This is a short story I've been thinking about. It shouldn't come as a surprise that Nightmare Moon, in addition to Princess Luna herself, is a dreamwalker. One night, she happens upon a filly bereft of companionship. She intends to walk away but something about the filly attracts her attention.

Huh, interesting. So the young filly was really the Nightmare and was just rekindling Luna's hatred towards Celestia after so long a time? Or am I reading this all wrong.

Yes, the filly is Nightmare Moon's Nightmare (or Nightmare Moon herself if you prefer). She is essentially dreamwalking into her own dreams. She is witnessing a Nightmare that is in both her dreams and waking reality. The main point is that nightmares might not solely exist in our dreams. They could be a by-product of life experiences.

I am at a loss for words...
I will attempt to describe this as best I can. So rarely does a story resonate me so as this one did, a diamond in the rough considering how rarely i put effot in the reading of short stories. The emotions, the many incredibly colorful emotions, were amazingly portrayed throughout the entirety of the story. The preconception of another apprentice-of-luna story shattered at the end to reveal an absolutely beautiful ending that I never expected to see. You have painted Luna's horrific time on the moon better than even the show itself, congratulations and fantastic who. These are the sort of stories that I want to see more of and I'm sorry you have received so little attention.
9.4/10, absolutely fantastic story. :pinkiesad2:

Thank You! It really resonated with you that much? There are certain parts of the story that I felt were too fast-paced. However, I tried my best to capture Nightmare Moon/Luna's Nightmare as well as I could. In the end, I think I managed that tidbit.

Princess Luna did have a horrific time on the moon in her place of banishment. I figured that she would still have the ability to dreamwalk. Well...she also danced but I couldn't fit that into the story.
