Turmoil struck Equestria! Tremors from deep within the earth cause the whole nation to be shook wide awake. Nopony knows where they come from, nopony is able to predict where the next one hits. Though in Canterlot Castle, there is only one soothsayer who has an eye for them. Only one soothsayer tries to make sense out of the mess. That soothsayer is nopony else then Twilight Sparkle.

The unicorn anthrony can't believe the quest that the goddesses of the sun and moon have given to her. That she has to travel to a place where nopony has ever been before in order to stop the terror of the ground. If she doesn't, the land can turn into nothing more but a barren wasteland, extinct from all life. Tasked with a impossible task, the desperate search begins.

A search that is not just about finding the origin of it all, as well as five other beings that should accompany her. Along the way is nothing certain and the anthronies will get to know one another. Perhaps even more than they would have liked. Different breeds and races mixed together for one quest only have to set their differences aside and work together. If not, the land's darkest forces just might get their hands on them. Dark Witches and those living on the other side of the ocean are always lurking for their next victim. Chances are that they all get more than they bargained for.

This is an Equestria that took a different turn when Discord was released. The mane 6 were corrupted by chaos and were defeated. Without them, Cadance and Shining Armor had no chance at defeating the returning King Sombra and became his obedient crystal ponies; Shining being his 'avatar'. And Luna. Poor Luna. Her sister lost to the new king, Luna found herself succumbing to an ancient memory.

Now the survivors of Equestria live in Vanhoover: a city where great technology grows to bring about the life of the survivors and the changed changelings. It is protected by Empress Scootaloo, Grand Inquisitor Sweetie: Leader of the Sweetie Sisters of Battle, and Kommisar General Bloom: Head of technological development. All three lived through a tragic past and do all they can to fight against the encroaching powers of chaos, darkness, and crystals to bring just a little more light to the lives of those they protect and watch over.

Equestria has been sealed off from the rest of the world by means of an ancient spell cast by Luna, but when one universe has four and its relatives have three, a fourth must rise, and its ancient age and powers over pure darkness ensure that this will not be a simple firecracker in a sea of gunpowder. Although light isn't the only thing can be corrupted.

Based on my good (and unwilling ) friend Gates McCloud's comic series CMC 10k. He wanted me to point out that this is not handcanon to his comic series and is my personal spin-on. Think of it as an alternate reality. If you don't follow the string theory, then the idea of alternate realities should be easy.

(Yeesh. Too many characters to implement. There is Sombra and Nightmare Moon and Trixie and Discord and so many more...help me. I believe there might be slice of life moments while I write, but this is too outworldly to warrant the tag. There are also minor elements of comedy here and there as I find a way to place them in)

When Twilight first began her experiments in trying to figure out better ways to access the Aether, the realm of magic and souls just outside their physical realm, she did not expect to make significant progress. After all, pony kind has been trying to find out the answer to that line of thinking for centuries.

When she felt herself connect to the other realm Twilight accidentally manipulated its energies in a different sort of way. The Aether bent to her will much easier than before. Getting just a bit too excited, Twilight played with the Aether a tad too freely and the reality-bending powers of the outer realm sucked her into its bottomless depths.

Fortunately Twilight was able to direct herself back to the material realm using the closest, and brightest, soul she could find as an anchor. And the second she looked up at the skull of the skeleton sitting on top of a golden throne, she knew life was about to get more... interesting.
