Herzschmerz - Lil Penpusher

Ferdinand Dawnclaw had always been loyal to the Empire. And yet, here he stood, seen by many as the most treacherous and vile Griffon in all of Griffonia. Many of his choices made little sense to others... or sometimes, even himself.

Good to see someone writing about Dawnclaw, he really is one of EaW's best characters. Something to note though, you don't need to capitalize nearly so often. It make it a bit hard to read.

I'll be honest I don't know much about the EaW universe but reading this may just make me look into it a bit more. A really thought-provoking story as it goes into the muddied moral mess of trying to save one's home and how far some will go. Although I have to admit it's hard for me to sympathize with Dawnclaw because no matter how hard you try there's nothing that can justify the murder of a child. Which may be the point you're trying to push in which case more power to you. Anyways a nice short story and best of fortune to you!

Ah, yeah I get that a lot. Have been trying to get a better grip around capitalisation for a while now, but my native tongue (German) makes it quite hard. Apologies!

Glad you enjoyed the story, though!

Ferdinand (or Lord-Protector, whatever you want to call him) is a deliberately morally grey character, and extremely polarising at that, both in this story as well as the community of Equestria at War.

Some think he is saving the Empire from corruption by getting rid of the Nobles and Clergy which have been sawing at the last remnants of stability the Empire had. So in that sense... he's right. It's just that his actions taken - the murder of civilians and torching of homes, and especially the murder of the child-emperor Grover VI - is what antagonises him among many. It's basically the case of:

"Man something needs to change around here, this sucks!"
*Child dies*
"Bruh."

It also certainly means that the Bronzehill faction will never forgive him for the death of the Emperor line, so he'd eventually have to kill them all.

The Bronzehills loyalty to the Emperor is unique and powerful enough that they would never allow forgiveness. They are one of the few where all ideologies would support Grover VI.

Aw Man. This... hits home. To be honest though (after playing the two main routes on the Griffonian Empire) I feel he's right about the Clergy and the Nobles. While Gabriela Eagleclaw is definitely not the corrupt one he puts her out to be, she could totally tear the empire apart if allowed to stay in power.

To be honest, now I really need to try this route.

After almost 1 year of this release.. I found this one while looking around the Fimfiction about EaW things... This one popped up.

Ferdinand is almost a cool griffon to me... But him, Shooting a child? That’s deep...

If you want, You can still try to continue about Ferdinand’s life and such, Like that he progressed further and such... Capturing Alexander and such.
Also, It was.. 'very interesting' to read, except the child part...

(Had to register on Fimfiction for the first time to comment on this, But still: Its just a few ideas for you to continue this book about Ferd.)

Nice that you extended the story Ferdinand Dawnclaw. Even though the bleak content I enjoyed reading my first EAW fanfic. I will probably look into your other works in the future. And at some point, I will also try to play the Dawnclaw parth.

Gruß aus Norddeutschland.
