Discord and Twilight start the adventure off by learning of an ancient power sealed away for thousands of years. Zecora tells them of an ancient history unknown to Clesetia and even to the great Starswirl the Bearded. While the dark spirits try to break free from their ancient burial grounds it'll take the entire nation of Equestria to banish them back from where they came. Twilight, her friends, the princesses, Discord and many more from all over Equestria join in a great struggle to fight back the darkness who ruled many thousands of years before Celestia, before the Pony of Shadows, before the EUP, before the modern pony even existed.

If I recall there are not a lot of OCs in "Crystalbook" so I'll list them below. As far as the the main cast for CT:ANT they will follow the Crystal book OC cast.
Crystal Book OCs
Antagonist
Torment - Deep, breathy voice with a lot of bass and growl. Sort of like "The Terror" from "The Tick" but larger and growlier.
The Six spirits - Are similar to the voices of the titans in Disney's "Hercules".
Protagonists
Moonlet - No accent, relatively neutral vocal range for a 20-26 year old female, can sometimes talk too fast for some to keep up. Close approximate is Starlight
Cherry Tune - No Accent, chill spoken, moderate energy, will sometimes over inflect like the Sweetie Belle squeak but not as high pitched. Mix of Pinkie and Sweetie Belle.
Cherry Tune: A New Tune OC cast (minus CT and Moon)
Promenade - Soft spoken but confident, slightly lower pitch then a typical 20-26 yo female, Slight mid-Atlantic/Transatlantic accent. Mix between Flutter shy and Celestia might come close
Sugar Cloud - 18-24 yo female vocal range, no accent, easy paced cadence when speaking. Rapunzel from Tangled comes to mind.
Sapphire Spark - The Buttercup, Rainbow Dash, typical punk rock girl voice, I'd say in between BC and RDs pitch.
Sunny Side - Kinda that big sister voice, no accent, loud when's she gotta be but typically reserved.
Nightfall - Slightly monotone, lower voice register, eloquent and easy spoken most of the time. Think the cool smart anime guy in MOST animes. (except he's a dork)
