Sharp Shooter finally returns home after being stationed overseas for two years. Only problem is, no one really sees him as a hero, or anything positive for that matter. With no job or family, Sharp travels to Ponyville.

Nice work, as always! You know, I often wonder, get ponies who just pass through also a welcome party?
10399814
Haha! I thought about that too, but I think unless they stay for a longer period of time they'll probably not get a welcome to Ponyville party, exclusively for residents.
10399818
Good point! Looking forward to see how it contuines.
And my offer abouzt the OCs still stands
I wish I could say I was surprised, but Pinkie Pie sometimes has trouble understanding her greetings might be unwelcome to others. I hope he didn’t hurt anyone, I can’t imagine that will go over well. But it’s hard to tell.
Sounds like Sharp is suffering from PTSD. Not surprising where he just came from, and with Pinkie's over excitement about parties and the use of her Party Cannon, can cause an event to trigger.
Oh no. Here come the flashbacks.
10399851
I don't think he would. More then likely he ducked behind a table and started yelling. Explosions means artillery, rockets or grenades and one takes cover and yells for support.
I, kinda saw that coming, as it makes sense.
Yeah loud noises around veterans is never a good idea.
You want confetti but Pinkie will get regretti. I know this isn't original or rhymes but the points still stands.
I really like how you described Sharp's trip through PTSD land at the end. Though, I was more expecting him to duck behind a table and scream "Artillery!" or somepony's name.
Enter the Pinkie Trauma Surprise Disaster...
This almost happened to me back in 2015 when I got back from Afghanistan. I would flinch and my eyesight would bler when something load would go off. I got better and came over most of the PTSD with time and resultants. Also, it helps like if I know something is going happen like someone firing a gun or setting off a homemade explosive in my back yard(LOL).
Time and Friends will be Sharps greatest allies.
A thing that will help is getting his gun out and fire off a few rounds now and then. It will help fight back the trauma.
I forgot. Was this always mature?
10400483
Yes sir.
I'm gonna call it now... the Cutie Mark Crusaders will get their hooves on his gun
Wait...
Has the internet really skewed my expectations so badly, or are these Milk mares a little more involved in the milk-making process than I hope?
10400690
Pffft, haha! I knew some people would get that thought. The easy answer is no, no they are not, they simply deliver it. But I knew people would think about Milkyway , so it is more a nod towards the fandom and that character.
10399911
Yeah, but at such close range I imagine his first instinct would be to disarm her.
10400409
We know, tis part of thine sarcasm.
Well... That went as well as I expected.
I wonder if PTSD is as well known here.
10400108
I spend a lot of time thinking about how to best do that scene. The first idea I had was to simply let him open the door and have Pinkie shoot the cannon at him.
But I thought that would be a let down. So I went back to the drawing table, did as much prober research I could on PTSD so it would not feel glanced over.
I looked at triggers and symptoms, and finally decided to let you guys follow his experience. What I like is that we are actually seeing him having a panic attack, but did the cannon trigger something more?
I have made sure his reactions would be faithful to what one with PTSD can experience, a panic attack is just one example, and I felt that one fit better as a way to introduce us to it.
Oh Sharp jas either Anxiety or PTSD
10403670 Yes
And Sharp was trying so hard to be respectful.
10399851
Oh my, I didn't even think about the fact he may have gone into an 'episode'.
(That is the right word, right?)
When DDash said "everything went dark", my first assumetion was that he fainted.
10399911
Hope your right. 👍
10400637
God no. If DDash does write about that, I'm going to be hoping it's done in a certain manner. (Of course it's not my story to dictate. I look forward to seeing how it's written, if at all.)

It is always awesome when an author puts in time for research to make sure the story follows a more realistic manner. Your time and effort does show DanishDash.

It would be a fun point to write about, but I feel like that would fall into a certain predictable narrative. Even if they got a hold of his rifle, Sharp would not be foolish enough to leave it loaded, or keep the ammunition close by. However even then I would doubt that they would figure out how to load it, switch he safety on, and then fire.
A way I could see it happening if Sharp was out shooting, then turned his back to it while talking to someone else, and then the girls would somehow get it to fire. But even then, Sharp as a trained soldier would probably not have left the safety off.
If something should happen it would probably not be related to play, more like he shows how it works and maybe shoot off a few rounds with them. But the rifle is pretty much impossible to shoot without being trained to walk on the hind legs.
Well, shooting would not be a problem, more like shooting it safely would be impossible.
10406323
I certainly can see the difficulty of not falling into a predictable narrative. My own creative story telling needs ALOT more practice before it will be non-predictive. It is a real skill I have yet to develope.
Well... shit. Great job breaking Sharp, Pinkie.
I knew at sometime Pinkie would break a pony with her party.
Oof, I think we all saw that ending coming. Dang, I almost feel bad for how shitty Pinkie is going to be feeling after all this.
Just got read rest of this chapter and oh boy pinkie, I hope he didn't hurt anyone and just blacked out, and the end with party cannon is something to set off anyone with bad PTSD at this point in timeline I think, considering hes one of the first of soldiers with guns that also gone to a hell worse then any pony in Equestria has faced in...600 years?
I'm sure people have already said this before me, but loud noises, anything to do with gunpowder and explosives in particular, do not mix well, well, you'd think that the only thing to trigger 'combat mode' would be fireworks and gunfire, but no, sometimes all it takes is one person shouting, as demonstrated.
Well...not exactly silly..
Great job Pinkie, great job
Oh dear. Poor guy, hope he didn't deck Pinkie.

Ww1 is what he lived through if ww1 had gorilla warfare instead of tranches
And there it is, the inevitable PTSD flashback..... was wondering when that particular demon would rear it's ugly head.......
