Planning for Next Year

The commons was full as it usually was on a Monday morning. Most of the students were eating breakfast while some of them chatted with each other. Rainbow, who sat with Sunset Shimmer, looked around the room. She noticed how Maud was feeding Boulder, how Big Mac was eating a plate full of apples, and how the Cutie Mark Crusaders were trying to see who can roll a coin the longest. She was was paying attention to everything except what Sunset Shimmer was saying. She could hear some sounds coming from her mouth, but she couldn’t understand them.

“Rainbow Dash!” Sunset Shimmer shouted.

Rainbow bolted up, ready to defend herself. She saw that it was Sunset Shimmer, and her defenses lowered. “Hey!”

“Did you pay attention to anything I said?” Sunset Shimmer asked, annoyed. Her arms were crossed on her chest.

“Yeah! Of course!” Rainbow answered.

Sunset Shimmer rolled her eyes and tested, “What was I talking about?”

Rainbow couldn't begin to answer Sunset’s question. She wasn’t even sure what she was doing in the first place. The only sound that came out of her mouth was a long, “Uhhhh…”

“You need to sign up for your classes for next year!” Sunset Shimmer answered. She groaned and stood up. “Come with me. This place isn’t going to help us.”

Rainbow followed her, and the both headed towards the library. As they walked, Rainbow commented, “It’s not my fault I have ADHD. I get distracted easily.”

“Don’t blame your ADHD for this!” Sunset Shimmer told Rainbow.

Rainbow rolled her eyes and explained, “ADHD stands for Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder. I’m pretty sure the attention deficit part means I get easily distracted.”

“You were given medication, and you chose to not take it!” Sunset accused.

“It makes me less motivated and reduces my energy levels! I’m an athlete, not an egghead! I’m not going to give up the things I enjoy the most so I can be boring like society wants me to be!” Rainbow shouted, defensively.

Sunset Shimmer opened the door of the library. “Keep it down now. We’re in a library.” She couldn’t argue with Rainbow. The Ritalin did more harm than good. Sure, Rainbow was able to pay attention in class, but she also ate less and had high levels of anxiety. The loss of appetite most likely caused her to lose her energy and athletic performance. Ritalin didn’t even do anything for the hyperactive part. She was moving around a lot more than usual, but that was due to agitation, another side effect.

The two girls walked through the library until they found a table away from others. Sunset Shimmer looked into Rainbow’s eyes and instantly fell into a trance. She wasn’t able to speak or move. Memories of a hypnosis show filled her mind.

It was a Saturday afternoon. The seven girls were walking out of a hypnosis show. Most of them enjoyed it, but Rainbow was visibly annoyed. Every time someone talked about the show, she rolled her eyes and sighed.

Her friends kept asking her why she didn’t like it, but she never answered. She didn’t want to admit that she was an egghead. She didn’t want to admit that she knew something about hypnosis.

Sunset Shimmer was able to get her to talk. “I know you don’t believe in hypnosis, but…”

Rainbow interrupted her, “I believe in hypnosis!” She shouted. “That wasn’t hypnosis! It was people going along with the act for fun! Do you want to know what real hypnosis is?! I can show you!”

Sunset Shimmer’s curiously was too much. If Rainbow was saying that the hypnosis show wasn’t true hypnosis, then what was her definition of hypnosis? “Sure,” she agreed.

Rainbow took a deep breath and calmed down. “Come to my house after we get back,” She instructed.

Sunset Shimmer snapped out of the trance after she felt Rainbow lightly shaking her shoulder. She blushed and admitted, “I was thinking about something that happened awhile back.” She chuckled and said, “I think we’re both guilty of getting distracted.”

Rainbow chuckled as well and said, “Yeah. Don’t worry about it. Let’s just figure out my schedule for next year.”

“I think you should take psychology,” Sunset suggested.

Rainbow cocked her head. “Why do you say that?” She asked.

Sunset Shimmer held up her fingers and pointed to each finger as she listed a reason, “First, you know a lot about hypnosis, which is part of psychology. Second, you may learn something that could boost your athletic performance. Third, you can learn how to get what you want through manipulation. Fourth…”

“Why would I want to manipulate someone?” Rainbow asked, interrupting.

“I don’t know,” Sunset admitted. Rainbow didn’t seem like the type of person to use manipulation. She liked to get what she wanted, but she preferred to be fair, for the most part.

“Psychology does sound tempting,” Rainbow replied. She wrote it down as one of her classes.

Sunset looked at Rainbow’s classes for next year. English 4, Psychology, and Advanced Weights were already listed. “Add Health,” She commanded.

“Forgot about health,” Rainbow commented as she wrote it down.

“Now you need a math class and an elective,” Sunset told her.

“I have to take geometry again,” Rainbow said, as she wrote it down. Sunset Shimmer nodded. “I’m going to take Advanced Vocals, too.”

“You were great in Choir,” Sunset complimented. “I would be surprised if you don't get in Advanced Vocals.”

“I should probably have a backup elective just in case,” Rainbow figured, as she wrote “Music Appreciation,” On the paper. “I wish I could do PE again,” Rainbow said.

Sunset Shimmer giggled and rolled her eyes. “You would do PE several times a day every year if you wanted to.”

“I would,” Rainbow admitted, also giggling.

Sunset looked at Rainbow’s schedule and made sure that she wasn’t forgetting any credits. Everything looked good, so she stood up. “We’re finished. Do you want me to send this to the counselor so you don’t forget?” She offered.

Rainbow nodded, “Yeah. That would be a great idea. I usually forget these kinds of things.”

Sunset and Rainbow left the library. Rainbow went back to the commons, and Sunset went to the counselor office to turn in Rainbow’s Senior schedule.

Author's Note:

Keep in mind that this isn't completely based on canon. There has been no canon evidence that Rainbow has any interest in psychology and would know how to hypnotize, but there's nothing saying otherwise, either. That means it's not Alternative Universe.

Rainbow's ADHD is a continuation of a past fanfiction.

I don't actually know what grade the Humane Six are.

Sorry of Rainbow and/or Sunset are out of character.

I don't think Advanced Vocals exists in any school. I probably just made it up. I don't know for certain, though.

Finally, it's very short because I wanted to write a short fanfiction. I just wrote it because I could imagine Rainbow being into psychology and applying psychology to athletics.

Well, the beggining was OOC, but the rest was alright.

I wonder if Rainbow can become a doctor.

Probably not. It would require a lot of school, and Rainbow couldn't do that.

I know the EG universe has the mane 6 in high school, but they've always looked more like college students to me. Eh, whatever.

6868270
Yeah. Too much.

Maybe she can become what she is. An soccer player.

6868534 ...You don't need a degree to be a soccer player.

Oh, right. My bad. :facehoof:

Given that the CMC are freshmen in the high school, and Sunset Shimmer had roughly three years to plan her revenge against Celestia, I think it's safe to say that the Mane Six and Humane Six are the age of high school seniors.

I'm pretty sure Twilight is on the younger side. There was no mention of her being late, like Rarity and Applejack, so I don't really think she was late. Fluttershy's height hints that she's at the older side, too. So Fluttershy, Applejack, and Rarity are the elder ones. Rainbow, I think, is the youngest. I just don't know who's older between Pinkie or Twilight.

Well, that was... anticlimactic. Really anticlimactic.
At least a quarter of the story was about hypnosis. You mentioned a hypnosis show the seven were in, Rainbow hypnotizing Sunset and Sunset falling into trance again at the school, and then leave those plot points without giving any more information on any of them.
I know the story is about Rainbow having trouble with picking her classes for the next school year (or at least I suppose it is), but the way you wrote it I feel like I missed at least two very interesting stories, both relevant to my interests, and instead got a nicely written description of someone filling out a sheet of paperwork.

I thought the Mane Six were adults. I mean they have jobs, and we know that Rarity, Rainbow, Twilight, and Fluttershy live alone. Pinkie lives with Mr and Mrs. Cake, and Applejack lives with her family, but that doesn't mean they can't live alone. If you think the age of Equestria Girls and My Little Pony are the same, that means Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna are thousands of years old, and that wouldn't make any sense. Cheerilee wouldn't be a teacher because Rarity and Cheerilee are around the same age. (Which means all the Mane Six are the age Cheerilee is.) I think the Mane Six are in their 20s.

Applejack: 25
Rarity: 25
Fluttershy: 25
Twilight: 24
Rainbow: 24
Pinkie: 24

Rainbow said she was the first to get her cutie mark in her class, but Pinkie got her cutie mark before any of her sisters, despite not being the oldest. I don't know for certain who got their cutie mark first. But I do know for certain that Rainbow and Pinkie are the youngest two. I also think that the Mane Six are all around the same age, just one year apart at most. Whether they're older or younger depends on what month they were born.

In Equestria Girls, they're teenagers. In the show, they're adults.

6875864 If you think about it, Equestria, or at least Ponyville from what we've seen, is a society where fillies and colts only attend "primary" or elementary school; with the students, more often than not, finding their calling/talent during that time.
If you remember from the episode Cutie Mark Chronicles, Rarity was already working in the Carousel Boutique, and while Flutters and Dash were both at SUMMER Flight Camp, that might not mean that they were in the same grade. (I attended a SUMMER Camp once, where there campers were anywhere from 10 to 18....)
I can't remember if it's just a headcanon that I explicitly subscribe to, or if it was actually mentioned in the show, but I feel like Dashie was such a strong flier they bumped he up a year or 2. Plus, with Flutters taller build in that scene, she could have easily been older than RD.
P.s. RD'a birthaversary is coming up. (B-day and aniversary of moving to Ponyville)

All we know for SURE is that Fluttershy is 1 year older than Pinkie. Quote:
 : "... Just leave it to your old Auntie Pinkie Pie."
:flutterrage: : "I'm a year older than you."

That reminds me.... We need a deadpan Flutters emote. Mods/Programmers, plz.

Funny thing is, Faust has actually been asked about the mane 6's ages, and her responce was something along the lines of: I did not actually give them a certain age, but they're somewhere around the equivalent of a young adult. Mature enough to support themselves, but young enough to still make mistakes, and learn from them.

6877943 yes, I just made you read all that just for the last bit to kill it all.... :trollestia:
Am I supposed to have a smug grin right now? Because I do..... :ajsmug:
