I loved it.
It was funny, the Mean 6 were hilarious (especially NotRarity) when they drove everpony crazy and the ending was also heartwarming.
A great episode.

All I can say is, never send an apprentice to do the work of the master!

Dammit cryssi! Y u look so god damn cute/

That bit a the end was definitely a "isn't this a kids show?" Moment. Harmony tree gives no fucks.

Ex-Queen Chrysalis was dumb as a brick, the elements actually require the traits to be present within the ponies for them to work. After Celestia used them on her sister they stopped working because one bearer used them on the other and broke the bond of friendship between them.

I was kinda disappointed. I expected a little bit more interaction between the mane and mean 6, in a manner where they actually face off, instead of the mean 6 essentially just offing themselves through their own ineptitude. I'm not sure why I'm not surprised to see that the mean six were just the discord versions of their counterparts from return of harmony. It felt like a really obvious foreshadowing move, that essentially gave away what the rest of the season is gonna be all about, and that the writers all got sick and some random dude in the studio had to throw something together.

Now I wish Mean Rarity was voiced by Andy Serkis.

You're not the only one disappointed. Quite frankly, I absolutely loathed this one.

4879299
I was a bit disappointed too with the events of the episode. But it did feel satisfying to see the Mean Six to get absorbed by the Harmony tree. (Although, it was pretty freaky, too.)

4879299
The kinda disappointed was an understatement. I'm just not the type to give scathing reviews unless I'm REALLY pissed off.

4879300
One thing i can't help but wonder is if that'll affect the tree later on.

4879303
Spoiler tags, please. Not everyone here chose to see the episode before the official airing. You're pretty much ruining it for them.

<Chrysalis> It's like herding cats with a firehose!

4879305
I’m so sorry! I didn’t know how to do the spoiler tags!

4879314
Well, it seems you're a fast learner.

And then everypony was snuzzled to death by a pack of ferocious puppies!!! O3O

I'm feeling a little let down after this one. Don't get me wrong, it had it's moments, but I can't help but feel that there were both too many loose ends, as well as no actual resolution.
Yes, Twilight and everyone stayed friends, but they never found out the real cause of their disagreements, so from this point forward they will assume that they each really did those terrible things to each other. Kinda leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. :fluttershysad:
As for the plot of one of my two favorite villains...
Soooo... the idea Chryssi had was to make copies of Twilight and friends, and have them steal the elements from the tree of Harmony... without actually knowing WHERE the tree was located.:rainbowhuh: And then when the tree destroyed Chryssi's underlings, she didn't even seem upset about it. Almost as if she, (like the rest of us), had known that they could never actually get the elements from the tree. Pretty thin plan... pretty thin.😒
As for loose ends. Chryssi is left standing right there in front of the tree. No one is there to stop her from finding a way to destroy it. No one even knows that she's there. She's still got her powers, and all the time in the world. Seems kinda open ended of an ending. I mean if they had alluded to her planning on destroying the tree at the end of the episode, it would have at least made for a good cliffhanger.

… You know, I just saw the episode myself. And I gotta say, this is probably the very first time we actually have a villain-focused episode in … ever. Have we ever had any episode in MLP that put perspective on an actual known villain at any time in the show's run? Honestly, it's nice they're trying a new perspective on somepony not willing to surrender to her.

The whole time with Chrysalis trying to keep control over the Mean six was an enjoyable one, though the discorded Twilight was who impressed me the most. Right off the bat, she's not afraid to point out how pathetic Chrysalis was, immediately asking who she didn't just wipe them out right then and there when she was close enough to get their hair and pictures. that, and she's not stupid and tries to turn the tables on Chrysalis (which I guess would be what she would do. Plus seeing Chrysalis frustrated over them so much was a joy to me. She's the shepherd to a flock of ornery rams who don't give a buck about anything she has to say.

Applejack: They're at a secret party up in that their tree. Run by a squirrel named Jerome. But you'll need a password to get in.
Chrysalis: ENOUGH! You will go out there and find the others. You will bring them back here, and we will steal the Elements of Harmony, so that I CAN DESTROY STARLIGHT'S LIFE, LIKE SHE DESTROYED MINE! UNDERSTAND?!
Applejack: … the party password is rutabaga.

Just seeing Chrysalis's face after that was priceless XD

And fake Rarity was just awesome XD

I wanted to like this episode, I really did. I definitely liked Chrysalis at least. But between the Mane 7 being stupidly clueless over something (most) of them really should know better about, a slow pace that suffered the episode further and arguably the most wasted potential in the entire show, I'm just left with a sense of deep annoyance over 'Return of Harmony, Lite edition' that feels out of place at this point of the show. Pretty much the only reason I'm not being too hard on this is because of hope that there's something in there that'll matter later (Raging and possibly insane Chrysalis still at large, those black flashes on the elements or the fact they straight up absorbed the Mean 6, thanks for that nightmare fuel). But as it is. it still leaves the episode languishing in 12th of 13 for the season and in my bottom 15 of the whole show.

At least we've got the hiatus now. Taking a breather, clearing the worst thoughts from mind and seeing if the second half of the season can build up the momentum it badly needs.

Oh holy crap everyone wants a pic of Rainbow Dash's butt. Maybe shes better from behind.

4879305
My one unspoilered post didnt have enough context to actually spoil anything but I put it up anyways just for you.

I know she is meant to be an antogonist and all that, but I've been starting to feel sorry for her lately.
Nothing seems to be going right for her (most of it for good reason), her entire brood have turned into skittle bugs (or swag stags in thorax and pharynx's cases) and now she can't even command organically grown nega-mane six. Everything is just crumbling around her and I just can't help thinking how lonely she must be right now.

Hey, anyone who was disappointed by this episode, I thought it was not bad but not good, that's saying something, right?

i know she's a villain but wow i feel sorry for chrysalis.

Man, Snarklight Sparkle is just owning Chrysalis. :rainbowlaugh:

I'm enjoying evil clone Twilight.

Starscream Sparkle

There's no laser fight between Twilight and Chrysalis. This episode was awful.

4879321
Your entire statement is exactly why I didn't like this episode

evil fluttershy scares me. also greedy raritys just so expressive.

poor starlight.

Chrysalis's plan was honestly pretty stupid. Why would you trust the elements of "disharmony" in the first place...? Especially when one of them has their special trait as betrayal.

I said it once, I'll say it again. Queen Chrysalis is nothing more than an over-glorified Smug Snake. Her plan was doomed from the start.

wait so the elements protected themselves? that makes sense since they choose who can use them.

4879350
Just as Celestia is an example of Stupid Good, Chrysalis is an example of Stupid Evil.

Oh for Celestia's sake, all that buildup and no confrontation!?

I love the fact they didn't find out that their doppelgangers caused the drama. They had to work out miscommunication bullshit on their own like the rest of us. Good stuff.

Did Chrysalis just steal all of the Elements? :rainbowderp:

4879350
maybe she planned on using the honor amongst theives code.

Chrysalis' first mistake was using trees as a base for cloning. Her second mistake was thinking her clones would actually listen to her...

4879361 Nope. She ran off in defeat that the heroines do not know about.

Shame this is the last episode for awhile. At least till the fall episodes or season 9.

Aaaaaand our dear Chrysalis can be recycled in the future, for the third time. Of cource they can't solve this whole problem out in just one episode.

4879365
i loved the fact she ended up acting like a flustered mother on a road trip.

Evil Twilight was by far the best part of this episode.

So... that happened. :twilightoops:

The Mean 6 were a lot of fun, especially Liarjack, Greedity and Snarklight. Bonus points for all of them getting on Chryssie's nerves, especially when Snarklight exhibits far more cunning than most villains we've seen. :pinkiecrazy:

However, this one feels like they could've gotten way, way more mileage out of the premise. A two-part episode would've given more room for them to set up and resolve the conflict in a satisfying matter as opposed to the tree just making them go poof. Heck, I would've loved it if Snarklight had outplayed Chryssie and forced her to ally with the Mane 6 just to save themselves. :derpytongue2:

Overall, a decent filler episode thanks to the Mean 6 playing off each other and Chrysalis. Not a whole lot else to praise, I think.

4879372
the changelings took multiple seasons to solve so chrysalis deserves at least 3 episodes. at least

So the episode has a plot that's focusing a villain who is still a villain? i say it did good. I'm a little miffed the mane six didn't truly learn about the mean 6, but it was worth it to see Chrysalis' plan fail so spectacularly. and this episode flat out confirms that cloning spells are a thing in Equestria. Wonder what fanfics that tidbit will spawn? And I don't usually make theories, but maybe the fact that the elements absorbed the mean 6 will play into Cozy Glow being the season finale villain. overall a fun episode but nothing to spectacular. 7/10 for me.

Question; why isn't Spike coming along with them on this trip? Is he busy hanging out with Ember and Thorax or something?

YAY! Chrysalis is back!

But wait…. What happened to the actual photographer??

Uh, I think Chrysalis went a little off the deep end after losing her hive… she’s talking to trees…

OK, that’s just cute.

Also Chryssie, the Elements of Harmony don’t work that way…

Send in the clones!

RARITY NOT BRINGING A TON OF SUITCASES!? ONE OF THE CLONES ALREADY REPLACED HER!!

Starlight: Home has books! Tea! Fewer bugs! A roof?

Wow, place pre-friendship Twilight in her place and it would fit her perfectly!

So, they're camping in the middle of the Everfree Forest? By this point I think it's safe to say that returning the Elements to the tree has completely pacified the forest as a whole.

Aaaaand the clones are basically the Discorded mane six…. why am I not more surprised?

To be fair, striking them down in the middle of the school, in the middle of Ponyville wouldn't have been the smartest move EvilTwi. Especially since she was outnumbered.

Then again, I love how much of a smart-ass EvilTwi is!

Uh, Pinkie? Rolling around in rose bushes isn't exactly the best idea… SERIOUSLY, THOSE THINGS HAVE THORNS. HOW ARE YOU NOT IN PAIN!?

Love how Chrysalis has that brief “I'm watching you” look before she agrees with EvilTwi. She knows something's up….

The problem with having an evil team; someone's always gonna scheme...

EvilTwi: "EvilPie, are you pondering what I’m pondering?"

EvilPie: "I think so, EvilTwi, but burlap sacks really me chafe..."

The idea of Starlight being scared of AJ when she’s in “camp mode” if both entertaining and unnerving...

I’d make a Gollum joke, but let's be honest, you've already made one in your head.

I don't know what's more amusing about EvilJack, the over the top lies that she keeps telling, or the fact that she seems to believe them herself.

EvilShy: “I hope you all freeze this winter!”

…….I literally have nothing for that. That was just terrifying to witness.

Again, the Gollum joke is overused...

Seriously, how is nobody noticing that EvilJack’s cutie mark is green?

EvilDash: The Elements of Apathy, AKA The Element of Not Giving A Fuck.

Yeah, that’s the face of someone who’s thinking of about 110 ways to murder the pony next to her….

Oh great, the usual group misunderstanding trope…

Chrysalis, where have you been this entire time?

Good to know that RD and AJ at least are somewhat suspicious...

I already imagine Chrysalis regretting not putting them on leashes… also, EvilDash, when did you get here?

(Sigh)... damnit Twi, stop melting my heart like this!!

Looks like Chrysalis is at her Breaking Point…

DEAR GOD THAT WAS MESSED UP!!

So wait? They just die and the mane six never find out about Chrysalis or their clones!?

That's… disappointing…

As someone who is a sucker for the evil counterpart concept, I really wanted to see an episode like this for some time now. Sadly Our Heroes never fight their evil counterparts or are you going to wear of their existence. Not to mention the fact that the Clones die at the end of the episode, which is really disappointing considering the fact that they would have made interesting recurring antagonists…

However not everything about it was bad, the evil counterparts interactions were actually pretty amusing at certain points. Especially with how they drove Chrysalis herself and nuts throughout the episode...

This episode had potential, but sadly it didn't capitalize on it.

I give this episode 5 out of 10.

Also, I set up a group for the Mean Six:

https://www.fimfiction.net/group/200887/the-mean-six-elements-of-disharmony

4879383
agreed. i said it earlier but the mean six were so expressive. also they did a good job playing both rolls of mean and mane.
