Spellhart the unicorn, self-styled "greatest wizard in Equestria", wants nothing so desperately as to be an alicorn like Luna and Celestia. When his masterpiece of magic goes terribly wrong, and the changed Spellhart finds himself inexplicably NOT a statue, it's up to him to pick up the pieces of his old life and find a new place for himself, with the help of his young students and the Princesses. A story of Equestrian history, Canterlot politics, personal discovery, and pie.

I'm putting the author's notes here because I don't want to pad the story. Let me get this out of the way right at the beginning: Spellhart is not and will not ever become an alicorn (except maybe in an evil alternate universe where he's the villain). His spell failed, end of story, and I have no intention of turning this into an alicorn OC fic. He IS ageless and has a broken-off horn stub but is otherwise a normal pegasus.

That being said, this IS a story about alicorns. Spellhart is in a unique position to interact with the Princesses over a very long period of time that is basically untouched in canon. It's a great opportunity to explore sides of Luna and Celestia we don't see very often as well as Equestrian history and the day-to-day affairs of Canterlot.

Nice. I'm liking that we've got a story about someone who's actively trying to become an alicorn, but who is not a maniacal supervillain or tragic victim or other such standard flawed character.

And perhaps he'll even decide that trading his ability to cast magic for immortality isn't such a bad deal. It's not like pegasi and earth ponies have horrible lives. :)
