This quickly became one of my favorite episodes of the series.

I think this might be the most fun Andrea Libeman has had voicing Fluttershy. And it's tied to an actually solid episode, which is doubly great! :yay:

Anything else I can say about this one, I already said on my blog, so I'll keep this brief. I'm usually not one for Freaky Friday shenanigans (I don't know; something about that particular trope rubs me the wrong way), but my word, this episode pulled it off expertly. Again, I think it all boils down to Andrea Libeman's enthusiasm. Her voicing of Angel was just a delight.

Going into this episode, Angel Bunny was never one of my favorite characters given his bratty, self-absorbed nature. True, some episodes tried to prove he 'does' care for Fluttershy and he does look out for her, but there are some moments in the show that truly ruined it for me (That one 'Putting Your Hoof Down' episode made my views of Angel quite clear). Then comes this episode which to me is like 'Freaky Friday' in under 22 minutes, a story where the bond between Fluttershy and Angel is strained while an outside source attempts to mend their bond by helping them see their struggles through each other's eyes. I'll admit the bits where they are in each other's bodies are funny, especially the whole 'I Want To Marry Discord' line that came out of nowhere (For me, I thought Angel only said that because Fluttershy was spending more time with Discord than himself). While it seemed this episode was to change Angel Bunny's perspective on how hard Fluttershy has it and that he can always talk to other creatures, it was also a means for Fluttershy to understand Angel.

We often wondered how the stress of running both a school, eventually ruling Equestria, and all the while running their own jobs would have an effect on some ponies and Fluttershy is a prime example of all the time she puts in but never enough for her own things. True Fluttershy has the gift to speak the languages of all creatures, hence why Angel Bunny feels she's the only pony he can talk to, yet Fluttershy was always just assuming Angel just wants everything to be on him like a cat who wants their owner to spend more time with them than their families. But the moment Fluttershy was in Angel's body and tried to fix a seemingly mistake by Zecora's part, she couldn't communicate with some of her friends due to not being able to talk, danger loomed around every corner, and she nearly passed out from exhaustion due to how strenuous Angel's life must be knowing it's a constant race for survival. In the end when all seemed lost, when Angel unintentionally ruined Fluttershy's sanctuary and Fluttershy was on the verge of not waking up, both realized how hard both have it and must make amends to have a better friendship. I wouldn't say this episode was 'perfect' by any means, but for me it has it's own charm, some moments were fun to watch, and in some ways this episode was something Fluttershy needed as much as Angel did.

Although, if she ever heard Angel say through herself about 'marrying Discord' I among many would assume she'd freak out.

I really feel like Fluttershy got a raw deal from the switch. Even if we've never seen his early life, I'm pretty sure Angel never had to go through the Everfree alone. Not to mention almost getting her livelihood and reputation ruined (all of which Angel was basically shrugging off until he saw the state she was in), and for what? To show us that Angel hasn't really changed much?

I do like this episode, it was constantly fun, Zecora is always a good thing and Sandra is the most precious beast that Flutters has ever cared for. I just think it was too unfair on her to be properly balanced. 12th of 18 at this point, but still above the bar for breaking the good episode streak.

OMG! This was hilarious! I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard during an episode!

This is one of my favourite episodes of Season 9!

This was a really fun episode, mostly due to the antics caused by Angel while he was in Fluttershy's body. That bunny was never my favorite character, but it was nice to see both him and Fluttershy gain a new appreciation for how difficult each others' lives are.

A couple of things about this episode.

The title, "She Talks to Angel" is a play on the song "She Talks to Angels" by the Black Crowes.

This song.

It's about freaking heroin addiction. The episode itself involves Angel and Fluttershy taking a questionable potion that's clearly not FDA approved. It causes them to... switch bodies? Or maybe it's a really weird drug trip?

I'm going with that second one.

"I talk to animals, I wanna marry Discord..."

Yeah, I give this episode a 10/10. It was hilarious, and I loved it. Probably my favorite of the season, and in my Top Ten favorites of the whole series.

In this episode, Angel Bunny gains the ability to speak, and uses it to be a dick.

I'm guessing that biology works differently in Equestria because there's no way that putting all those carnivores on a vegetarian diet should have worked, and there's no way that a licensed veterinarian would have been okay with it. Just saying.

Hmmm, Fluttercord might be canon, but I don't really care either way.

Also, Angel in Fluttershy's body reminds me of my sister trying to weasel out of doing the dishes.

It's not like carnivores in our world choose to be carnivores, after all. Some of them literally cannot digest plants. Trying to go Vegan would kill them.

5118405 5118393 In her defence, she only said not to eat meat "at the sanctuary". They can do their meat hunting in the wild, but Fluttershy wants the sanctuary to be neutral territory.

Also,I love how Angelshy had a far more pronounced Canadian accent. It was unexpected but hilarious!

The question now is "How long did those animals need to stay at the sanctuary for?". :applejackunsure:

You know, part of me was expecting Fluttershy to use The Stare on that eagle, then ride back to the Sanctuary to save the day. Even if that didn't happen, the body swap episode was still cute. I mean, getting to see Angel's thoughts and opinions vocalized was amazing no matter which way you slice it, I'd say.

It kinda raises questions about animal sapience in this world.

Fluttershy understands them, but it's like Dr. Dolittle apparently. Fluttershy is the special one for being able to interpret their language. It's not that the animals are magical, it's that one pony understands them as well as they could possibly be understood.

Zecora almost got Fluttershy killed. :pinkiegasp:

RIP non-fluttercord shippers

Eh, what's a little life endangerment among friends?

🎵 Angel Bunny is tra-a-ash! 🎵

They're vegan...

Those are words a person who works with animals said.

To a snake.

... This is the mentality that made giving Megaspells to zebra's a thing.

Oh hey, I understood that reference. But you know what they always say: You gotta share...
You gotta C.A.R.E.

honestly this was a missed opportunity, imagine angel interacting with discord or the mane six in fluttershy body it could have been great, instead we got nothing, no one interacting with angel who really knew fluttershy closely

also body-swapping is canon now oh celestia the fanfics that pop up now

Or the title could be a take on the third line of Elvis’s “Devil in Disguise”.
“Talk like an angel.”

That song’s lyrics make perfect sense given the story’s plot.

It was just a terrible idea that made Fluttershy look horribly dumb, and this close to the end too. A pity.

Besides that, it was an OK episode - but Discord would have made a better catalyst than Zecora. I mean, he and Flutters haven't shared an episode since Season 7.

I liked this episode, but I hate how they had to enable the shippers with having Fluttershy/Angle Bunny say for her to marry Discord as a throw away gag and nod to those fucking degenerates. It's bad enough that we have these fucking bastards doing what they do to this kids show, we don't need the show creators themselves to be encouraging and enabling them by referencing whatever bullshit ship they come up with, and that's especially true to the shippers that are also the cloppers.

Watch what you say. Not every shipper is what you describe them as. And using such language on a website that children could easily find makes you a bit of a hypocrite.

Oh, a Fluttershy episode with Angel bunny. O3O

It would be totally awesome if it was a fire breathing Hilitai. Because Hilitai are so freaking awesome. Heck even my old middle school had one as a mascot! ^3^

I keep thinking about Saint Seiya each time someone says Sanctuary.

Yes! Angel can talk! And it's so freaking hilarious! XD

“I wanna marry Discord.” Watch out for ILoveKimPossibleAlot. O3O

Angel deserves to get snuzzled to death by a pack of ferocious puppies. That fuzzy carrot munching little motherfluffer deserves every single snuzzle. ^3^

It looks like Angel has finally learned his lesson. XD

I want a fire breathing Hilitai! O3O

This episode was great. Minus the body swapping. I can already imagine the fanfics rolling in…

It's worth noting that the animals don't seem to be able to understand one another, either, given that Fluttershy needs to translate between them -- first when she relayed their various statements to each other at the meeting, and then when she translated for Angel at the end.

The carnivores all going meat-free did bug me, I've gotta say. On that note, one thing I just plain find puzzling is Antoine's snake treats explicitly being vegan, rather than just plain vegetarian -- we know that ponies have no objections to eating eggs and drinking milk, for instance, and I would have assumed that using non-meat animal products would have been an obvious way of keeping the carnivores fed.

Episode was fun... Though: The Vegan animals thing was clear and obvious projection from writers who do not in fact understand how animal diets work, and should be kept as far away from animals as physically possible. Its presence in the episode will be strictly ignored.

Also, Zecora earned a Dope Slap for what she did to the two, especially towards the end, obviously knowing that the bunny was Fluttershy and letting her go BACK through the forest and it's carnivorous perils.

Andrea was awesome in this episode.

Kids can and probably are looking at shit online that they shouldn't be looking at in the first place, such as porn or other shit that ain't for them at all, and that's shit far worse then me swearing on some website. Now yes, some shippers are not as terrible as others and in fact I've enjoyed reading fanficion on this site that shipped two characters together as it was done in a mature, adult, respectable way that wasn't in anyway as disgusting when compared to some of the other stuff I've read on here or seen in fan comics or animation. I really just have a very big issue when the show itself brings that kind of shit into the show as references, and although some references like Fallout Equestria in Season 5 finale was awesome, stuff like ships aren't so awesome and all that does is enable the people who create clop and porn of those ships to do it more since it made its way into the show. This stuff needs to be kept separated as the show is ultimately a kids show that is meant for a younger audiences, and most of us adults need to respect that and for me it's important that the show remains to be a safe and good product for those younger audiences to watch, meaning most of what comes from this website should never be crossed over into the show.

It's been a while since we had a good episode. This one was pretty good. It had a few inconsequential details in it that are objectionable (vegan carnivores) but at the very least Fluttershy felt in-character, Angel felt very in-character even in Fluttershy's body, and making some amount of sense of their often abusive-seeming relationship was a good idea. This is the sort of episode that I wish they'd tried making a lot sooner, instead of always repeating the "Fluttershy is afraid of everything" story over and over.

Angel is a brat I and I love it!

I respect that and thank you for clarifying, but can we be sure it's just fan service? I don't think the crew can get on websites like this. But they do attend conventions and other things so we know they are aware, but I mean... people were going to write this stuff regardless of Angel's line or not. It might fuel shippers for a little while, but honestly, that stuff would exist regardless or not.

I think someone pointed this out, but the animals don't seem to understand each other. Fluttershy acts as a translator for them.

Welcome to the internet. Anyone can find porn!

It's very egalitarian in that way.

... This is the mentality that made giving Megaspells to zebra's a thing.

Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well.

What would make for a good story would be if Fluttershy in Angel's body got killed by that hawk and Angel ended up in Fluttershy's body permanently.

You assume the writers have no preferences of their own.

Excellent episode. Salamanders in Equestria? Time for a smoke detector.

I believe they called it a "fire gecko".

Andrea Libman was fantastic in the episode! I loved how she not only had to do the voice of Fluttershy, but she had to do the voice of Fluttershy if Angel was in control of the pony's body.

5118762 That vegan nonsense really did stick out as absurd. Snakes can't digest plant material. Cats can be poisoned by quite a few vegetables. Canines and bears are the ones most adaptable, but wolves are predominantly obligate carnivores who cannot survive solely on plant materials. This sort of thing takes a few minutes to research in Wikipedia in the 'carnivore' page. It hurt what was otherwise a decent enough episode, especially coming from Fluttershy who we've already seen giving fish to otters and so forth. She should know better.

I think a better way to make it work would have been to present some other pony trying to force the issue, and Fluttershy trying to make it work despite knowing it wouldn't... kind of a lesson that you don't have to take advice that you know to be wrong simply to make someone happy at the expense of many others. Buuuuut… that would run contrary to so many agendas. :raritywink:

Yeah, I'm sticking with my head canon: Fluttershy brings logs of firewood to a unicorn named Philosopher Stone, whose Cutie Mark is a lump of coal turning into gold, and she turns the wood into meat. (Every Little Thing She Does clearly showed us that Twilight and Starlight can turn inanimate objects into living creatures so this is plausible)

Vulkan would feel right at home.

5119812 Discord. He can make meat. He'd also make sapient vegetables that scream for their lives, just to prove how ridiculous the whole thing was... kinda like that one Tiny Toons episode where the whole thing appeared to push vegetarianism... but at the very end it featured carrots screaming in horror and begging, "Please don't eat us!"

Quite the coy subversion there. I was quite pleased with it, as even back in my youth I was a mega-troll... even before the Internet! :pinkiegasp:
