As Spike pines after Rarity, he remembers a bedtime story Princess Celestia told him long ago, called the Ballad of Firebrand and Olivine. The ballad was about a dragon and a pony falling in love, and the consequences that love brought upon them.

Spike dreams of becoming a true dragon, and with no one to help him, he seeks comfort and training from a returning Tempest Shadow. In the month before she must leave, can she give strength, skills, wisdom he needs? Two similar souls find solace.

Not that I blame them; I am a predator species after all, but that still doesn’t make it easy. Will I ever find my place in this world? Turns out I may not be so alone in my struggle for acceptance. Following Luna’s return, the bat-ponies are also faced with adversity and although most ponies see their return as ultimately positive, it only takes a couple bad apples to spoil the bunch. We are all individuals, with strengths and weaknesses and should treat each other as such. Unfortunately, not everypony sees it that way and although it’s natural to group yourself (and others) together, it’s still ultimately harmful.

As Gallus continues to try and explore the uncharted waters of being a special somegriff, the demons from his past rear their collective heads. Thankfully, Gallus has someone who loves him at his side, and she is more than happy to help him wade through a past of painful memories. A lifetime of clawing one's way through life eventually takes its toll though, and the only thing worse than losing everything, is losing it all after coming from nothing.

When a diplomatic meeting at Mount Aris is attacked by an unknown force, Gallus and Silverstream are whisked away behind enemy lines. As a new empire sinks its teeth into peaceful soil, the winds of war begin to howl. With nowhere guaranteed to be safe, Gallus once again has to fight with every fiber of his being;
