Thanks to an extremely generous friend, I have managed to acquire accommodations for Bonycon this year!
Apologies for the overdue post, but as soon as I got back from Bronycon I came down with a bug and was laid up for the week.
Anyway, first con ever and it was pretty sweet and pretty much what I expected.
Gonna give you guys a highlight reel then get onto the souvenirs I bought from the vendor's hall.
Let's break it down!
So, I have been a very busy person. Below the cut is info on BronyCon and on my upcoming novel. If you're concerned about my lack of pony words and/or blogging, I promise I will be back to that soon. I just have about ten projects going on at once right now.
Well, so far, I have met:
Charlemange, of Snowdrop fame; he sat next to me on the plane ride over here. It was cool chatting to him.
Four people on the light rail whose names already elude me. Sorry, guys, it was nice chatting to you, but apparently my brain was already zombifying. One of them was an artist who printed out a ton of Twilight's Secret Shipfic Folder cards, one had pony tattoos, the other two seemed happy to be here.
Well, this time last week I was headed to Day 2 of BronyCon. I have to say, those three days were some of the fastest of my life. I went to Baltimare Baltimore unsure of what to expect. In case I didn't enjoy BronyCon, I had backup plans: the USS Constellation, Hampton NHS, the US Naval Academy. But in the end, I was at BronyCon from the 10:25 Opening Ceremonies Friday morning to the 4:30 Closing Ceremonies Sunday afternoon. I had a blast!!!
Things that I did:
BronyCon was amazing. Simple.
I've wanted to go for some time, but never before has it been possible. The fact that my (ongoing) road trip put me in the right part of the country at the right time is one of the best things to happen on this trip so far.
During the "Advanced Writing" panel at Bronycon 2016, I said that the "rules" about what qualities made fiction good had changed over the centuries. One example I probably gave (I'm not going to watch the whole video now to check) was that characters didn't have arcs before Shakespeare. Today, screenwriters take it as gospel that a story must be about a character changing. For most of the time between Homer and Shakespeare, change
I probably should've announced this more than a few hours before I head off.
assuming no disaster happens along the way, I will be there at Bronycon to meet YOU, my hundreds of loyal fans! I rejected all offers of hosting fancy panels so I could spend more time with the ordinary ponyfolk.
how will you get in touch with me? I dunno. magic and coincidence, I guess.
And there isn't a pair of updates for any Fluttershy stories sitting in my 'to edit' folder right now. No. It is not as though, now that someone is finished with grad school, they will be finishing off their stories as a thank you to the love and patience of some of the best fans in the world. Absolutely nothing of the sort.
And there most certainly will not be anyone associated with any of the above attending BronyCon this year!
That's right! WE'RE HEADED TO THE BIGGEST RODEO OF THEM ALL!
No... see it's—No, DEFINITELY not—oh, for buck's sake, that's not even a real rodeo, and that's disgusting.
BRONYCON. It's Bronycon5, and for the first time in 4.5 years, I'm going back. If you're looking to meet/spear/suplex/deride/heckle/praise/converse with me, you've got three options:
1. Please don't spear/suplex me. It won't put me down for the count, and I have a downright MEAN DDT.
How's it going, guise. Just a quick blog post to mention a few things. First off, the big thing on the horizon is that I'm heading to Bronycon imminently. Like, once the sun actually reaches the horizon I mentioned. If anyone happens to read this and is heading to Baltimore, too, see if you can find me hanging out in Sofas and Quills.
This will be the third year on a row at Bronycon for me and my family. I'll be the one in a off Whitevsafari hat carrying a small black camera bag. I may have a lanky sidekik with me. Come hi.
I'll be going to as many writing workshops as possible along with the PABS panel. If anyone has an interest, I will try to post my schedule in this blog tomorrow which is today.
