Interesting... Mind control? Time Travel? Whatever he's done, it must have been pretty impressive for the rest of the Mane Six to suddenly develop such a newfound love for him.
>work all night >sleep 2 hours >drive friend home from airport 50 miles >about to go to sleep >see this post while pooping >excitedly finish shitting and head downstairs to turn tv to channel 100 >eager to actually watch an episode as it airs on the tv >it's 8;30; successfully navigate to discovery kids >black screen >bug mom >she says we don't get premium channels anymore >Open the door. get on the floor. everypony walk the dinosaur
Hmm... Okay, that was probably the weakest episode of this season. Basically, you could have shortened it to about five to ten minutes and have told the same story with the same outcome. It was almost entirely padding. Discord was under-used; it was clear that the script team were hoping having John deLancie and Tara Strong chewing the metaphorical scenery would carry the episode but it didn't work out for me.
All eight primary characters were practically 'phoning it in; most of the 'jokes' didn't work. I'm sorry but it was a very, very poor effort indeed. Even the animators pop culture jokes (mostly Discord and Pinkie's fourth wall-breaking costume changes) just about got me to snort.
The only two parts of this that could possibly make watching it worthwhile were the fact that Discord hints that he still has a wicked (not evil, wicked) side that delights in complex pranks and also voice of sanity!Spike. The latter, making Spike right and Twilight wrong (and him not being humiliated at the end too) is such a rare character event that it is worth noting.
A definite 'Miss' for me and probably only the second this season after the ho-hum experience for me that was 'Made in Manehattan'. It was much worse an experience than that, though.
I did like the theory someone mentioned in the chat of the stream I was watching that the whole "can't reproduce events exactly" scene in the middle was a set up for the season finale.
Yeah, I wasn't all too hooked on this one. It felt kind of samey all the way through, like it didn't quite know where it wanted to go with anything and just left it at square one. Most of the gags fell flat too, imo.
But just so I'm not being all negative, I will say that I really liked that little scene with Zecora. We don't get to see her that often, it's always nice when we do. And honestly, the joke about her keeping the cauldron bubbling just for show made me chuckle.
It would be a shame and cause for dread If she lost her "Mystic Shaman" street cred.
I love how this lesson (Being jelous because of friends doing other things without you) went hand in hand with (You might like something if you try it but you might not) kind of blended together. And more and more, I wonder if the movie or the sixth season will revolve around a "Breaking of the fellowship" type of story line where they go their seperate ways for a bit. only to come back together at the end to save the world with the lesson that just because you go away for a bit, and you might get distant, you will always be friends.
Not my favorite episode. Discord was pretty much just being a dick because he could. To an extent, I think Twilight was right to be suspicious of the whole situation, though once it became clear no one was under a spell she should've let it go of course.
It seemed a bit rushed to me. There really could have been two episodes that intertwined. I feel that instead of a Christmas episode before a Halloween one that we could have had an episode where Discord decided to join the Mane 5 where he gets to know the other 4 girls. What I also did not like is that Discord just isolated Twilight like that. I thought it was really mean.
What I thought was fresh was that we have never seen Twilight get jealous.
I did enjoy the ending when the joke was on Discord to the point that it humiliated him to nearly break down and cry. I also loved the hug he gave them in the end.
Pinkie McFly? Loved the reference though.
I will have to watch the episode again to really get it.
3527501 Yeah he was not very strong in this episode until the end when the mane six turned the joke tables on him. I think they could have written him better. He was pretty funny though.
The idea of Discord being more part of the group is okay, but the whole you had to be there thing hit a little too close to home for me...
I found myself re-living too many bad memories that I had to pretty much skip through most of the episode when I realized what the prevailing theme was.
Nothing is wrong with Twilights friends having a good time without her...what is messed up about it is every one of her close friends (with the exception of Spike) kept bringing it up, and to make matters worse all this fun was had with someone that Twilight was not truly friends with yet.
To put this into perspective imagine you and your friends were picked on by a bully, but over the course of time you and your friends made up with the bully...your not truly friends with the bully yet, but you can hang out together and still have a good time...then you go on vacation for a few days, and come back to every one of your friends talking about all the awesome stuff that they did with the former bully...even taking the bully places and doing things they never did with you...all anyone can talk about is all the fun they had while you were gone, and all the memories made without you...over the course of a single weekend the entire dynamic of you and your group of friends seems to have changed.
Trust me it is a painful experience that does not always end happily.
I get what the message behind this was, but I feel that there were better ways of getting the message across.
3527523 Like what? Name for me one thing that has no explanation. Not something that we don't understand, something that legitimately has no explanation for its existence. Name one.
ARE YOU READY FOR THE DIVINE GOD OF CHAOS TO BLESS YOU WITH A CHOCOLATE MILK SHOWER?
Time for the awesomenes to begin! Also: Why don't we have Discord Emoticons?
The only better episode would be a double season closer/opener or a changeling episode. Or both.
Interesting...
Mind control?
Time Travel?
Whatever he's done, it must have been pretty impressive for the rest of the Mane Six to suddenly develop such a newfound love for him.
Finally some Discord again.

Not quite...
BACK TO THE FUTURE!
3527441 That's a bummer!
The references are strong in this one.

They went there
Orange rain
Some stay dry and others feel the pain
"You had to be there!"
--This is what we'll say to our children when they find out we were bronies.
Kinda meh of an ep.
Twilight: "It's still not funny!"
Summarizes the whole episode, really.
Oh well.
This is bait:

This might be one of my favorite episodes of the season, if not, THE SERIES
3527472
3527469
Agreed. Not a fan of this one.
I was not expecting that. Mind blown!
Eh, decent. Not an all time favorite, probably just ruined it for me with the 'not everything can be explained' thing.
Pinkie as Marty Mc Fly BEST REFERENCE EVER
Coming next week: The Hoofields and McColts!
If they include a shootout in this I'm going to go nuts.

I for one welcome our Smooziness
The humor was thin on the ground and the emotions, while genuine, felt underplayed. Pure, refined meh.

It was a good episode until the end, when Discord said fanfic Discord shit and the whole thing fell apart.

BenRG's Rating: 2/10
Can't say this one did much for me.
I did like the theory someone mentioned in the chat of the stream I was watching that the whole "can't reproduce events exactly" scene in the middle was a set up for the season finale.

Twilight's comment about how fiddling with time travel is extremely dangerous was definitely foreshadowing.
3527483 But it's true; not everything can be explained.
Not my favorite episode. Discord was pretty much just being a dick because he could. To an extent, I think Twilight was right to be suspicious of the whole situation, though once it became clear no one was under a spell she should've let it go of course.
Can someone send me a Youtube or Dailymotion link?
Apparently, USTREAM hates every brony that can't be arsed to pay $3.99... (Which is even more infuriating because I live in England.)
I enjoyed the episode, it was bitter-sweet and Discord acting semi devious was a treat.
It seemed a bit rushed to me. There really could have been two episodes that intertwined. I feel that instead of a Christmas episode before a Halloween one that we could have had an episode where Discord decided to join the Mane 5 where he gets to know the other 4 girls.
