Take a very good look at the first name for Doctor Vahlen. :pinkiehappy:

Now, you could quite justifiably argue that the Firaxis chose that name because it's the same first name as the voice actor... bit I like to think it's me and my stories having an effect on canon itself. :D

Nice, hopefully I can get at it myself soon enough

bad ass. but theres gotta be some Easter egg in the game about ponies.

I'm afraid i don't understand

In XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Dr Vahlen has no first name. in Arad's story, he said her name was Moira. Now Firaxis are saying her name is Moira.

Coincidence? Possibly, but it's pretty cool either way

Even if you're not affecting the canon, at the very least it shows you have similar thought processes and therefore are probably on par with any of their writers. :raritywink:

Me gusta.

I bet Arad secretly works for Firaxis. :trixieshiftright:

:rainbowlaugh:

I actually thought that was her official name because both you and Eakin used it.

Wow.... thats actually kinda cool

3736096

I had used it, then Eakin used it, then a bunch of other people used it. And now we're here. :D

Everything is ponies now. Everything.

So... there might be a random non-hostile alien that 'ports in then stands around dumbly staring at the bloodshed in horror.

Huzzah...
though I think we might be overlooking a very critical possibility....
ARAD IS PSYCHIC OwO

3736119
isn't that a good thing
people might finally stop anoying us with the fact that we are bronies

3736158 To be fair if it's in one of the new terror missions then poor Twi never stood a chance. She was killed in the darkness without you ever seeing her.

If we see another, there can be no doubt. One could be a coincidence. Two is pushing it.

Wouldn't that be nice?

i though moira WAS her canon name. ....someone else already said that. weird

Reading those history notes in the commanders quarters started off entertaining. Bradford gets his first name and history revealed, XCOM history shows the cannon failure scenario in EU/EW wasn't even possible in this new timeline.

And then, Moira Vahlen. I did several double takes. Then I remembered this interview with Jake Solomon.

Question #3 : What app(s) can you not live without?

JS : My Little Pony Friendship is Magic (For my daughters and long car rides. I swear.)

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the Avatar project is the Ethereals attempting to create their own alicorn Twilight bodies.

I know that 98% of people on this forum may not get it, but I can't resist :trollestia:

Translation: The coincidence? I don't think so!

Need to pick up XCOM2 when I'm in the city tonight.

TIME TO KICK THE NEOSECTOID!!!

He should pay a visit to the psionics lab.

After seeing the opening mission I've been imagining a Stardust version of Xcom 2, where they rescue Twilight from that alien base and not the commander.

First Fallout IV, now (possibly) X-COM...
Somewhere, somewhen, we'll encounter an operative watching paint dry. :pinkiecrazy:

When things like that happen, I find it both creepy and awesome

Id say, this is WUNDERBAR!!!

I would enjoy seeing what they would make as a pony easter egg in xcom (would be pretty funny if you ask me)

Duuuuuuuude!

3736365 Ummmm I've actually had the same idea.

Wanna discuss it?

3736893 I just think it would be an awesome AU of Stardust. Where perhaps at the end of Stardust when Twilight was being overpowered by the Ethereal, Zhang failed to kill it, thus Twilight was captured and XCOM HQ destroyed with only a few (Bradford for instance) escaping.

Later, as in XCOM 2 when Bradford receives Intel on the commander, here they find Twilight's location instead, and want to retrieve her since her expertise in the field of magic could be a great boon to the new XCOM resistance.

I should probably mention that in Stardust canon, Bradford IS the commander. Still, it's an interesting idea.

3737025 I know in Stardust Bardford is the commander, that's why I think it works, there is no commander to find in his place is Twilight

Man i really hope they make a Console port.

Kinda unrelated to the post, but since you're such a seasoned Xcom player, I wanted to ask: what's your opinion on the timed missions?

I heard that almost everything was timed now, and that it was very annoying. I haven't played as much Xcom 1 as I might have wanted, so I didn't play that much on higher difficulties, but even so whenever the odds weren't tremendously in my favour I would move slowly, keep in formation, overwatch frequently especially with my fastest-moving units, and generally take my time. From what I know, even higher difficulties - especially with Long War and whatnot - would be even more like that.

So, being an experienced player, would you say the timing mechanism hampers your ability to play tactically and carefully, or does it instead fit in well by simply adding another layer of challenge?

I actually like some of the timed missions... but the time limits are balls. I downloaded a small mod to increase the time limits but not remove them.

This is a sign, but now it´s up to us to do our part!

Step 1:fire up the supplied game editor
Step 2:create a mini-horse models
Step 3:????????????????
Step 4:fan made "Mente Materia" DLC

Xcom 2 is a really amazing game, but Im really sad they learned so little from Long War. There are a lot of great items to take with you on missions, but you're restricted to one item slot and grenades are very nearly required for destroying enemy cover. So the only troops I ever use anything but standard grenades on are my snipers (too far out of range to use grenades) and my specialists (who use medkits).
As much as I would love to bring scanners with me to flush out disguised aliens, or flash bangs/smokes for their utility, grenades are the only efficient way of dealing with enemies in high cover.
And that sucks.

Interestingly, there is another small piece of evidence that might support it. One of the snippets you can hear when leaving the lab in XCOM 2 is Dr. Tygan discussing his predecessor. He comments about how she was vicious with her autopsies, using the phrase "eager to get her hands dirty".

This could be inspired by your characterization, Arad.

Who knows, we might have some Dev's watching us right now...
3737685

This is amazing. I'm geeking out about it, but probably not as much as you. I am a little jealous, but i've had my own extra-fanfic achievements so i won't complain. Still, this is quite a catch. Someone should put on the xcom 2 wiki that the names and bio may have come from your fanfic. Of course, that may lead to legal issues, but hell it would be funny to see people's reactions to it.

3737690 Just one item slot? I upgraded my standard armour for my troops, and they're now able to carry two items with them alongside the added armour and health.

But Bradford's first name is John :(

3736181

Hey, I never said it wasn't :pinkiehappy:

3738334
Oh sure, once you get that far, Long Wars had 2 items from the start.
My first run died the first time a ufo hunted me down :/
The escape mission went great, up until the muton/mech combo.
Muton plasma grenade shredded most of my best troops, and left them without cover.
Then the mech fired his grenade launcher. Kept going for a couple turns after that, but I lost most of my squad so it was pretty much unwinnable.
