Y'know, you should probably politely ask the source before considering writing anything based off of it, yes?

And maybe not delete the original author's works when they come to you, yes?

I did not delete that comment. As for permission - this is a fanfic. Anyone asking Hasbro for permission?

An unapproved sequel that completely ruins the tone the first story established. Yeah, defiantly a downvote on this one.

Ruins or follows, a matter of personal tastes. Judging by the comments, it seems I'm not the only one whom the original left in a state of cold rage. Of course I don't mind the downvote. I hate this story myself.

Have you read fimfiction rules?

[...]
Stories with barely any punctuation. We don't judge stories on their content, but stories without a basic level of grammar will be failed

Stories that plagiarise other stories

Stories containing copyrighted song lyrics.
[...]

So if it were to be reported as plagiarism(which, since is an unauthorized sequel, it automatically is) it would be taken down, as by the rules of this page. I would recommend you to ask for permision in case anyone eventually reports this case of plagiarism.

I think you really misunderstand what plagiarism is.

the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own. source

First, original author takes full credit for his text, mentioned and linked in the description, so I'm not presenting his work as my own. Next, all events are my own, the characters and the universe are (tm) Hasbro, the setting is my own, I merely reference someone's work in the implied backstory. Which part of Dubs Rewatcher's work exactly am I presenting as my own ?

And even if I failed on these accounts, still, subverting intended message of the original, and overexposure of its shortcomings, with intention of creative criticism, is known as Satire and falls under Fair Use haven of the Copyright Law.

Doing a satire and publishing it without permission of the owner of the original material is ilegal in most countries, as is writting and making money using anything that reference directly any work not your own without permision or a deal with the original works owner.

You could try to do what you did in this story, use work of another author that is alive, create something that bases everything on his work, call it a satire and see if you aree not in the courts for plagiarism once it gets published...

Then again I don't care.

I just warned you because no one deserves to get his/her/its story taken down for something so little as asking permision, it happened to me once on other fic-site just because a chapter had the same name and my interpretation of something was the same as another's author, and I wouldn't wish it to anyone. So good luck.

Hope you have a nice day.

Oh well, thanks then.

Copyright and legal definition of plagiarism is one thing, overzealous moderators and overprotective authors is another - like that girl who claimed all characters that are wolves are infringing on her rights because her character is a wolf. Or these ISPs that sent personal data of an "infringer" unasked, when reporters provoked them by sending fake takedown request on a work that was 400 years old and clearly in public domain.

Safe havens of fair use are different between various countries, but satire - in particular, satire on the "infringed upon" subject, as opposed to satire exploiting someone's work to attack yet a different subject is definitely protected under the US law, which applies to the FimFiction servers.

Of course I could get sued still. I could get sued for infringing upon Shakespeare's works, despite never writing anything resembling them and them being in public domain. Anyone can be sued for anything. Of course I'd win the lawsuit, in case it wouldn't be thrown out of court first, but then - such is law. Trial by itself is not considered a punishment.

But, well, thanks for caring.

I think this story upset people on all kinds of different levels. Though for me it's just vexing that I can see a few ways to make it better, more heart wrenching... And that is why I will never write dark/grimdark stories. I can very well understand why you had to get it out, and it might be just me, but it feels like you should have explored the concept more.

The mental deconstruction of a character that is the quintessential template of a hero/role model is interesting... I would have greatly appreciated seeing that moment of no return where just the bedtime was left to tether Twilight to sanity and 'explain' all the horrendous things she had done... I would place that moment at the death of Twilight's foal, simply because I know what a child can bring even to the most bleak of cases... I'll leave it at that.

Ramblings aside this made me feel something, I say that can be considered a win... even though you seem to loathe this thing. Heck it makes me wanna take what you have and write the darkest thing ever... but alas I wont.

Oh god, I forgot about this

I still hold by what I said in my original (somehow deleted) comment: I really am very sorry my story made you feel this way. It certainly wasn't my intention.

I've been paying attention to your work for quite some time. That time being 2 months ago. I lose track of time. Easily.

Regardless, I'm amused by your stories. I'm amused by how you tackle some themes and make them unravel. You're a clever one, one can tell. The stories are simple, in a way, but so much more complex when I try to analyze their progression. Funny thing that... you're as interesting as two other people I know.

I'm also amused by how well you're taking the overly negative feedback on this story when it is clear that you didn't break any rules. I don't know which is best, reading your stories or reading your replies to some rather unsavory comments left on them. But I'm digressing; I just started this comment in the hopes of asking you to share your motivation behind this one.

Oh, and to leave a comment pertaining to this story as well: heart-wrenching, simply put. I love the fact that you took a ridiculous story and spun it the other way around. Reminds me of myself when I used to write in here... Although this story is done 'n done, judging by your personal feelings toward it, I'd like to ask you if, hypothetically of course, you were to continue it towards either the seemingly inevitable end of the tunnel or towards the light at the end of it, how'd that go.

Will be keeping an eye out for more from you for sure.

The "author's note" in the beginning pretty much explains my motivations.

Most of my stories go like this: they buzz in my head, make my mind explore their possibilities and options, nag me to be written down, to get out. This buzz only goes quiet once the story is out there for everyone to read. It's usually a rather pleasant if distracting experience - like I can't get any other work done right if I have "a story in me" - instead of focusing on the task at hand, I just keep going back to the story world. Still, if the events, the story world, the characters are fun, that's nothing overly bad.
In this case it was an especially unpleasant experience. I was literally fuming and brooding and couldn't enjoy anything, every experience spoiled by the events that inspired this. And I just knew the one way to get rid of this feeling - pour it out. It's a vent-fic at its finest, the very definition of the concept. I didn't get the vent-fics and vent-art before; I couldn't understand their authors until this happened to me. I'm by no way proud of it and I mean the "don't read this story" I started it with. Out of the 19 downvotes one is mine.

This upset me very deeply and that's why I gave it an upvote.
