Recent archaeological expeditions to far-flung corners of the Old Kingdoms have revealed a wealth of pre-Celestian artefacts, dating as far back as the Hearthfire Wars. These artefacts shed a light on an era we of contemporary Equestria really know very little about, and the stories they share range from the highest court intrigues to the humblest backwater folktales.

This account, found engraved in the wall of an old Pegasi garrison known as the Eastmarch, relates the final night of a condemned mare, in one of the last wars of the pre-Celestian era. It has been translated for the benefit of the modern reader.

Pre-read by the inimitable Admiral Biscuit.
And now with a reading from resident crooner Illya Leonov.

Fifteen hundred-word(ish) shorts that explore the cast and their interactions in various ways, and says something a little different about each. Somewhat experimental, obviously, but YMMV on whether the format works or not.

Bonus points with possible prizes if anyone guesses them all. :raritywink: Oh, and beware of unmarked spoilers in the comments if you want an unsullied reading experience.

With many thanks to my pre-readers, Present Perfect and DarkRiver125.

One warm summer evening, Twilight finds herself pondering something of a philosophical dilemma. Joined by Applejack and Spike, she tries to give it proper voice, and finds herself debating a question as old as ponykind.

Written in pursuit of that question, not an answer.

Betrayed, the blade still firmly lodged in her back, the Princess of Friendship lies on the floor of her Castle in what she expects to be her last moments. What better time, then, for a little heart-to-heart?

In a tavern on the edge of Old Equestria, a wizened pony cleric regales stallion, mare, and foal with the tale of his greatest adventure: a grand epic set in a faraway land, where a much younger pony travelled in the company of three stalwart adventurers along a dangerous road.

Did they slay the dragon? Rescue fair maidens? Walk away with a mountain of treasure? Given that the smartest of the lot was the half-deranged Kobold who thought he was the dragon . . .

Well, just let an old nag spin his tale.

[Human tag included for exactly one character, so I don't want to hear any complaints.]

Based on an ongoing game of D&D/Ponyfinder I'm GMing, written up for the hell of it, and mostly because this lot are making some of the most hilariously misguided decisions a group this experienced possibly could.

Also, they owe me a pint if this actually passes moderation. Ed: SOMEONE'S BUYING AND IT'S NOT ME.

Twilight Sparkle tries to convince one of her lodgers to do something he'd rather not.

Started life as a scene for something completely different, took up residence in my brain a few days ago, and just wouldn't go away till I finished writing it down.

Pre-read through the efforts of my dear friend WolfieSama01, who wishes it to be known that she tried to dissuade me.
