Great chapter
INTRIGUE! DECEIPT! PEOPLE REMEMBERING THINGS THE WAY THEY WANT TO BECAUSE LET'S FACE IT WE ALWAYS BELIEVE OURSELVES MORE THAN OTHER PEOPLE WHEN IT COMES TO OUR MEMORIES!
Hmmmm, interesting.
One of the unwritten task for all who bare 'manager' title.
*Remembering Envy's role in the Ishvalan Civil War*
It was Changelings, wasn't it? That threw the first spear? They wanted a chaotic Equestria, so that they could more easily infiltrate or invade it.
Interesting. I haven't any theories on who threw the spear, but I wonder if Rough has started amassing unicorn volunteers yet. Does she know from the spell that it takes six normal unicorns a day, every day, and their magic is permanently drained? It will be quite interesting to see just how much ponies are willing to pay for their "agency."
Celestia might not want to do it, but some of the more hardened members of the court might offer to let Rough raise the sun, or have it raised, instead of Celestia, on the condition that Rough is not allowed to force or pressure unicorns into volunteering. Once Rough runs out of capable volunteers, Celestia can resume her duty.

From what I know, the process drains unicorns but not instantly. If it was instant, Star Swirl would be in trouble.
9031889 Starswirl was extraordinarily powerful, so he could withstand a bunch of drainings, but ten other unicorns need to "constantly offer up their magic as a sacrifice for the good of Equestria." (Starswirl did the morning and evening ritual, with two other teams of five).

None of that offers a timeline of how long it takes for a given unicorn to be sucked dry of their magic juice.
Even Twilight's little play on the matter ended up implying it wasn't instant, hence them being able to look harried, since there would be no 'harried' step. They'd either look fresh and new, or done. The canon evidence points to it being a horrible thing, but not instant.
9032364 Fair enough, that makes sense.

You have legit made my day. It feels almost depressingly rare to have a debate go my way on the Internet.

You can't tell anyone I admitted someone else was right on the internet, it will ruin my street cred!
But seriously, I pride myself on my ability to admit when I'm wrong. If people don't do that, you may as well never discuss things with them.
Well, Rough Bearing seems reasonable enough at least. Still, with a name like that, no obvious pony in the present day who's her descendant.
