I think we've successfully gotten very, very real. I mean, come on! I thought Terra was a complete, total, selfless, heartless, bitch queen with no soul what so ever. And now I find out that Titan needs to die a horrible, painful deatih with all sorts of body parts sheared off of him. I can see Twilight still cares a ton for Celesia though! That's good. I want to see more of that.

Wow... Terra was under the effects of the same spell used on Rainbow the entire time. Impressive, though still doesn't fit how she was able to fight his control with the shard of darkness (unless it was a shard of discord?)

So... we have Earth Ponies, Pegasi and Unicorns, and their 'epic' versions, arc, eraterus and courscare.

Why must you make me sympathize with the very characters whose deaths I would have cheered over a chapter ago?

It's the same spell as used on Dash. Just because the spell goes away when they act as they are forced too, doesn't mean the spell isn't still there waiting for them to step out of line. It's a pavlovian conditioning spell, it forces you to think the way the user wants you to think.

Just as Dash was quite effectively turned via the spell, so too can I see Terra as under the same effects. You can see bits and pieces of an alternate, dare I say true personality sneak out here and there in dialogue, but potentially hundreds of years under the effect of the spell may well have corrupted her irredeemably.

Titan's version was probably a bit more subtle than Nihilius's insanity, but I think the end results would be much the same.

Ten days is far too long. Fantastic chapter regardless.

Can you truly kill Order, or Chaos? Seems like it was Harmony's plan to put the power to make that decision in pony hands, by taking herself out of the equation. She may very well win the Immortal Game by virtue of turning the pieces into the players.

Brilliant. There was no way I could've seen Harmony coming (aside from Terra's hints in earlier chapters, but that would have been the craziest Wild Mass Guess ever).

Awesome chapter, but one detail kinda bugged me. All the other Alicorn's blades have names related to the cosmos, how does "sovereign" fit into this? Personally I think that "Zeitgeist" would be more fitting, but to each his own I suppose.

604781 Let's see... as they are ideas, it seems practically impossible to do so. However, they are only avatars or embodiments of those concepts, and as such can be destroyed.

You can't kill an idea, but you can kill something that breaths and moves. If you killed Discord or Titan, they'd die sure... but the concept wouldn't. Also, depending on equestrian magical principle, they'd probably be reembodied. I say that simply from extrapolation of the "Elements of Harmony" being embodied by a sextet of ponies.

By that same token, Celestia and Luna are also embodiments of concepts, in their cases day and night, or light and darkness.

I think that so far, despite all the awesome I've soaked in from this story... the part that makes it so dear to me is that it shows that even the beings that embody concepts themselves are still flawed and human (since I lack the correct term...) and by that same token they are not beyond redemption. Terra, the alpha bish and ancient monster... was controlled in the same way Dash was. Rewritten, manipulated, and while at times she may have acted as herself while doing evil... she's not beyond forgiveness.

Titan, he lost a son and a wife. Celestia did everything because she wanted to protect the pony race, Luna has yet to show anything new... well, maybe Discord. Not sure about him. Twilight/Nihlus and Rainbow Dash both have more sympathy than anger to be laden with... it's truly unique. Ironically, it's something I only wish I could put in my own ideas.

Young Terra reminding me strongly of Fluttershy just makes me want to hate the king of the world more for making her into that

It could just be that Empyrean named his blade Sovereign since he was Prince of Ponykind. The Sovereign of all Ponies. Don't really know his mindset since we technically didn't get to know much about him other than the son of Order/Titan and brother to Terra stuff.

I'd been thinking on similar lines. After all, it can be assumed that chaotic things happened without Discord around, and Titan and Empyrian's absence didn't rob the world of Order or (dominance? Rulership? Society? Empyrian is a bit of a mystery). the sun and moon existed before Celestia and Luna (perhaps as part of Titan's order).
So perhaps killing them wouldn't have irreversible cosmic consequences.

I'm not convinced that Discord = Chaos though, so much as Discord = Anti-Harmony. If a seperate Chaos character popped up, It'd blow my mind.

I agree on how well written all the gods are, but a rather annoying part of me suggests that that could be because both audience and writer are human.

I was thinking about another story recently and the fact that the creation myth created by the author had no bearing on the current narrative and added very little to the story.

Then AB come along and fleshes out this epic and engaging world that just blows my mind. World building itself isn't terribly difficult but your ability to reveal and pace out the dramatic tension is fantastic. Grrr..... so jealous.

Not necessarily a sequel since this story seems pretty well laid out as an individual standalone work, but do you have any new ideas for new stories? I'd love to read more from you, though I'd certainly understand taking a break from ponies.

Since you asked: here's some comments...

Overall I like this story, but I followed it from the beginning very hesitantly. At it's start I figured it would just be another "War in Equestria" fic that had been flying around at the time. I can see now that this fic has certainly found it's own style and you as an author has done well to avoid all the usual cliches. I'll follow this to the end certainly.

One thing I will comment on is the length. When I see that a new chapter of "The Immortal Game" has come out, I of course want to read it. Then I see another one of my tracked fics has released a new chapter and I want to read that instead of yours. The reason for this is this other fic only has 2,000 words in one chapter while yours has 15,000. Some of my other favorite writers do the exact same thing. The absolute worse thing anyone has done is release 5 chapters at once with 15,000 words each.

I always tend to read that shorter fic first. Then I just start putting off your fic again and again. Sometimes it's been a week or two before I actually read the chapter. Sometimes I just skim a chapter just so I can get it off my tracked list. It's obviously too late for this story to stop doing that but if you ever write something else just remember this. I'm pretty sure a lot of other readers might agree.

I actually had a conversation with a collaborator about this last night.

I don't like how long some of these chapters turn out either. But each chapter has to follow a certain structure, and with so many characters that typically demands 10k words. Lately, it's been demanding even more.

Ideal length for me is 6k, but I've lain out the chapter outline for a twenty six chapter fic that only has two main characters, and each of them will probably be between 3 and 4.5k words each. That should be nice.

You don't speak for me when you say that; I for one prefer long word count chapters. With a long chapter, you can really become emerged within the story with fewer interruptions. Of course, when I sit down to read a regular novel, I tend to read the whole thing in one sitting, so I'm probably just the exception.
