Shrinky Dink is a unicorn scientist working for Princess Twilight. She, with the help of Fizzy Wings, a changeling and her partner in crime, has created a shrinking potion based off a spell she created. Now, villains new and old seek this potion in order to use it for their own nefarious purposes, and it's up to Shrinky Dink and Fizzy Wings to become Ant-Mare and the Wasp to save Equestria, along with the friends they make along the way.
THIS TAKES PLACE AFTER THE SEASON 9 FINALE, SO THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!!!!

Why not start with an adaptation of the first movie?

Mostly because I had my own story I really wanted to tell, with characters based off the ones from both the movies and the comics. If I just retold the story of the movie, but with ponies, then people wouldn't have any reason to read it. They could just watch the movie. But I actually considered doing that at first. The first draft of the story was very similar to the movie. But as I developed the story idea, I came up with new ideas I wanted to put in. So, over time, it eventually evolved into the story I'm telling now. Once it's complete, you'll notice the very basic core plot of movie is the backbone of the story. Plus, the story submission rules don't allow retelling a story or movie, but with ponies. But it's mainly the first reason.
