I just happened upon this fic and read it all in one go. Weird.
And now I can't help but wonder if this fic is gonna pull a bait and switch and end up putting Sweetie with Scoots instead of Spoon.
It makes me sad that Sweetie and Rarity don't get along in this fic, but it also makes a lot of sense and I could easily see it happening with Rarity's personality, especially as Sweetie gets older and more her own mare.
Glitter is awesome, nuff said.
I can relate to this whole story really easily, but I would be in the place of Silver, though.

One of my prereaders actually commented on Rarity's portrayal, and my response was to have him reread her dialogue and qualify each line as either complimentary or critical. The truth, as I pointed out to him, was that with the most critical assessment, there are 4 compliments and 3 criticisms, and with a generous assessment, the numbers could be 5 and 1. The only real point of contention is possibly Rarity's disappointment at finding out Sweetie is the soloist, and not Glitter, but considering Sweetie is only her sister--and has had a great deal to be proud of already in her life--and Glitter is essentially her daughter--and has had a very tough time--it's only fair for her to be a touch disappointed to find out Glitter didn't get the part. She still makes the effort to be gracious, and it's always possible that Sweetie misread Rarity's expression entirely (being, as she is, not altogether fond of Rarity).
Rarity is my favorite pony, and it was a little uncomfortable to write her this way, but I wanted to show Sweetie's perspective, which is skewed in a direction mine wouldn't be. That happens a lot.
6231785
Gah! My eyes! My poor eyes have been defiled !
Seriously though, I'm sad that modern MLP hasn't remade those to look better, rather than the blight against creation pre-FIM's MLP's art was.
6231821
Nah! What you were thinking of was:
6232926
That really makes a lot of since. Honestly I had sort of suspected that to be the case, but not to the full extent you explained. Often from Sweetie's perspective (as well as a lot of fans of the show) Rarity can come off as...well, in a negative light when I feel it shouldn't be. Knowing that this IS from Sweetie's perspective makes much more since and honestly I should have picked up on that seeing this is her chapter. But certainly, thanks for the clarification on Rarities reaction about the solo, that actually was what hit me in a bit of a wrong way. However, you made all the points on why and how it really was in no way a slight towards Sweetie.
6232926
Yeah, that does make a lot of sense. Not only is Sweetie a teenager, and therfore hyper sensitive to criticism, she also used to really look up to Rarity and I think now is dealing with that by going in the opposite direction. She's predisposed to take it 'the wrong way'. Great point about Glitter, too. I hadn't considered that.
Love it, as I have loved this fic from beginning till now. ^^ Glad I had the random urge to check in on FIMFiction today. :3
I could tell Sweetie wasn't as critical as AB was in the chapter a while back. Glad to see some of the reasons for her hesitation though. Sweetie has an odd portrayal in the show at times. She is clearly not the 'leader' of the group and goes along with what others suggest a lot, but at the same time has shown a rather keen perspective on how to manipulate the situation as well. In this case, she was overwhelmed by 2 more dominant personalities warring with each other, and got caught in the crossfire. The fact she had a bit of a personal shock gives a bit more emphasis on why she wasn't able to speak up at the time.
Keep up the excellent quality. I look forward to more of it whenever it comes around. :)
That was a great chapter Now though with Sweetie Bell coming out now I feel sad I do think Sweetie Bell and Scootaloo need to have a heart to heart Also was Snails a mare trying to portray a stallion or did he/she decide to be turned into a female. From what I read it seem it was a sex change spell that was permanently casted on snails Some clairfication would be nice but I'm sure eventually we will get it I WANT MOAR SOON! If that is alright with you.
6233670
Glittershell is a fan interpretation of Snails is a transgender. Essentially, Snails is a filly stuck in a colt's body in this case. I don't know how far 'progressed' this fiction is over where I have seen the character originally, but you can read a tumblr of the character >here<.
It was on hiatus for a while, but recently started making posts again. Though I haven't seen anything story related start back up again, mostly just cute asks and answers.

So when is the new chapter coming out? We aren't paying you with likes and favs for nothing y'know!
6238967
It's been three days!
That said, I have been feeling more...productive lately. I'll see if I can manage not to let another six months go by this time.
I've been readinv for three days now, I'm disappointed to reach here so quickly but I'm glad that you are optimistic with your productiveness, what you written is a drug and I'm addicted
As always, great chapter and story pacing.
I might even say it was worth the weight.
Well, this was... unexpected. Like, seriously, the whole chapter was completely out of left field.
I really love your version of Glittershell, though. Do you think we'll ever get a side story about her?
6242067
Unexpected...bad?
And maybe. Obviously I have to finish this behemoth first, but I might get my head into a Glitterfic someday.
6239295
Nah I was merely joking with you- one of the rare chances to use that joke honestly. Take as long as you need to make the chapter; after all I'd rather wait months for an amazing chapter then get a horrible ones a week at a time.
And I think River Road means unexpected as in "unexpected good", as he/she probably didn't see that Sweetie Belle was in love with Scootaloo as well.
6242454
That's kind of what I was hoping for. I'm honestly surprised there aren't more comments spoilering exactly that same point. I suppose people just weren't as shocked by that revelation as I intended. Ah well.
6242880 Well, if I may be quite frank here, we all generally know who Scootaloo is going to end up with. Not only that but you heavily implied a lot of stuff through constant uses of a character(s) blushing or denying certain accusations. Sure, you have thrown in a red herring in every so often to throw readers off the trail, but for someone like me who has read a lot of fan fictions and "seems to be able to get into the minds of the author(s)" . . . hasn't worked so well against me.
I'm more in this story for the characterizations and the drama that comes from it. Which, I'll be honest, you ave done an amazing part so far. I actually feel as if everything has been explained in a quiet and well-thought-of manner that I can accept even the most radical of changes to the show's canon; for instance Glittershell.
Actually, on that note, I want to thank you for making Glittershell Sweetie Belle's "best friend" instead of the other two Crusaders. It kind of shows that while the Cutie Mark Crusaders are indeed still friends they've grown up and have expanded their friends to other ponies and have even found friendships that they'd consider somewhat better than the ones with the Crusaders. Sweetie Belle has Glittershell; Scootaloo now has Silver Spoon; now the question is . . . who does Apple Bloom turn to when she can't turn to the Crusaders?
My money is her sister, who'd probably be highly disappointed in her actions towards Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle, even though she herself is guilty of having once acted that way. But this is just me musing . . .
Continue on how you please- I view this as a nearly perfect, if not highly acceptable, unofficial sequel to "University Days".
6242322
Not at all, just... unexpected. It basically brushes off everything we thought to know about Sweetie Belle. It's an interesting plot twist.
This story is simply awesome, already made me cry, laugh and made me feel identified with a few of the characters, love how it goes in deep with several interesting topics, id complaind for not updating often but its so good its worth the wait
Great, now I need to choose between two of my favorite ships
Just wanted to say thank you - for yet another amazing story. Kiro, your writing is what keeps me coming back to the site.
What you do is most appreciated.
6289963
Ah, the friendzone. How could Scootaloo possibly muscle her way out of it? Hmm...
6242907 YOU! You have changed my view of life with your last comment there. It does actually work quite well. I contemplated writing the suggested Lyra/Bon Bon (Sweetie Drops) spinoff, but I was too lazy. Now I just want to do the in between period to tie this to University Days.
6242907
Huh. Some time ago, I wrote a long, detailed response to this comment, but I was quite drunk at the time and must've failed to hit "Post" when I was done. I'll try to recreate some of it here.
I'm glad you took the time to reply. In my initial comment, I wasn't really fishing for "omgsweetieloo!" comments as much as I was rather expecting some surprise at Sweetie's admission. I kind of figured it would be a pretty swooping curveball, but I may well be mistaken, as it doesn't seem to have upset the balance much. Either that, or I foreshadowed it too strongly...or I'm just predictable like that
I don't expect anyone to be surprised when Scootaloo and Silver Spoon end up together. Spoiler--they do. The story is, after all, tagged "Romance" and not "Sad", so it's a pretty safe bet the only two tagged characters will probably end the story together. I see no reason to dance around that. The joy of a story--especially a romance--isn't the destination, but the journey. Well, sometimes it's the destination, especially if it's a slightly different destination than you expected, which depending on the course the journey itself takes, could be thoroughly surprising. It is also crucial to remember that setbacks are an important part of a story like this, and a ship that can sail through rough seas and survive is probably stronger than the one that has never had to. So to speak.
As for the Crusaders' best friends, that was a last-minute-yet-thoroughly-calculated decision. I'll try to explain. Glitter was initially going to be a 'second-best' friend to Sweetie. Scootaloo and Apple Bloom weren't meant to have 'second-best' friends so much as they were supposed to just have confidantes, and even that was sort of squirrely. RD and AJ were meant to fill the same role as Glitter: give the main characters someone to spout exposition at. But after some actual thinking--and some drunken rambling at Sharp Spark, who patiently and graciously let me be ridiculous at him--I realized the strength of my main characters relies extremely heavily on the secondary characters supporting them. Scootaloo is nothing without her mothers, the other Crusaders, and now Silver Spoon. The more genuinely detailed supporting cast I can feasibly add, the better, so long as it doesn't clutter the story. That's how Rainbow Dash's introduction initially felt, and it took several rewrites of the second chapter she has any major part in to dispel that and make her both three-dimensional and, after a fashion, crucial to the plot. Scootaloo needed somepony to come out to who would let her discover herself slowly, and also rein her in and prevent her making a mistake right out of the gate.
With that in mind, the necessity for both other Crusaders to have a similar guiding force in their life became obvious. Apple Bloom's was easy. Her family is her entire being, whether she likes it or not. They always will be, and everything she says or does will be deeply affected by her upbringing. There's a lot of backstory there that this fic just won't have time to get into. The point is, she doesn't make decisions on her own, because she can't. She's never had to, so she doesn't know how. Even if they don't intend to, all the Apples feed into one another's decision-making processes, resulting in a misguided sort of pseudo-hivemind. It's part of how they work so well together.
Sweetie Belle, conversely, has no direct guiding light. Her family is boring and while they love her very much, they just don't have the closest relationship. Rarity is the only one she's ever really had any serious conversation with, but they'll never be particularly close, mostly because she and Rarity are just too different not least because Rarity is adopted, though Sweetie Belle probably doesn't--may not ever--know. That leaves Glitter, who would never have existed without Kryptchild's creative force, and because Krypt set Glitter and Sweetie up as really good friends in the Glittershell tumblr, it made perfect sense to carry that friendship to its logical conclusion.
The point to this excruciatingly long treatise on horsfic is basically just that yes, the Crusaders are still very good friends, but if anypony asked, they wouldn't even describe themselves as best friends anymore. Granted, they don't even use the word 'friend' to describe each other--they rather prefer to just call themselves 'Crusaders' and leave it at that. And yes, Apple Bloom is sort of slim on the 'best friend' front. It might have been Babs at one point, but things happened, and she doesn't talk much to Babs anymore. It's probably for the best. Anyway, I'm sure lacking a best friend when her previous best friends have already found their own hasn't stunted her social growth at all.
6315212 I . . . . don't know if this is being sarcastic or honest. Or sarcastically honest.
So, you're welcome?
6315288 I believe you hinted at Sweetie Belle being still romantically interested in Scootaloo a bit too much. If it had just been hinted that she had an interest in the past, with an actual confession, then the revelation that she was still interested in Scootaloo that way probably would've had more of an effect. I mean it's the difference between: "Yeah I had a crush on her a while ago" as apposed too "I still feel that way about her". One you can dismiss as 'having happened" while the other is still ongoing and thus you can see it easier.
applauds
Very well said! That is why, for as god a story that "University Days" is, it fails on the basic level of drama as it fundamentally has very little of it- the major enjoyment one gets out of it is between the two characters falling in love. But when you look for conflict, there really is none. So in that respect I can admit your story is doing better than "University Days".
As for the whole "Crusaders with other friends" portion of your reply, I can say nothing more than what I've said in previous comments. It is good to see the Crusaders with other friends, even ones they consider closer to than the Crusaders. I've actually lived through this scenario in a way to be honest. i grew up with two friends that I knew since I was born and the three of us were very close- yet eventually we did spend less time together and eventually had different "best friends", but always remained close. I think the Crusaders view each other as almost pseudo-family for having spent so much time together.
Now you make me wonder what happened with Babs. Is she a lesbian too and Apple Bloom said something she seemingly can't take back?
In my head canon my OC, an "honorary Crusader" that advises them with problems they can't talk to anyone else about, would be chiding Apple Bloom over her actions towards Scootaloo. Basically I'd assume what I'm guessing is going to be Applejack's role in convincing Apple Bloom she was in the wrong and can still be friends with Scootaloo. But that's head canon territory
6315768 sorry about that misunderstanding. I was being sincere, and I'm glad that was at least 50% considered. My commenting style is... Strange, as some put it.
6315809
You know, it's really funny you say that, because I swear I made the decision to have Sweetie crushing on Scootaloo between writing "Role Reversal" and "Unfair". Apparently my subconscious knew what I wanted to do before I did.
I'll let you read the next chapter to see what happens when Apple Bloom finally talks to somepony else about Scootaloo.
As for Babs, I have a nebulous idea as to exactly why they don't talk anymore, but your suggestion makes me curious about something. I'm not opposed to having lots of sexually diverse ponies in my universe, partially just as a self-serving fascination with homo- and bisexuality, but I don't want to risk pushing the boundaries of people's belief. I've set this world up such that most earth ponies are heterosexual, but I've already introduced one in a same-sex relationship, and as many as three more who have had same-sex encounters/desires. The original plan was to make it such that Babs was not necessarily a lesbian, but that she and Apple Bloom had shared or experienced a same-sex encounter, and come away from it with distinctly different reactions, reactions intense enough to drive a wedge between them. The general concept is that young ponies, especially females, are both very curious and very close, and so sexual experimentation is not uncommon or (usually) taboo, although penetrative sex is, of course, discouraged. As a result, a lot of fillies end up experimenting with one another, distant relatives even moreso, as in the Apple family. Anyway, like I said, I'm still mulling over the actual circumstances of Babs and Bloom's falling out, but I wanted to discuss my general misgivings here and see what you might have thought.

Well, to fully answer this would require some pretty dedicated research and analysis on my part. Specifically, what are the ratios in each location? Maybe Ponyville just has a lot of females in it. Additionally, what are the ratios in each tribe? Maybe male unicorns are just rarer by nature.
That said, unlike their earth pony counterparts, unicorns and pegasi aren't really picky about being partnered or being monogamous. Pegasi in particular are pretty open about their relationships, although they typically defer to their partner's comfort level when they are involved. Unicorns are less agitated by solitude. Being single their whole life doesn't faze them like it would an earth pony, and a pegasus without some sexual outlet becomes cranky and sullen. That's part of how Moondancer and Twilight were able to go so long without any close relationships and not think anything of it. It's also why the most prominent researchers are usually unicorns. Lots of empty time to study.
So in short, earth ponies try for a 1:1 ratio, pegasi can be as high as 3:1 or more, and unicorns aren't bothered to spend their whole lives at 0:1.
2881439
She did, yes. The upshot is that she goes and confides in AJ about it because it seems odd to her, and that's the first real time that AJ gives her any reason to feel bad about lesbian relationships.
6404703
http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_ponies, at Season 3 it was at 752 ponies. If you'd like, it'd probably take me a few days. But I can go through all the data, as well as where the pony was located at approximately [Dodge Junction and Appleoosa look the same picture wise].
But that's still pretty cool.
6404827
That was rather Jerkish of AJ. Did AB buy the whole, exception to the rule thing? Well at least until Scoots came out that she liked mares?
6404874
Yeah, old text that hasn't been updated yet. I don't read my older chapters much because I've read them all 100 times already.
6405044
Mildly jerkish, I guess. Mostly it was just, "Well, it's not right, and RD should've known better than to involve Scootaloo in her unnaturalness. I don't want you getting mixed up in all that." To which AB presumably asked why it was a big deal, and AJ would explain that ponies are meant to be paired up male and female and explain it however she best can.
6405153
Understandable, I bet it takes a hundred read troughs to get the level of quality we see each chapter .
And Wow. That was quite a talk AB got. It's a little sad that she got taught that, I understand that she's a farm pony, but with her friends being who they are. Friendship should be more important than who you sleep with ... although just like in IRL, that's not always the case. Even in a land of magical talking ponies who use friendship to give villains a face full of weaponized rainbows.
6406266
Re: Rarity in that chapter. As explained in 6232926 , we only get to see Sweetie's side of the issue, and Sweetie is a dramatic teenager prone to exaggeration. She's also already got a chip on her shoulder having to live in Rarity's shadow, but Rarity has a hard time seeing that to know to be more sensitive, so the cycle continues.
6407062
Ah, that makes a bit more sense.
I was wondering why Rarity had a flash of disappointment, then looked at Sweets with dejection in her eyes. That was probably a real killer to Sweets. But seeing it through Rarity's eyes as her daughter not getting a chance to shine makes a bit of sense. And it's easy to see how that can be misinterpreted.
Then it was followed up by the backhooved compliment, and Rarity's obliviousness to how genuine Sweetie Belle is in her near crippling lack of self-confidence. Really seeing it as Rarity just being oblivious and colored by Sweetie's perception. Makes my opinion go up slightly, but still. You'd think that Luna who basically went NMM for the same feelings Sweets does [not that Sweetie Belle would go Nightmare, but could end up doing or saying something she'd reget much later in life], would play dream mediator for them.
Like she did with Sweetie Belle in "For Whom The Sweetie Belle Tolls", but letting Rares have a glimpse of things. Then letting them talk it out in the dream scape before they reach critical levels.
I mean Rares knows Sweets has a marvelous singing voice. Heck, everyone who hears her does. Yet, living in that shadow, and Rarity's criticisms and being as critical with Sweets as she is with herself [probably because she wants the best] ... idk. It kind of makes me sad for them. They had a good, really close friendship / sisterhood throughout Sweets formative years. It's sad to see Sweets being crushed under the shadow Rarity casts. At least she has Luna who knows that feeling better than anypony.
