I have to say, I'm still not sure what happened in this story.

The story presents Rainbow Dash, hovering in the middle of a storm over an unknown ocean, far away from land. At the beginning, it's not entirely clear why. As she convinces herself that she's fine, we transition to a flashback showing Applejack sick in bed with some kind of illness, as well as learning that the two appear to be in a relationship. Through several more flashbacks, we see glimpses of Rainbow Dash's attempts to convince the others that she's fine after Applejack's passing. Rainbow Dash flies up into the sky above the storm, and as she sees the clear, peaceful sky, she has one final memory of a tender moment with Applejack, before plummeting down towards the ocean, performing a Sonic Rainboom, and crashing straight into the water at supersonic speed, presumably killing herself.
