If all goes well, a week from today I will be officially swearing my life to the United States Navy and to protect it thereof. I won't be shipping out for another year or so, so not very much is going to change. Although I have a host of story ideas and OCs I'm never going to use so if anyone wants to know more just PM me.

I don't know much regarding military ranks, and have been pretty much dodging around them in this story. However, I've come to the point where I needed to look up military ranks and how they function. I didn't need to know everything regarding them, just the ranks from lowest (Private) to highest (General of the Army, or Five Star General). See, the idea was to do some world building around Equestria's military.

Is the basic earth pony military unit infantry, or cavalry?

Please overthink as much as possible, then justify your answers.

The basic unit is the Element (2 Ponies), commanded by an Able Legionary (PFC equivlent). 2 Elements make a Lance (4 Ponies), commanded by a Lancer (corporal equivalent). 2 Lances plus a command Element make an Optio (10 Ponies), the smallest normal tactical maneuver unit, commanded by an Option (sergeant equivalent).

The EUP has always intrigued me. A military establishment in Equestria. What does that entail? The ranks? The training? The operations it oversees? In the show, at least to where I've seen (season 6), it shows a little. That the military does exist, have ranks and a standard chain of command. But what exactly, then, does this chain wrap around?

I'm finally back in the states! After 7 months in sh*tty Afghanistan, I've finally made it back. And everything is an episode of nightmare before Christmas.

Hello! It's been a good long while since I've posted here, lest any of you seen any activity from me. To put it as you may know, I am in the military. And on top of that - submarines. Not much time to do things when you go out for months at a time without any sort of internet connection. So, how have ya'll been? Any questions about anything or want to strike up a conversation?
