The Queen of Changelings has had enough. She was defeated one time too many; this time, she will win for sure. Her plan is, as always, perfect. She will attack Luna when she is at her weakest, in the middle of the night, when the Princess is lost in the dream world. Helpless and defenseless, an easy prey.
The idea that perhaps attacking Princess of the Night at the peak of her power was a very bad idea wasn't something Chrysalis ever considered.
At least not until the nightmare started.

Now of course Bugqueen needs to go after Celestia and Twilight. Because it's not fair to leave them out of the fun. I'm assuming this is pre-season 5 since Luna is still being stupid about the Tantabus.
Hard to know for sure, since the prequel narrowed it down to post-season 3 premier at least.

You nailed the timeline for this story, congratulations. And yes, Luna still has some time before she finally resolves her issues with Tantabus here, although by the way it is trying to slip away you can probably guess it's closer to S5 then S3.
And when it comes to Chrysalis and her next targets... she considers Celestia to be a little bit too big of a danger for now, and she will try to look for, how to say it, alternate ways to increase her power. A new, non-pony approach to finding powerful rulers to easily subdue and drain.
Which will probably go about as well as you can expect.
