Is there going to be a sequel?

Totally expected Diamond Tiara in here.

Diamonds are hard but brittle,

Um, no. Assuming there are no impurities, a diamond is just one big carbon molecule, so it's not very brittle at all.

it doesn't take much to break them.

Actually, it does. Geologists have a scale for rating the hardness of minerals that runs from 1 to 10, and diamonds have a rating of 10.

I appreciate a good metaphor as much as the next guy, but they just don't land when a writer doesn't do their homework.

Hardness is not toughness.

Hardness is the ability to scratch something.

Diamonds are somewhat tough, yes, but they aren't the strongest things out there.

... You can take a hammer to a diamond and shatter it. That's toughness. It doesn't have that. They are quite brittle.

You can't take a steel nail and mar the surface of one. That's hardness. It has that. Only a diamond can scratch a diamond. (Of the natural minerals!)

Two different things. Contrary to popular belief, diamonds aren't actually unbreakable. Don't let pop culture educate you. That's exactly what I used to think about diamonds until I learned otherwise.
