The entire fight in the first chapter was a bit weird, but that was already spoken over by people, so moving on. The stuff you inserted into it, however, is very good. Twilight getting overconfident here for a second and being knocked down a peg? Good(objectively speaking)! Her, ultimately, walking away with tons of new good stuff? Even better! It is only left for us to hope she learned her lesson as well. Great stuff man, nuff said.

Now, non pony races being able to use magic is going to be very neato, I can already tell. Opens a heck ton of possibilities. And I already told my opinion on musical magic.

All that said, the second chapter feels a bit... rushed. Maybe it will not look so after edits, not sure, but right now it has the "I wanna get this out of the way asap" vibe. Did you, perchance, wrote it in one sitting sometime after posting the first one?

Oh, right. From the way you described it in these two chapters, it seems as if Twilight can wrestle control back from the amulet after giving in, amirite?

Yes, Twilight can regain control from the Amulet. She devotes a lot of brain power to keep herself from being compelled by it, but it is manageable for her. That was part of why she was able to think her way out of her prison as well, because the repressive magic trying to keep her power down actually freed up her mind of having to keep the Amulet at bay at all times, which gave her full access to her most dangerous tool in her repertoire. Her intellect.
