What's the rationale behind the coffee thing?

Coffee is used to stay awake through the morning to make it to the rest of the day from early grogginess. Since this story and others play around with the idea of radicalized individuals, it's just a small thing to outline how far some will go to enforce or justify their radical notions—religiously so, for the Thestrals. So while a lot of equestrians rely on coffee to keep them up in the morning, Nótt believes it is just a way for the Solar Imperium's citizenry to reject the night by forcing themselves to stay awake, something that one "would not have to do if it were not natural to bask in the moon's glory rather than the cruel sun". It is not a fundamental doctrine or belief among Thestrals that coffee is evil by any means, but Nótt herself finds it's bitter taste a way to reinforce this idea she has conjured, though uses it anyway like a "necessary drug" for her "state-mandated work".
