An Unexpected Letter

An Unexpected Letter

By: Cameron a.k.a. marineproductions100

Ponyville, Hooves' resident.

Dinky walked through the door with a long and heavy sigh. She levitated her saddlebag onto the couch in the living room. She hopped onto the couch and used her saddlebag as a pillow. "Home sweet home." Dinky said.

Ain't that the truth? So what are we doing with mommy today? A voice asked.

"Make muffins with mommy and play some board games with her. Maybe mommy will have some interesting stories to talk about today." Dinky replied.

How do you plan on welcoming her home?

"A big hug. That always makes mommy happy." Dinky smiled.

Everytime her mother came home, Dinky would always welcome her with a hug. Derpy always embraced the hugs that Dinky would send her way. She'd always cherish each hug like it was her last. The warm smiles always kept each other happy. The warm smiles always reminded them that no matter what happened in the past stayed in the past. It would always remind them that all they'll ever need is each other. A memory started to creep in, in the back of Dinky's mind.

...........

memory

Hooves' resident, night.

Dinky is sitting on the couch waiting for Derpy to come home. Staring at the ceiling and tracing lines with her eyes. Every once in a while, make some circles. The sound of the door opening caught Dinky's attention and she jumped off the couch to greet her mother.

Once she met her mother, Dinky saw tears streaming down both of Derpy's cheeks. Derpy wiped the tears off of her face and smiled. "Hey Dinky. How was your day?" Derpy asked.

"It was good." Dinky replied but not in her cheery time of voice. "Mommy, why are you crying?" Dinky trotted up to her mother and gave her a big hug.

Derpy returned the hug and held Dinky tightly. "Nothings wrong. Mommy just had a bad day at work today."

"What happened?"

"Just some rude ponies. That's it." Derpy sniffled and sighed. "Now, how about we make some muffins? Sound good muffin?"

"That sounds great mommy."

"All right. How about we head into the kitchen and get started?"

Dinky stopped hugging her mother so she could walk into the kitchen with her. "Mommy?" Dinky stopped Derpy in her tracks.

Derpy turned her head to face Dinky. "Yes muffin."

Dinky wrapped her mother into another hug. "I love you mommy, no matter what, I'll always love you." Tears started to sting Dinky's eyes.

"Oh muffin." Derpy returned the hug. "I love you too, muffin. Forever and always no matter what."

"Always and forever?"

"Always and forever muffin."

reality

*knock knock*

Dinky snapped out of her daydreaming and got up to answer the door. Dinky opened the door with her magic and saw a stallion mail pony standing at the doorway. "Dinky Hooves?" The pony asked.

"Yes." Dinky replied.

The mail pony sighed and pulled out a letter from the saddlebag that was on his back. "I-I have a letter for y-you." He stuttered.

"Oh okay? I wonder why mommy didn't bring it herself? She's a mail pony too. Do you work with her?" Dinky asked.

"Yes. Your mother is a magnificent pony." The stallion replied.

Dinky levitated the letter in front of her and peeled the top off with her mouth. She pulled out a note and started to read it out loud.

Dear residents of the hooves' family,
.
This letter is to inform you that there was an accident at the Ponyville Post office today at 1:17 PM. I regret to inform you that your mother was opening up packages of heavy weight sets. The boxes were stacked on top of each other and the tower gave weight and your mother was injured severely and her injuries were very extensive. She was rushed to the Ponyville Hospital and arrived at 1:24PM. By this time your mother has already passed. We will continue to send checks from the Department of Labor for-

Dinky couldn't read anymore and dropped the note and envelope. The world seemed to slow down and it became very difficult for her to breathe. "M-Mommy's.......Mommy's dead?" Dinky asked as her voice quivered and her hooves shook. She looked up at the mail pony as the first tears streamed from her eyes. The stallion closed his eyes and nodded. Tears started to flow down both cheeks. "M-Mommy?" Dinky fell to her knees and started to sob the name over and over until the mail pony, a father by instinct, came over and put a hoof on her shoulder.

"She's gone." Dinky sobbed.

"Not true." Dinky looked up at the stallion with a confused look. "Your mother maybe gone from the world. But she's always in your heart along with everypony else you'll ever love. If you love your mom, then she's never truly gone."

"Where d-do I go? What a-am I supposed to do w-witho-out her? S-She was everything to me."

"I'll take you to a place where there are many children of your age. And good ponies that'll find you good homes."

Dinky got up to her knees. "Okay."

The stallion walked out of the house and stood out the doorway. Waiting for Dinky. Dinky started to walk out the door until a cold breeze went up the back of her neck. It felt like hooves were wrapping Dinky into a hug. "Always and forever muffin." A voice whispered into her ear.

Dinky turned her head to see nopony. Just her living room. "M-Mommy?"

Edited. (thanks to "Bringer of the ends". You deserve *brohoof* that)

Author's Note:

A little sad story that I thought of and went along with it. I hope you guys enjoyed. I may make another story related to this and if not oh well. Thank you for reading and have a good day or night.

PS: I'd like to thank "Bringer of the ends" for helping me re-make a couple paragraphs and putting his thoughts out there(unlike everyone else with cocky remarks). Thank you once again *brohoof*

PPS: I changed my mind about making a story related to this one.

3568297 I'm glad you enjoyed the story, thank you.

PS: I think they disliked it because I killed their favorite pony.

PPS: She's mine too.

I suspect pacing issues like Apache suggested are the source of your downvotes. I won't be voting down myself as the rest of the story is good enough, but I have to admit I started laughing when I read the letter. It was just too quick and too blunt. I'm reminded more of darkly humorous satire like the RPG "Paranoia" or Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy than anything honestly tragic.

Gives me an idea, actually. Have to add it to the list of things I'll likely never get to.

Okay that was a little... Fast... I was like "What the flip did I just read???" after I finished the letter... Are you planning on adding more to this story or are you going to let it lye?
Also (Sorry if this comes off a little cocky...) here's a little re-make of the letter that I made to make it sound more sentimental :pinkiesad2:

Someone else's turn to try to make this story just a little bit better (As in someone else do a few paragraphs maybe?) ! Next! :rainbowwild: (If you, the author, find this comment offending in any way, please ask me to remove it and I will A.S.A.P.)

P.S. Why are there so many reads but only 3 comments??? Doesn't this story need some, I don't know, feedback? (Aka I thought this story was good. Here's a Favorite!)

3581806 Actually, I hope you don't mind. But would it be okay if I used your letter. No I don't plan on anymore chapters. This a one chapter story. Just like my last three. Except for the next one I'm working on. (which will come out by this week) I don't take offense. You are simply putting your ideas out and I don't blame you for it. (doesn't mean others can do the same!) thank you for your re-make.

Well if I could find that dang reply button! Yes you can have it! That's why I even made it in the first place! :pinkiehappy: (Well I finally found the reply button AFTER I finished this)
