Rat-Attack

“I don’t know if I can do this Adam.” Soarin muttered.

Adam said back to him, “You can do this, I know you can.”

“I don’t know man, this might be one of the toughest challenges I’ve ever faced.” Soarin wasn’t muttering anymore, he was almost panicking.

Before he could flip out, Adam explained what he do need to do to make it through this, “Remember Soarin; all you have to do is one thing....”

He and Soarin were standing at the alter of Canterlot Church, the vicar was there and the place was dressed up for Rainbow Dash and Soarin’s wedding. “Say ‘I do’.” Adam said to the groom. All of the Rainbooms attended the ceremony; but, just the Rainbooms. The bride and groom decided not to have a large wedding, just a short and low key ceremony with their closet friends.

Sunset Shimmer, Twilight and Applejack were standing next to the alter as the bridesmaid, Rarity, Fluttershy and Pinkie were sitting in the rows, watching the service; and of course, Adam was standing beside Soarin as his best-man.

Without warning, the music started playing and everyone stood up to welcome the bride into the room; as the music took over the room, Rainbow Dash walked down the isle towards her husband-to-be. She was dressed in the beautiful gown Rarity had made for her; and despite her protests, she held and bouquet of flowers.

Once she reached the alter, the vicar began his words, “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to unite Rainbow Dash and Soarin, in marriage. Isn’t it lovely, to see these two, surrounded by friends, and choosing to spend the rest of their lives together.” He turned to the couple and asked, “I believe you two have prepared vows for each other?”

Rainbow Dash pulled a small piece of paper from her pocket, she then spoke her vows, “Soarin, since the day we met on that boat, I’ve not met anyone as cool as you. And I know this might sound cheesy, but I can’t wait for us to build a life together; I love you and hope I can be a good wife to you.”

Pinkie leaned against Rarity’s shoulder, a tear rolled down her cheek; what she just heard was beautiful.

Now it was Soarin’s turn, “Rainbow Dash, what can I say that you haven’t already said; you are the most awesome girl I know and you show me every day just how amazing you can be. Like you said, our life together has only just begun and I hope I can make you happy.”

“If that’ all from you two, we’ll move onto the ‘I do’s’.” The vicar explained, he then turned to Rainbow and asked, “Rainbow Dash, do you take Soarin to be your lawfully wedded husband?’

The rainbow haired girl replied, “I do.”

“And Soarin, do you take Rainbow Dash to be your lawfully wedded wife?”

Soarin looked his love in the eyes and said, “I do.”

Adam whispered under his breath, “Nailed it, buddy.” He joked, referring to their earlier conversation.

With that said, the vicar concluded the service by saying, “Then by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife; you may kiss the bride.” Rainbow Dash shoved her flowers into the vicar’s hands and pulled Soarin into a deep kiss.

The group of friends all cheered at this, another married couple in their little family. With the wedding service over, the vicar shook hands with Soarin before leaving the room; this left the gang to talk freely.

Rainbow quickly wanted to talk to her friends before they moved this party to Sugar Cube Corner for the reception; she said to them, “So guys, are you going to be okay without me and Soarin for a while?”

Twilight replied with, “Of course.” She then followed that up with, “Don’t get me wrong, we’ll miss you guys terribly, but you’re just going on your honeymoon.”

“Yeah, you guys will be back in two weeks.” Applejack stated.

Soarin joined the conversation and said, “It’s just, we don’t want to be away and something big happen; we want to be here to help out.”

That’s when Fluttershy explained to them, “Don’t worry, everything will be fine. You two just go and enjoy yourselves.” With that said, everyone was calm, the gang made their way to the exit and were ready to celebrate tis union the right way; with a party.

Before they got outside, Pinkie Pie said to them, “After all, we’re superheroes; what could happen?”

A few days after the wedding, Adam was in his home, adjusting the where the TV was on the wall; on the screen, the news was on, it was a report about Spiderman.

“I here at the sight of what seemed like a fight for survival; about a dozen suspects were apprehended by the police here on the this rooftop.” The field reporter was standing on the roof of the building where Spiderman and his friends were fighting the thugs working for Storm King. The reporter walked over to an officer who was still investigating the crime-scene. “Officer Bars, do we know how the fight came to be here.”

The cop replied, “Were not positive, but Spiderman had attacked the ones responsible for the trespassing on this privately owned property; but their ring leader was seen flying his getaway chopper. Those so-called super-people chased him away before the security cameras could get a look at him; this makes it impossible to ID the suspect.”

Suddenly, the sound of falling soda cans came from behind Adam; h turned around and saw his brother-in-law waking up on his couch. Zephyr Breeze got up, wearing only pyjama bottoms and a robe; he sat up on the couch and looked towards Adam.

“You know, my man; the TV might be easier to move if you unplugged it.” Zephyr explained.

But Adam replied, “Except for, I’m watching.”

Zephyr Breeze popped open another can of apple-cider and said, “Spiderman’s a crook, there’s no news there.”

The spider-hero was about to complain about how there was another person he knew that hated Spiderman, but at this point, he was used to it. Adam then turned off the screen but kept moving the box-set.

“Zephyr, I get that you think Spiderman’s a criminal.”

“On account of, he is.”

Adam turned to Zephyr and explained, “Not that I have a horse in this race, but if he wants to use his powers to help people, you have to respect him for that.”

“You mean he’s like a Robin Hood, men in tights thing?” Zephyr replied.

Adam pretended to chuckle before saying, “I don’t think he wears tights.”

Fluttershy then walked into the room, stood behind the couch and joined the conversation, “Who doesn’t wear tights and why would you know?” Fluttershy asked them.

Adam replied, “Spiderman.”

Zephyr Breeze then said, “Your husband thinks he’s some kind of Robin Hood-good guy.” He then put down his drink and stated, “Those costume nuts are all a menace if you ask me.”

Fluttershy responded to her brother’s words by saying, “If Spiderman is out there looking out for his community, he’s gets my vote; agree or disagree.”

After that was said, Zephyr got up and walked towards the door; before opening it, he said, “Don’t you watch the news sis, people who run around the city in masks are criminals; they should be put away with all the other lunatics.”

Before he could leave, Adam stopped him and asked, “Hey, where’re you going?”

“You said I couldn’t hold a job; well, I might have found something that’ll stick.” Zephyr replied. He left saying, leaving the married couple alone in the apartment.

Fluttershy then walked over to Adam, he was still adjusting the TV; when she was right behind him, he turned around and found them there. She backed him against the TV wanted to talk.

“You shouldn’t be so hard on Zephyr, he’s trying his best.” The pink haired girl stated.

Adam replied, “He’s trying to get fired all the time; he needs to learn to take responsibility for his life.”

“And you need to learn to help your family when and if they need help.” He then put her hand on the TV and slid it across the wall to the right spot, “There.”

After that, she walked away to the kitchen; Adam rested his head on the screen and sighed.

“Uh, I hope there isn’t as much paper work as last time, that really made my head hurt.” Zephyr Breeze explained. He was sitting on a lab table in the middle of a laboratory; his ‘new job’ was at Canterlogic, he was in the lab of one Stormy Skies best scientists, Professor Cross.

The scientist was mixing some chemicals together on the work bench across the room, he then turned to Zephyr and showed him the green liquid in the test tube he was holding.

“Today I get my first pay check, right?” Zephyr asked.

Cross replied with, “Actually, the ad said you be handsomely paid if your trial run was a success.”

Zephyr looked around the room and noticed something strange about this guys lab, he kept a lot of rats in display cases on the wall.

“Do you know why rats fascinate me?” Cross asked him. Zephyr simply shook his head. “People see them as pure vermin, but they are the worlds most powerful species. They can survive in toxic environments and are faster than most nocturnal animals.” Cross then poured the green chemical into a syringe.

“Whoa, you’re not going to stick me with that, are you?” Zephyr asked, panicking a little.

Cross pushed a button on the remote control he had, and the lab table bend into like a hospital gurney; Zephyr laid back in the seat. Cross then replied, “Of course I’m not going to inject you with this; that’s what the robotic arm is for.” He pushed another button and Zephyr’s wrists and ankles were locked down by cuffs; a strap even went around his forehead, to keep him still.

“Whoa, whoa, hold on; hold on, I didn’t sign up for no alien autopsy.” Zephyr cried.

However, Cross replied with “Actually you did, all that paper work, remember.” Cross then inserted the syringe into the robot arm and ready the experiment. After pushing another but on his remote, the robot arm injected Zephyr Breeze’s neck with the green liquid. Zephyr cried out in pain, until the syringe was taken out and he calmed down. “How do you feel?” the professor asked.

“Like I just got poked in the neck by a sharp needle.” Zephyr replied.

Now that he had been given the serum, Professor Cross walked over to his work bench and picked up a gas mask; he put it on and then picked up a small canister from the floor. He unscrewed the lid and watched as the green fumes rose out. He took the canister over to Zephyr, he could smell the contents of the can a mile away, and Zephyr thought it was horrible.

“How does this smell?” Cross asked him, his voice muffled by the mask.

“Awful, like last week’s garbage, time a million.” Zephyr replied.

The professor then asked, “Ad your still alive.” Zephyr then looked at him, confused; so Cross decided to explain, “What you just smell was toxic swamp gas; lethal to humans, but not to rats. The serum I gave you was concentrated rat DNA, you can now survive in habitats that would be deadly to us humans.”

Zephyr took a minute to process this, did this mean, he had a super power?

That night, Adam and Fluttershy were walking through town, they were going to meet up with the rest of the girls; minus the newly weds. Twilight, Sunset, Rarity, Applejack and Pinkie were sipping milkshakes and looking at the city from a highway side-walk above the other streets.

“Hi girls.” Fluttershy greeted her friends with.

Adam then asked, “So what kind of fun, fun, fun are we having tonight?”

However, the expression on all their faces changed from happy to sad; they had some news they needs to share with Adam and Fluttershy. Sunset took a piece of paper out of her jacket pocket and handed it to Fluttershy, the pinked haired girl read it and then gasped; she then handed the paper to Adam.

Sunset explained, “With expenses rising and the city always having to rebuild certain parts of the itself; costs have gone up. We can no longer afford to keep the HQ.” She looked down and sighed.

Applejack then said, “Twilight spoke to someone on the phone, they said we have a way out of this.” Adam and Fluttershy then turned to Twilight for the answer.

“If we move anything important out of the HQ and sell the building by the end of next month, we can keep whatever profit is made from the sale; it should be enough to find somewhere else to set up shop.” Twilight explained.

Pinkie Pie then said, “Somewhere we won’t need to rely on lots of power and money to sustain.”

Without warning, Adam phone rang; when he answered it, Zephyr was on the line, “Adam, can you come and pick me up; I’m out of cash and need someone to help me.”

Adam sighed and replied, “Yeah man, I’m coming.” With that said, Adam hanged up the call. He then turned back to his wife and friends, “I need to go get Zephyr; I think his latest job was a bust.”

“You want me to come with you?” Fluttershy asked him.

But her husband replied, “No, its okay.” He then turned to the rest of them, “Why don’t you guys head into town; I’ll go get Zephyr, take him back to the apartment and meet you guys there.” Twilight nodded her head, and the rest of the girls agreed. Adam kissed Fluttershy on her head before he ran off to an ally.

When no one was watching, he changed into Spiderman and jumped up the wall and began web-swinging down the road.

Zephyr Breeze was walking down the street, he had a splitting head ache; he walked past the national bank, where a guard was loading some bags of money into the back of an armoured van. When the guard saw Zephyr coming down the road, he chuckled a little.

“Looks like someone’s been working late tonight.” The guard joked.

When Zephyr passed the bank, the guard went back to work; he loaded the last bag and locked the truck. Before he could drive away with the money, he noticed someone across the road. A man on a motorcycle quickly revved the engine and sped towards the truck; when he reached the guard, he pointed the shotgun he was holding at the guard’s head, with his finger on the trigger.

“How about if you just take the truck.” The guard offered, he then moved away from the vehicle and was ready to run away. But the robber used the gun and bashed him on the back of the head, knocking him out.

Before the crook could take the van, Zephyr had walked back over to them and made his presence aware.

“You know, I hear that’s illegal.” Zephyr said, trying to turn down the situation.

However, the crook just replied, “Someone talking to you?”

Not wanting any trouble, Zephyr just kept on talking, “I was just offering my opinion on the matter; I also heard that vermin like you, often get wiped out.

After that was said, the robber bashed Zephyr Breeze in the stomach and aimed the weapon at him, “We’ll see who gets wiped out.”

Without warning, a web line was shot from the rooftop at the robber’s gun; he then shot it off and knew that this meant Spiderman was nearby. The robber got in the van and drove away; Spiderman, already on the scene, jumped down from the roof and began swinging after him.

The robber was driving as recklessly as possible, Spidey swung from building to building, trying to get him to stop; the crook would even point his gun out the window and fire at the wall-crawler. That was until Spiderman saw an opening and web-zipped to the roof of the truck; he then shot a web-line onto the roof and swung in through the passenger seat, kicking the robber out of the vehicle and into the street.

Luckily, Spiderman quickly shot a web-net and caught him before he hit the ground.

Adam then jumped in front of the truck and pushed it to a halt; it took all of Adam’s spider-strength, but the van stopped in it’s tracks. Once this was done, Spidey quickly swung away to change back into his normal clothes; so he could check on his brother-in-law.

A few moments later, the police had arrived; the robber was arrested and the officers asked Zephyr for a statement. Officer Bars asked, “So, which officer was the one who aided in this suspects capture.”

But Zephyr replied, “Didn’t you hear me; Spiderman was here.” He then looked in the police car and saw the crook, “As for him, he should put where the rest of the trash from this city goes.”

“That’s a bit harsh, don’t you think?” Zephyr turned around to see Adam.

“Adam, where the heck have you been?”

Adam quickly made his excuses and said, “I couldn’t get a cab, and I tried to call you but my phone died. Its a good thing Spiderman showed up when he did.”

Officer Bars heard that comment and said, “Did you happen to notice anything from this event.”

“What?” Adam replied. “No, it all happened so fast.”

“How do you know how fast it happened if you didn’t see anything?” The officer then stated. Adam was stuttering, he couldn’t think of anything to say. “Whatever, see you can jog your memory within the next twenty four hours; I want to talk to you down at the station.” Officer Bars then went to his car.

Before the police could drive away, Zephyr looked through car window; the crook looked back at him. Zephyr showed his teeth and hissed at him; the strangest thing was, his teeth looked more like fangs, causing the robber to gasp in fear.

The cops drove away, and Zephyr walked away as well; Adam didn’t know what to make of this, so he just followed Zephyr to the bus stop.

The next day, Adam and Fluttershy went to the HQ, the rest of the gang were already there. The married couple entered the control room and saw the girls had already started packing things away; cardboard boxes were all around the room.

Adam put his arm around Fluttershy’s shoulder, she stroked his hand and said, “I can’t believe this is happening.”

Sunset turned to them and replied, “I remember when we first bought this place.” She thought about that memory for a sec.

“Remember what we did to raise the money?” Pinkie asked the group. That’s when the Rainbooms all looked back on that day; before Adam and Fluttershy were married, before most of the group even got their powers.

The band was performing a song, and the guy who booked them said he would give the Rainbooms $5000 if the audience liked the act. The crowd loved it, and the girls were handsomely paid; that money combined with what each member already had, helped them buy this place, to make their superhero headquarters.

“Still, life goes on.” Twilight said. “Even without this place, we’ll still be superheroes and we’ll still be a team.”

Rarity then replied, “That’s the truth, Twilight.” Complimenting her friend’s statement.

Fluttershy looked around, most of the stuff was already packed away, but there was still a lot to do; she then said, “Well, this shouldn’t take more than a few days if we all pitch in.”

The group all gathered around the control desk, only for Adam to say, “I can pitch, as long as I leave the game in two hours.” All the girls looked at Adam in confusion. The spider-guy explained, “Date with a cop.”

That evening, Adam had arrived at the CCPD; for once, not as Spiderman. Officer Bars had him in one of the interrogation rooms, and through the one way glass, Adam could see that the robber from last night’s heist was in the room next door.

“So, let me see if I got your story straight; you tell your brother-in-law to go out and find a job, then he calls you to pick him up and you just happen to arrive after we nab the perp.” The officer explained.

Adam replied, “Yeah, I saw what was happening and went to look for a pay phone.” He said, making up some kind of story. “To call for help.”

Officer Bars then said, “Oh wait, that’s where I know you from.” He muttered sarcastically, “You’re the only young adult in the city without a cell-phone glued to his head.”

Suddenly, without warning, the lights went out it was a power failure, the whole room went pitch black. Officer Bars turned on his flashlight and found Adam in the darkness, “Stay here, the generator will kick on in a sec.” With that said, he left the room.

The officer went out to the hall and shined his torch around, it was almost spooky, this entire floor of the building had completely lost power. The officer in the other room, interrogating the robber came out and found her colleague; the two shined their flashlights up at the ceiling and found something creepy.

It was a power cable, torn out of the ceiling and ripped in half; Bars whispered into his radio, “Officers in need of assistance, third floor.”

Back in the interrogation rooms, the red lights had come on; lights that ran on the backup power, not enough to light up the room, but enough so people good just about see. Suddenly, Adam heard something coming from the other room, a growl; he looked over at the glass and saw the robber jump out of his chair, trying to get away from something.

Adam pressed his head against the glass, trying to see what as in there; he heard another growl before the robber was violently thrown against the glass. Adam couldn’t just sit here anymore, so with the lights barely on, Adam took his outer-clothes off and revealed his Spiderman costume underneath.

The cops heard the commotion in the other room, they barged in with their pistols drawn; while shining their torches into the room, they saw on the floor, what was left of the robber.

Without warning, a hand or a claw reached out from the darkness and slashed at Officer Bars, causing him to drop his torch; after that, him and the other officers open fired. The creature escaped into the air-vent in the ceiling; the officers then noticed Spiderman crawling into the room and up the vent as well.

Bars yelled into his radio, “There’s two of them, they’re heading for the roof.”

Spiderman followed the creature through the vent system and up to the roof of the police precinct; the way they got out was the same way the creature got in. It was too dark for Spidey to get a good look at it, but he could still follow it; when they reached the roof, Adam couldn’t see where the thing went.

Adam’s spider-sense then warned him about an incoming threat, but it was too late to dodge it; a tail-like thing whacked Adam across the room. The hero heard one last growl before he got up, only to find the creature was gone.

Spiderman ran over to the vent the thing crawled out of, he found what looked like a clue; a torn piece of clothing, and animal hair. Before he could call the girls, the cops turned up behind him.

Officer Bars yelled out, “On the ground now, you’re under arrest.”

But Spidey wasn’t going to stick around to chat; he jumped off the roof and began swing away.

“Amazing.” Diamond Tiara said, holding photos in heard hand.

Adam had used a new invention of his, lenses in his mask that could take pictures; with an added filter so no one got to suspicious. Adam had taken some photos of last night’s events, hoping to sell them to Diamond Tiara’s news show.

“Creature tail, spider-foot, spider, creature, spider. Cop.” Diamond Tiara then threw the pictures onto the desk, “Can you believe this? This crazy town is over run with animals.”

Adam then replied, “Actually, Spiderman is a man.” His boss then looked at him funny. “Sort of.”

She then responded to that with, “Oh goody, he’s a man. What next, the human-duck?” ‘Tiara then turned to her window and explained, “Headline, the human-duck; terrorizes local ponds and flies south for the winter. What do you think?”

But Adam didn’t know how to respond; Diamond Tiara then looked over the photos one last time, “Four, five, six photos; I’ll give you twenty dollars for each of them.”

“Great.” Adam replied.

Before he could leave, ‘Tiara said one last thing, “This kind of stuff is what I like to see; bring more photos or videos and I’ll take them off your hands.” Adam nodded his head in agreement. “Just remember this is the great city of Canterlot, not the animal planet.”

With that said, Adam collected his check and left.

Later that day, Adam arrived at the HQ, he found the girls were all already there; most of the stuff had already been packed away. It shouldn’t take anymore than a few days to clear the rest out.

Just as Adam was walking in, Fluttershy noticed him come in and walked over to him; she had something to tell him. “Adam, Zephyr called me this morning; he’s moving out, said he found a place he can afford.”

Adam was surprised to hear this, they were talking about the same guy who had been living on their couch for about two weeks because he couldn’t hold a job. The spider-guy replied to her statement, “Did he tell you anything else?”

“Only that he’s back at the apartment right now, collecting his things.” Fluttershy explained. “I don’t know where all this is coming from, but it was a bit of a shock.”

Wanting to put her mind at ease, Adam said, “Don’t worry, I’ll pop round the house and see if I can talk to him; maybe find out what’s going on.” With that said, Adam kissed his wife goodbye before heading out again.

After seeing him leave, Pinkie Pie stated, “Man, that guy will do anything to get out of work.”

“PINKIE!” the rest of the group cried.

With a quick swing and quick change of clothes, Adam arrived back at his apartment; when he opened the door, he noticed the blinds were down and the lights were out. The only source of lights was what was seeping through the gaps in the blinds.

Sitting in a chair by the window, Adam saw someone; he figure that it had to be Zephyr Breeze, but he was wearing a black hoodie with the hood up.

“Zephyr?” Adam asked, checking it was him.

The figure replied with, “Adam.” But the voice sounded different.

Adam then said, “You don’t sound very good; maybe we should get you to a doctor.”

“No, I’m fine.” Zephyr replied.

On the coffee table, Adam noticed some documents, “Those papers; are these your employment forms?”

“That job didn’t last long; they had me in for one session then never called me again.” The hooded Zephyr replied. “Had me test some kind of medicine; he made me think it was going to change the world.” He didn’t notice it at first, but the floor had something that shouldn’t be there; small clumps of hair, or fur.

Zephyr Breeze then said, “Go Adam; I’ll pack my things and I’ll be out of your hair.”

“Zephyr, you’re not well.” Adam replied.

But all the hooded figure said in response was, “Please, go, now.”

He wasn’t going to win this talk, so Adam did as instructed and left; but not before he picked up a piece of the hair that was on the ground. He had an idea, but he was going to need Twilight’s help.

Once he had left, Adam didn’t Zephyr turn his head; he didn’t hear it, but a small growl escaped his mouth. It sounded like an animal.

Adam returned to the HQ and asked to see Twilight in the lab, she followed him to her worked station and he showed Twilight the hair he collected; not only that, but he also had the sample he got from the roof vent at the police station.

“Twilight, I need a DNA signature on this hair; I need to know where it came from.” Adam explained.

So the science girl took the hair and ran a scan on he to samples; while they waited for the results, Twilight asked, “Where did you get this hair anyway?” Before Adam could explain however, the scan was over quickly; meaning the DNA was an exact match for someone they had on file.

In case it ever became useful, the heroes had DNA samples of all their friends and family; if they ever became in danger and need to be tracked and rescued. Twilight took the paper with the results on it, she read it before showing it to Adam.

“The scan reveals traces of rodent DNA, like a mouse or a sewer rat; but that’s not the strangest thing.” Twilight turned Adam’s attention to the bottom of the page. “The hair is heavily mutated, but has an exact match... to Zephyr Breeze.”

Adam fell back in his chair, he didn’t want to believe it; and as much as he didn’t want to hurt Fluttershy, was going to have to bring Zephyr in?

Back at Fluttershy and Adam’s apartment, Zephyr was staring out the window again; he could see the Canterlogic building from here. The poor guy then looked at his hands, and then his face in the glass; what had he become, what had Cross done to him.

Zephyr then looked at the papers on the coffee table; in his new hissy voice, he muttered, “Cross. Cross!” he yelled.

That’s when he could feel the change happening; Zephyr tore off the hoodie as he started to grow taller, he could he his bones scraping against each other. Once the transformation was complete, he looked towards the Canterlogic building and used his claws to scratch the window.

Moments later, Adam arrived back home; just as thunder was starting to rumble in the sky. He opened his front door to find his brother-in-law; but the apartment was empty. It didn’t take Adam long to figure out what had happened; especially with the huge claws marks on the window.

Adam looked down at the papers once again, only this time, they were all scratched up and shredded. The only paper left was the employment form; Adam picked it up and read the description, it said that the accepted applicant would be working with Professor Cross, at Canterlogic.

“Oh my gosh.” Adam muttered.

He looked out the window and saw that you could see the Canterlogic building, he knew instantly that’s where Zephyr Breeze would have gone. Adam used his phone to call Twilight; he told her to suit up and head to the Canterlogic building, he would meet her there.

Professor Cross was working in his lab, trying to duplicate the rat DNA formula; what he didn’t know, was that his test subject was putting his new abilities to use, and scaling the side of the building. Once the creature had reached Cross’ window, he growled and punched his way, smashing the glass; this alerted the professor and caused him to drop what he was doing and attempt to flee.

Zephyr entered the room and slashed a power line with his claws, the lights went out and the room had gone dark.

Not far away, Spiderman and Spider-Girl were on their way to help their friend; they were swinging from building to building, trying to get there before it was too late.

Cross was trying to get away, but the creature was blocking the door; he tried to grab something to defend himself, but all he had were test tubes and lab equipment. The professor attempted to make a run for it, but Zephyr jumped up on to the table and slashed at his arm, causing him to stumble back.

Once Cross got a good look at this creature, it let out a spine shaking growl; Cross tried t back away, but there was no escape from this thing.

Before Zephyr could exact his revenge on Cross for making him this way, the two spiders finally arrived and entered through the hole in the window the rat creature had mad when it broke in; Twilight decided to act like Adam and say a quip, “Hey squeaky, know where we can get a little tail.”

The rat turned around and stared at the two heroes; without warning, Zephyr pounced at Adam, causing them both to go flying out the window. Twilight watched them both begin to fall down to the street below; but Spiderman managed to latch onto the side of the building, Zephyr kept falling before digging his claws into the wall.

Professor Cross crept up behind Spider-Girl with a fire extinguisher he’d taken off the wall; he muttered, “Spiders.” He held up the extinguisher and tried to hit Twilight with it.

“Get out of here.” Spider-Girl ordered.

“Why are you helping me?” Cross demanded to know.

Spider-Girl just replied, “Go!”

Cross did as instructed and just ran out of the room; as he was running, he used his phone to call the authorities, “Yes police, we’ve got an emergency at the Canterlogic building.”

Back outside, the rat was climbing back up the building, trying to go after Adam; Spiderman just stayed where he was, he didn’t know how he was going to stop Zephyr without hurting him. What he did know was that he couldn’t continue this fight on the side of a building, so Spidey crawled up the wall to the roof; Twilight saw him go past and went after him, all while the rat creature was chasing them.

When the two spiders reached the roof, they had to think of a plan; but it was too late, the rat jumped up behind them and whacked them both away with his tail. Fighting him wasn’t the answer, so they tried to see if they could get through to him.

“Zephyr, we know its you, we want to help you, but you have to stop this.” Adam explained. But the rat wasn’t listening, he just kept using his claws to slash at Adam and Twilight. They both jumped up to and satellite tower for safety, “Think about it Zephyr, you don’t want to be like this; but we can’t change you back if you shred us to pieces.”

Spider-Girl then noticed something, a fan behind a panel down on the roof; she drew Zephyr’s attention to the spiders, “Spiderman’s right, Zephyr, let us help you.” She then jumped down to the fan and used her strength to pry the panel away.

Adam jumped down as well and web-zipped towards Zephyr; he didn’t want to, but he began punching and kicking him. Enough to daze him; Twilight then shot two web-lines at the rat and attached the other ends to the centre of the fan.

The strength of the fan pulled Zephyr towards it, causing him to crash into it. Twilight and Adam jumped up on top of the fan’s container and looked down at the rat creature; Adam stated, “I’m sorry Zephyr, but we don’t live in the jungle; we’re gonna have to turn you in.”

Suddenly, a police helicopter flew over the roof of the building; one of the officers in the chopper spoke into a megaphone, “Spiderman, you and your accomplice are under arrest!”

“Accomplice, I’m not his accomplice.” Twilight stated, feeling insulted for being called that.

Without them noticing, Zephyr had got backup; he grabbed both their ankles and pulled them down, h then grabbed them by the neck and held them up against the fan, just as it was starting back up. The rat was about to shred them in the fan, so Spiderman saw only one option; he shot a web-line up to the helicopter and pulled himself up, he used another web to pull Twilight to safety as well.

The rat creature growl when he saw them get away; the spiders weren’t done with him yet, Adam shot another web at Zephyr’s tail and pulled him up with them.

The officer with the megaphone said to the officer piloting the chopper, “We’ve got all three, let’s get them to a holding cell.”

Zephyr was waving his claws around to try an get free; Adam was trying to hold on, Twilight was trying to help, but was also trying to avoid the sharp claws. Spidey said to the rat, “Zephyr please, we can get you help. But if you struggle you’ll just...”

Without warning, the rat slashed at Adam’s hand, causing him to let go of the web and drop Zephyr.

“Fall.” Adam finished with.

After falling from the sky, Zephyr crashed into the street, causing all the cars on the road to stop; the rat had smashed through the ground and into the sewers below. The two spiders jumped down and swung to the street; they reached the hole where the rat had landed, but... he was gone.

All that was in the hole was broken debris, Zephyr had escaped. In light of what had just happened, all Adam could say was, “I’m so sorry Zephyr; I promise, i will find you and help you back to your life.”

Twilight then patted Adam on the shoulder, “We should get out of here.” She said, hearing police cars coming.

The two heroes then shot some webs and swung away; they weren’t sure if they had won this day, or if they had failed horrible.

Author's Note:

I tried very hard to find a picture of Vermin, but I couldn't upload into the chapter; its because I'm using my tablet to write now instead of my laptop. And I do not know how to add pictures to a chapter on a tablet.

If anyone here knows, it would help alot.
