Allow me to be self-indulgent for a moment, and celebrate surviving another year! The last 365 days have been a heck of a ride; I'd try to unpack it a little more, but I'm getting pulled out the door to head out into the mountains for swimming purposes. (Which is far from the worst way to spend your birthday.)
In slightly less self-indulgent news, I had hoped to have a project announcement here, but it needs a bit more time to cook. (Hopefully this weekend, if I can fail to succumb to the distraction of the Writeoffs, where an Original Fiction Short Story round just started.) In the meantime, I've at least been reading some great stuff. Theycallmejub launched a criminally underviewed new story about an AU in the throes of a breakdown of harmony; the first chapter unpacks the final day of a unicorn suicide bomber, and it's a gripping dark drama that feels disturbingly relevant to the downward spiral of our current moment. If you're in the mood for something lighter, Skywriter broke a lengthy silence to drop a new comedy about interdimensional loopholes, and it was very much worth the wait.
