Long ago, Equestria was in a golden age. Each race did its part to make the world a better place, and all bowed to the immortal god-rulers, the King and Queen. As time wore on, gentle leadership turned into tyranny, and the King and Queen eventually turned their backs on the denizens for reasons unknown. Several decades of decay, including the first real armed conflict Equestria had ever seen, passed. The once great country seemed to be on the verge of disaster, and yet the rulers still refused to use their great magic to help.
The young Princesses, Celestia and Luna, have their lives taken out from under them when a group of extremists and traitors seize the throne from their parents. With their magical abilities weakened, they, along with several newfound friends; a young human heir, his advisor and a pegasus filly seek out to forge a new alliance with the people of Equestria, and to put a stop to the chaos before it begins.

I suppose, as a late editors note:
This was the first serious writing project I've ever done, as well as the first fanfiction I've ever written. The original idea (and first-draft of this first chapter, at the time simply a prologue) was created over half a year ago and before Discord was even a rumor. From then, I've just slacked through a various amount of chapters, because I wanted to have a good bit done before I started posting anything. As of now there are quite a few chapters, each with an average of 9.5k words, even though most are unedited. However, because my original main-editor was in the hospital last we talked, and it's been months since I saw him, editing will be slow from hereon out, unless I get some volunteers.

Simon and Lawrence began as a reference, yes, but they gradually grew to be their own awkward characters. You'll definitely be seeing more of them in the chapters to come. They'll probably continue to drop yogscast references as the story goes on, but they're not going to be just Simon and Lewis copies.
As a heads-up authors note, I apologize for any sudden drop in quality. Like I said, my editor apparently died and he only ever managed to edit the first chapter. I'll be looking for a new editor soon, but for now I have to go through the long task of self-editing. If you happen to spot a typo or whatnot, please point it out. I would have waited longer to post this chapter, but I feel it's necessary to quickly get the first few chapters out there. Enjoy, I guess.
