you are really making me hate Celestia in this story. Either it is still psychotic and still needs to be put down before it hurts anyone else or she has fucked with its head and she needs to be put down before she hurts anyone else. I would have killed it right then and there just to put it out of its misery because what she has done is cruel, and I would not wish it on my worst enemy. It is a fate worse than death.
boop
6554925 Killing something that was only born three days ago is kind of cruel, even if it did kill hundreds, shindu doesn't know right from wrong and only reacted on need not want. To kill something before it had a chance to learn to live is cruel, and celestia knows that, you may not agree with her methods but she has experience and a sound mind, so deal with it.
And besides its a story, a what is a story without a little twist.
NOSE POKES THAT VILE FIEND!
Okay this might now become a adorable awesome story, "you had my interest before, now you have my attention."
6554925 I have worse fates in mind compared to what Celestia did but I agree with your sentiment.
Celestia does come across as a bit... cool in this instance (and not in the colloquial sense). At least Shendu is off to a decent start; nose-boops are a sign of good character.
Shendu is cute. More Shendu please.
Keep up the great work mate. I eagerly await the next chappy.
While I enjoy this story, I think I'm going to wipe my hands of it. There is no logical reason for Celestia to have kept it alive. As 6554925 said, realistically it is still psychotic and needs to be put down before it can hurt anyone else or she has fucked with it's head and it needs to put down before it can hurt anyone else.
Mercy is all fine and dandy but before mercy comes the safety of her wards/subjects {which this creature is/was not} and arguably first and foremost in that category for any capable ruler is threat-prevention. Saving the mass-murdering monster {I think the counter was between 30 and 50, I don't remember exactly} regardless of the circumstances in which you do so is not threat prevention and not becoming of a competent ruler.
I wish you the best of luck in future endeavors, but for this particular story, I wash myself of it.

"Wipe my hands of it" is a rather insulting way to put that...
Wasn't Wrath a regular human before Celestia's parents summoned him?
Had he ever even killed anything before being forced into that situation?
its not gone its just sealed it will awaken in time and this whole mess will start over shoulda killed it when you had the chance but on the other hand that would be a rather short story wouldnt it
6555397 his backstory is intentionally vague. It will be revealed peice by peice over the course of the story.
A boop to the nose is always a good fall back action. Not even a day as a pony and it's already learned that.
6555397
I wouldn't say regular human, I'm pretty sure he comes from a different universe, considering he spoke of blood magic and monsters with such familiarity
6554925 Agreed. This is getting harder to read.
6554969 you say that... But this is how I read these chapters...
"You may have killed over 50 of my loyal subjects, and tried to murder my sister, but you know what? I dont think its your fault. Here. Have a body and live a life. Like the ones you took from my subjects."
Yyyyyeeeeaaaah...
OH MY DOG THAT'S ADORABLE.
6554925
Oh, and everything this guy said.
6556141 Actually, it was over 200. So, yeah... That's even worse.
6554925 I completely agree. My view on the matter is that the moment you mess with someones head you might as well have killed them and created a new life from scratch because they are no longer what they were, they are something completely different. I also agree that without mental alterations the change in form would not change it's behavior, you don't go from viewing all other life worthless for anything other than food to valuing other beings as equals and being able to function in society like that without something fucked up going on. I'd bet that's part of the spell and the reason why the dragon was happy to help peace talks between ponies and dragons even though they stole it's race and identity.
6555324 It's subjective.
6556420
Comparing a story to filth is not "subjective".
Wrath's one and only weakness, the reset button!
6555307 I think you messed up a little, either it's still psychotic, or Celestia brainwashed it, and we need to put the Princess down before she messes with anyone else's head.
6555399 what this guy said
6558045
Theres also the fact that Shendu killed over 200 ponies, an entire village gone silent, and it gets a new possibly happy life?
Theres being kind and merciful and then theres being dumb, and no one questions this! if the public learns who Shendu especially friends and families of it's victims , they would surely demand blood.
6558841 i direct you to this comment ---> 6554925
ok first off guys she did not change shendu's personality what little of it we have established. using context clues from the text it is a fairly good chance nothing but a physical change took place here. which depending on how you look at it is might make the situation better or worse, either way at least in shendu's case mind fuckery is unlikely to have happened.
that being said Enternal this twist feels forced for plots sake more then anything else. kudos on coming up with something no one was expecting but as you can see from the rage comments....well you gave us the wickedly boodly scary ass monster worthy of any Friday the 13th horror movies and now expect us to be all d'aww look at the cute filly. i don't think that is going to fly, i am interested to see what you do with this feedback or even how you go from here.
so overall chapter review....i want to hold judgement for now and i have one question, is Shendu still missing a leg?
6561695 She is not missing a leg. But her severed leg will make a return.
6561695 I would disagree with you on the 'no mind fuckery' point because there hasn't been enough to read after the transformation to rule it out and epic mind fuckery is the only reason I can think of that would have made the dragon in the past go from burning down villages to assisting with peace talks after having it's race and identity stolen. As it was the same spell as back then which was used on the maiden then the same pacifying effect must have been applied to it as well.
I dunno man, I gotta agree with some other readers that this story is kinda becoming a tough pill to swallow due to the same stated fact that Shendu is getting a free pass for committing the worst crime in Equestria to date. I mean Wrath himself did what the ponies who summoned him here wanted him to do on the battlefield...gets an eternity in imprisonment. Luna tries to overthrow Celestia and plunge the world into eternal night through force (doesn't kill anypony) gets banished to the moon for 1,000 years. Discord just all around screws with ponies and has no respect for rules other than his own (doesn't kill anypony), gets sentenced to life in stone (serves over 1,000 years of that sentence before escaping and being re-stoned before reform is even mentioned). Sombra enslaves the entire crystal empire, turns the princess to a crystal statue and shatters her to pieces and scatters them to be tracked down and put back together in order to resurrect her, (hard to believe he didn't kill anypony or anypony's death came via his actions but since I only have show/comic canon to go by and since it wasn't stated...didn't kill anypony), banished for 1,000+ish years. Chrysalis invades Canterlot, impersonates royalty, attempts to capture and harvest love by imprisoning everypony (didn't kill anypony, although eluded to attempts in this story) sentenced life in prison (or killed by Wrath in this story). Tirek steals everypony's magic, imprisons royalty in the pits of tartarus, plans to rule Equestria (possibly killed a pony and his old master, didn't kill anypony in the show) sentenced to eternity in tartarus. Although that hasn't happened yet in this story line so i can over look that. I can even discount all of that and say that maybe thats not how things went or even happened in this story's universe. But Shendu terrorizes, slaughters, and eats over 200 ponies and attempts to murder the princesses while working for The Nightmare...gets a free pass? Thats the not even a tough pill to swallow...thats a boulder to swallow (and not Mauds "boulder", more like Holders boulder) It just doesn't seem to fall in line with Equestrian justice/punishment fitting the crime situation, Celestia just basically said she doesn't give a rats ass about her subjects in any way. "Kill 200+ plus of my citizens with families who are probably scarred for life at their loss and such...meh, enjoy your new life! Oh and i still don't trust you Wrath for doing my parents bidding, he's your problem now! Ta-ta!" i mean really?! Thats what bugs me about this story, i don't mind the story shifting from Wrath to Shendu now being a main focus point/character...but its the fact that punishment in no way fits the crime and is in fact...non existent, there was no punishment at all. This might of worked better if Shendu just, terrorized a village, ate that dragon and MAYBE one pony...a bad pony, and TRIED to attack the princesses. Instead of committing such a heinous crime and getting off scott free. i dunno man...i'm not completely turned off to this story...but the direction it's going is definitely shaking my faith in it.
6573097 Thank you.
6558045 6571720 so i havn't read farther yet... I must know. Was anything done about all the deaths or did the author ignore us
Molting is the shedding of dead skin, fur, feathers, etc. It does not and should not hurt at all.
And I have to agree with others here--- your Celestia's moral center is completely out of whack.
6554969 the author specified that the damn thing RUNS ON EVIL.
6868693 No, he said the creature was MADE OF pure MALEVIOLENCE and MAGIC, is CARNIVOROUS, and has a preference for pony flesh, because tastes sweeter. This was reasoned by his TRIBAL SOCIETY, that it has a preference for innocence.
Sorry to blow up, but it's like you were manipulating the truth. It is an intelligent predator that seeks food, and the ability to best it's competition, much like we humans are/were; kind of why we're the apex predator of the planet... Darwinism: one HELLUVA drug!
Mythic Haze am I the only one that thinks this sounds like a drug?
6571720 Celestia probably suffers from Black and White Insanity, it wouldn't really surprise me considering what we see from the comics.
Ok so here's how I'm looking at it. The ponies being herbavors and having a herd mentality generally view death as the ultimate taboo that not apparently not even their leaders (who must send their soldiers to war) are comfortable with. As such they if there is ANY way to avoid death it is not just the preferred option but the only option. So they don't value the mind or body in the same sense as us. At least that is what I'm inferring from celestia's and the old alicorn kings actions.
Take wrath from what we've seen wrath was summoned from another world to fight in a war against a more brutal foe. The king did not understand wrath's nature and could only judge him by his standards.
Now we or at least most Americans value the mind over the body. Most free countries are like this because we value freedom of expression, speach and so on. Therefore we are appalled when something like the base nature, personality, or a defining trait are destroyed.
Am I interpreting that right?
I have never been more disgusted with Celestia than I am now.
8069909
How so?
8419458
Sorry it took me so long to answer this but I had to reread the chapter so I could properly answer your question. Even then I'm not sure I'll get this right.
First, I assume that I had been referring to Celestia's idea to turn the Maiden into a fucking pony and following though on said plan. If this is indeed what I had been talking about, then I was upset that Celestia thought it was perfectly fine to change the nature of a being doing as it did because it was surviving.
If it was that much of a problem, kill it. Yeah, I get this is pony land and all but that's eerily similar to the mind-screw bull that Discord pulls in the actual series.
Intentions are literally inconsequential at this point; they stopped mattering when Celestia thought that ponies were such a perfect race.
Hell, she even said she intended for this to happen. Would've been a lot easier for her to seal it away like she does literally everything else. Of course, unless there was a reason she didn't do so that I'm forgetting. Ya know, aside from the fact that she wanted to save the bloody thing.
8069909
Ho boy you obviously haven't read Diaries of a Madman by whatmustIdo then.
(edit)
Just then I read the next two chapters oh boy I already wanted to string her up for a barbecue but let me be the first one to get the briquettes ready.
