    Remember Obscure Spike Shippings?

Remember when obscure Spike shippings that were met with middling reviews and a lot of confused interest popped out of this account like every few months?

    Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Remember Spike stories that felt like they could have an entire pop-punk album written based on them?

Bronycon 2k18 Wrap-Up · 1:38am Aug 1st, 2018

Holy shiznit, that was a wild weekend.

So, let me preface this by saying that I had never been to Bronycon before. I've been to a lot of other cons, but this was a brand new experience for me. Thousands of people, meeting online friends for this first time, getting in a moshpit at bronypalooza... this was an unforgettable experience.

Let's break this down, pictures and everything.

(Note: I uploaded these pics with my phone, so if they're all facing the wrong way or whatever, that's why. Also, just so you don't have to ask, I'm the tall dude with the blonde hair and black hat in all of these.)

1. So, first and foremost, I have to give a huge shoutout and a metric buttload of love to my long-time fandom friend, NickyD. Here's a picture of me and him on the first day. I was exhausted from being awake all night packing and then being awake all day from the plane rides, but I was super happy on the inside, trust me.

This guy got us the hotel room and was a complete bro the entire time. He also was amazing and drew me a picture of EqG Rarity wearing an Oakland Raiders jersey, who just so happen to be my favorite football team. Amazing! I love you, bro.

2. So, as I told most of you relentlessly beforehand, I had a panel at the con. It was about writing romance and shipping and all that good stuff. Anyhow, it went WAY better than I anticipated. The room was packed with people, they loved my jokes and humor, and I feel a lot of the points I wanted to get across landed very well. In fact, I had several people message me on Discord/Fimfiction and tell me that my panel was one of their con highlights.

I wanted to videotape it, but due to tech issues, I wasn't able to. However, Bronycon videotaped it and it will be going up on their youtube page over the next month or so. I'll post it then.

That being said, it was an absolute blast getting to work with my brother in shipping, CategoricalGrant. You were a joy to finally meet in person and I think we worked great together on the panel, especially considering I didn't finish our Powerpoint presentation until the morning of the panel.

We were both way too cool for school.

Oh! So, I actually spent a good chunk of time before Bronycon getting a special video presentation for the panel made. It's a quick, two minute thing featuring my favorite ships set to awesome music. If you wanna check it out, here you go! (Note: Stick around past the first 20 seconds to see it really kick into gear.)

3. The music shows every night were awesome! I got to see some of my all-time favorite musicians like the brony metal master PrinceWhateverer, the old-school legend Eurobeat Brony, and a bunch of others.

I think the highlight of this, however, was getting to be in a giant moshpit during PrinceWhateverer's set. It got so wild that security actually had to come in and shut it down. Apparently, somebody broke their hand or something, and when a dude jumped in the pit with two HUGE plastic katanas, they made us call it quits. Totally worth it, though.

On that note, I was able to meet up with Prince later and got a picture with him:

My metal face is so aggressive...

4. I got to meet SO many friends from this site and it was amazing. People I never thought I'd have the opportunity to. I'm gonna put a little blurb down here about you guys, but if I leave anyone out, it's nothing personal. There were a lot of you.

Crystal Wishes and Anzel: You both were awesome. Your panel taught me a lot of things and even as just people you guys were cool. Crystal, it's comforting to know I have a lot of the same writing habits as you do because you're actually pretty gifted. Anzel, I'm really going to take a lot of the points you made at your panel to heart and extra thanks for the quick confidence boost before my panel started. You guys rock.

Pen Stroke: This guy was way funnier and outgoing than I thought he would be. Very humble and down to Earth despite writing one of the biggest stories this fandom has seen. Hearing him talk about Reality Check and generally not giving a fuck about stuff was pretty great. I snagged a picture, too.

Aragon: You were cool, bro. Talking to you was a blast and having you drop the 'fetish' bomb and getting muted by staff at my panel was something I won't forget. Even if you did take my love of Spike down a peg, I still appreciate you, bro.

Regidar: Meeting you was a blast. Whether it was talking about our mutual bad decisions in life, fanfiction for Blink 182, it was never a dull moment. Plus you have awesome hair. I'm really glad you were able to make it and you've got a friend in me, bro.

Majin Sykeekoh: Dude, you were a joy to get to know. Taking smoke breaks, going on rescue missions, watching Nightmare Moon striptease us... Everything was great. I'll just go ahead and let this picture of us do the talking:

Biker_Dash: Dude, I'm so glad you're life is going better and we were able to meet. You were just as cool as I hoped you'd be. I've known you since I was a newb on this site and I'm glad you have met you.

Listener: I know we already knew each other beforehand, but who cares. It was a blast to hang with you and Chris and stuff. Reading fanfiction in the middle of the night while blowing smoke rings under the stars is something I won't soon forget.

Everyone else I got to meet but not really talk to at length: Kuairu, kalash93, The Elusive Badgerpony, Trick Question, FanOfMostEverything and a bunch of others, I'm sure... YOU ALL ROCK.

5. Last but not least, just getting to hang around other like-minded pony enthusiasts was great. It was relaxing to get away for a while and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I got a couple random pictures I wanted to share here.

(Opening ceremonies)

(Fursuiters normally freak me out a bit, but I'll be damned if Flitter isn't too cute to ignore)

(Ah Fluttergoth, how I love thee)

(Those concerts went hard, yo)

Anyway, that's all for that. I didn't get a whole lot of merchandise this con, so I'll save you the trouble (although I did get some awesome Starlight/Trixie prints and stuff).

It sucks that next year will be the last Bronycon, but you can bet I'll be there and I'll be bringing my A-Game to make it a blast. I hope I get to see you there, too.

I ship it. Spike and beanis when?

it was awesome getting to bunk with ya dude. Hopefully the both of us are able to do this again next year for one last hoorah

Awww, thank you but don’t sell yourself short!

Even before I discovered it was you, I was excited to have a kindred spirit in anti-chronological writing, lol. I laughed a lot during y’all’s panel. Really, though, I think we can all agree the best ship is Chrysalis x Sombra. fite me irl

You’re a great source of energy to be around in person; I was jazzed just listening to you. I’ve appreciated our sporadic conversations in PM and Discord and hope we can both learn how to draft our stories better, lol.

It was great meeting you, and you definitely pulled through in a pinch. Much appreciated!

seems like you got a lot of fun and things man

Glad you had a good time, dude.

Nice, glad you had a good time. I had similar experiences my first time I went in 2016. It’s truly a brony-tacular spectacle like no other.

Looks like you had great fun! Sorry I couldn't be there this time around. Gonna have to make plans for next year. :)

Definitely! I'll save a fist bump just for you, bro.

Some day, some day I'll have time to make it to a convention. Every time they're announced, I end up having something crazy going on.

Something I'd like to also hear more about is your conversation with Pen Stroke. He's an author I look up to.

Nruh, come to Bronycon this next year. August 1-4. It's the last one.

4911953
Of 2019? Dang. Last one... I'll see what I can do. I'll be in my first few months of marriage by then, so I'll see what I can do. Good news, in Utah, the crystal mountain pony con is going strong and will be around for a few more years.

4911969
Oh yes. It was only a matter of time it went out. There were a billion cons for this fandom and most fandoms only have a few if that. Attendance is still solid, so other cons will stand.

But who is Double Diamond? And Moon dancer? And Party Favor???

Jk. We didn't talk much but good to see ya.

It's so sad! I make a point to watch every episode so I can always keep up on who's who and what's what, but Starlight was so awesome I missed almost everything else in those episodes, lol.

Except for Sugar Belle. She's adorable.

I'm so glad you got to have this experience, man. Next year, we're gonna make waves at this thing.

Super great to hang out with you man, hanging out on Thursday (with your small hotel trouble) and around the con was great. Watching the MLP Movie was just an absolute blast, owe it to Listener for having me tag along to meet you. Next year we will all have to meet up again and have the greatest time ever!

Your panel was awesome, dude! Very happy to have participated in it. And most pleased to have finally met you in person.
