Like Tears in the Rain

Monday Morning, CHS, 16:05

Finally, schools over for the day and i can't wait to get home. Even the rain, still pouring outside, couldn't put a damper on my mood as i started to pack my bag. It hasn't been the most interesting of days, but it was not bad by any means. For one this was another rainy day where i reflected over the difference with the weather on Earth and Equestria. Most of these reflections ended with me wishing that i could control the Earths weather just like the Equestrian. Sure, i am not a pegasus and i have never studied any weather spells, but at the very least i knew what weather was planned for the week. Here however you just have to deal with it, if it rains it rains and even if the forecast says sun, it will still rain and to be honest, unpredictable weather kind of has it charm to it as the unpredictability makes the weather somehow more magical here rather then it being controlled to perfection as it is back in Equestria.

A personal win for me however is that i was actually able to have a relatively normal conversation with Snips and Snails. Sure they are kind of doofuses, but they are kind of charming in their on way. The reason me being able to talk to them is a success is because they are still some of the few that are still visibly uncomfortable around me. I can't really blame them, being the schools biggest bully and even going as far as to turn into a demon and planning to take over a distant pony world would put a damper on anyones reputation, so i don't blame anyone who is still scarred of me. So while i am sad over my past and that i still get nervous looks sometimes, being able to make new friends and continuing to improve myself, makes it all worth it.

Pinkie invited me over to Sugar Cube Corner for milkshakes, but sadly i wasn't able to join her today, i was already late for a book report, and i would rather skip milkshake than redoing another assignment.

I didn't miss out on anything because the rest of my friends where also busy, Twilight also prioritised the book report, Applejack has farm chores, Rarity has her new part time job at a local clothing store, Fluttershy has her job at the local shelter and Rainbow Dash said she would just like to go home and chill. Poor Pinkie, she had to drink our milkshakes alone, but she perked up when we all promised to join her tomorrow. Seeing Pinkie go from depressed to practically brimming in the span of a few seconds makes me legitametly ponder over her mental state, and remembering how her mind looks like, i wonder if even a psychologist would be able to figure Pinkie out.

During my walk home i started to think more about Equestria, i won't lie and say that i don't get homesick sometimes. My thoughts eventually wandered to a question i been pondering for a long time, where is this worlds Sunset, considering i have never seen her around she probably went to a private school, just like me in Equestria, still it would be interesting to see what i am like here. Would this world version of me also be a former bully, would we have the same taste in music..... is she also an orphan.

All these questions aside, the rain was starting to pour even heavier so i started to jog home a little quicker.

Damn this rain, it's just getting heavier and even colder, but soon i will be home, home with a big cup of tea, snuggle up in a blanket with Sunshine and then i am gonna....ohf....

I fall right down on my butt, must have gotten lost in thought and bumped into someone, i looked up and saw a middle aged woman who had also fallen on the sidewalk, "Hey Miss, are you alright, sorry i wasn't really looking and i"....What?

I looked at the woman in front of me and was to say the least, stunned at what i saw. She looked so familiar, with crimson and yellow hair that was styled in a bun and wearing a black overcoat.

The woman in turn looked at me first with shock, not the kind of shock of having someone accidentally after accidentally running into someone, but instead a shock that looked slightly horrified at first, then sort of tired and then....sort of hopeful.

Tears started swelling in her eyes as she reached to touch my skin, but as soon as her trembling hand made contact I flinched back, myself not fully comprehending what was happening.

And then i ran.

Those who know me might be confused at this as i usually am more forward and at least try to make sense out of something, but right now, knowing whom i might have just seen and the way our meeting had transpired, uncomfortable thoughts raged trough my mind, and just like before i was lost in my thoughts and did not realize where i was running to, all the while hearing the women calling out to me, her pained filled screams only muted by the still pouring rain.

After several minutes of running and trying not to slip in the rain, i decided to finally let myself take a breather and scurry my surroundings to see where my aimlessness had led me.

The local cemetery, just the freaking place i needed.

I looked over the graves and briefly glanced of the names, i just needed to think happier thoughts and yet i felt compelled to look at the graves, something about seeing the names of ones living people who no longer exist has a strange pull to it. I continued to to look at the names while slowly heading to the exit when suddenly.........

Suddenly i saw a name, a name that made my think about my place here on Earth and several unansvered questions recieving a sudden ansver. Thoughts went back to the woman i had just fled from and now, my eyes started to swell with tears as i looked at the name inscribed on the tombstone.

Sunset Shimmer

Author's Note:

Yeah, this is hardly the best showcase of my writing abilities, i mostly rushed this to be able to publish something before the new year, so i will probably rewrite this :twilightsheepish:

Regardlessly of the quality of this story, i wish all of you who have taken time to read this, a Happy New Year :pinkiehappy:

Thank you

I been thinking about writing a chapter about Sunset trying to find the woman she met (who is the human Sunsets mom) and try to talk with her. Not sure if i am gonna do it but at least i have an idea as how to continue the story.

Hmm i would say do it.

The word I is always meant to be capitalized. Please respond to this comment.

Sorry, I wrote this in a rush (made a bet to myself to publish it before New Years Eve), will definitely have to edit some parts, including making all I's capital
Thanks for your input, it's good to know where I failed so I can improve

Not bad for a first try. And let's face it, its what makes the most sense when it comes to where human Sunset is.

I'd say pay attention to how people construct paragraphs, and ask yourself why certain ones strike you and why others don't. Read a little of a great story then read some utter garbage. It'll help you grow as a writer.

Good Job. :pinkiehappy:

Thank you commenting and i appreciate the advice given.

Good luck with Barleycorn, the last chapter was one of the stories best and i am really looking forward to the conclusion.

Now i am going to write a story that is even more horrifying than any Lovecraft novel: Flash and Twilights Wedding :raritycry:

Go for it. it would be an interesting story to read.

Thanks for the encouragement, i'll start working on it when i get the time to :pinkiehappy:

Also I agree with the human sunset being dead. For it will be the only possibility way for sunset to be even able to live in the human world as long as she has with out trouble.

The ending was predicable but still a good ending nonetheless. The fact that she ran into the mother of the human sunset makes me question why I haven't seen a fic where someone from Equestria comes through the portal just with the goal of taking over their human counterparts life. It could be a thrilling horror story about the human version of the character trying to cling to their sanity while the Equestrian version grows more and more evil. Think of the classic double doppelganger story but EQG

You get used to it pretty quickly.

What a coincidence if you ask me.

I did not expect this plot twist.
