In the frozen north, a few species of animals are still yet to be befriended by ponies. Following some light research, Fluttershy makes her way up to the Crystal Mountains to observe and make friends with the frost bears in the mountainous region, but she finds more than just bears in the snowy region of the north. When she returns to Ponyville with her discovery, the mare must make decisions that are not only best for her, but for the foal she now claims as her own. With a big heart, she gains more than a new friend, she gains a family that struggles to be normal when the little filly is anything but normal. Fluttershy will learn what it means to love unconditionally and teach a young filly just what it means to be family.

Fluttershy didn't see it coming. She hadn't even considered it a possibility—not to her poor Angel. Now grieving over the loss of her dearest friend, Fluttershy pushes those closest to her away and seeks comfort within the silence of her cottage. But one pony is more persistent than the rest...

After Winona has a run in with a skunk, Applejack does the natural thing and takes her to Fluttershy to be cleaned up. However, while taking care of the poor collie, Fluttershy realizes something; she doesn't know how Applejack got Winona in the first place. Curiosity gets the best of the timid pegasus and she asks. What she discovers not only reveals a lot about the little dog, but about Applejack as well.

Now curious as to what her other friend's pets mean to them, Fluttershy wonders about how Pinkie Pie and Rarity got their perfect companions as well.
