A new project, and an explanation!

    Hey folks,

Alternate title for this blog post: I'm Doing a Thing (and I'm looking for help)

I don't think anyone is surprised that my pony writing has been on a bit of a hiatus for a while, and my presence on this site is mostly to lurk-and-read rather than finish my long-delayed stories. What you might not know, though, is what I've been doing instead of pony writing.

Radio Everypony Ru Interview! Epic new story about to drop! · 1:06am Mar 23rd, 2019

In (formerly Soviet but now independent) Russia, cute pony boops you!
Vera by EnergyFrost

Hey folks,

I recently had a chance to be part of probably the most professional, slick pony interview I've ever done, with the good folks at Radio Everypony.ru! These guys are at the core of the Russian pony scene, and over the course of about two hours we discussed everything from politics, war, and of course stories about ponies! You can view the entire interview on their YouTube channel here:

The intro is in Russian, but the English interview starts at the 2 minute mark and goes on for most of their insanely well-produced show. Like, seriously, I have done interviews with FM radio stations that weren't set up as well as this was. Big shout out to Slaaneshi and everyone at Radio Everypony Ru! (Even if you made me stay awake until 4 a.m.!)

If you want to listen to me babble for a while about Afghanistan, shooting at people (or not!), how I write stories, marvel at the weird backward letters in the Cyrillic alphabet, and be amazed at how badly I mangle an inspirational saying about writing by my great friend GaPJaxie, give it a click!

---------------------------------

Okay, part two! New story inbound!

Some of you guys may remember that early last year I posted a blog about a backlog of stories that I wrote as part of the Writeoff competition, but never got around to actually publishing because I felt like they needed more polish, or they just weren't ready for prime time. At the time, I had several stories in the hopper, and I managed to get two of them out: Severe Weather Appreciation Week and Twilight Sparkle at the Gate of Heavenly Peace. But there was a third story too. It was a story I fell in love with while I was writing, and when the contest was over I just didn't feel right pushing it out into the world until it was well and truly done. And then GaPJaxie (now the villain!) whispered a corrupting little thought in my ear: "Let it breathe. Make it a full story."

So, that's what I did. The original story was about 8k words. The new one is a full novel. Friends, I think this is the best story I've ever written, and when I start publishing it next week, I hope you'll enjoy reading it just as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Why do ponies dream? Why do we all seem to dream the same dreams?

What if we started to dream new things?

Discord said he just wanted to make our dreams more interesting. Add some spice to our boring nocturnal lives. Nothing dangerous – just a bit of excitement to talk about in the mornings.

"Stop worrying so much, Twilight Sparkle," he said. "After all, dreams never hurt anypony."

How I wish he’d been right.

Oooo...this sounds like something good.

Well, that sounds rather intriguing. :)

I'm glued to the interview. At first, I thought it was going to be a critique of American wars over the last few decades, but it settled down into writing pretty well.

As with pretty much everything else you write, I'm looking forward very much to your new prose!

So what you're saying is, you haven't been working on "The Adventuring Type". :trollestia:

#hype
(I'm really hoping Land of the Blind continues someday; it was my favorite in that writeoff and I still think fondly of that first read)

That cover image is haunting in just the right way!

I'll get to it, I swear!

Severe Weather Appreciation Week and Twilight Sparkle at the Gates of Heavenly Peace are truly excellent pieces imo, so suffice to say, I am HYPED by the idea of anything somehow even better!

Was a pleasure, man.

Is there anyone else you'd like us to interview?

orp

The new story sounds like it's in the general vein of A Once and Future Darkness. And I freaking love that one.

I'm really hoping Land of the Blind continues someday;

This. Very much this. Poor Foxglove... Going on 4 years (at time of writing) of tethercatting.

5031972

That story is amazing.

If there's any doubters out there: The Archetypist scored a gold to beat the story that would become Administrative Angel, which is undeniably one of my very best. It earned its win. It's definitely more than just CIG who thinks highly of this one.

I'm intensely curious what got added to make it become significantly longer than its starting point. Hype acquired!

What day & time will you post it?

5032851

It may change, but probably this Thursday around 11am EST. Thereabouts.

Thank you for your interview!
That was awesome!

Thank you also for answering my questions)

Thumbs up for all the answers and— why!—a new fabulous story to read. :rainbowkiss:
