Writing Questionnaire Trend · 3:56pm Dec 17th, 2020
Hey everyone!
So, a few other authors have been doing a little question/answer thing in regards to writing via their blogs, so I figured I'd hop on board. Read elow if you want to learn more about me and my writing.
Let's do it!
1. Tell us about your current project(s) – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?
Well, besides commission work, I'm working in the background on this story:
It's essentially about time travel, romance, and discovering who you are and what you're capable of. Progress will be a lot faster once I'm done moving next month, but suffice to say I have pretty much the entirety of the story planned out.
As far as what I love most, I think I have a great opportunity to write a romance that really breaks expectations and hits the feels harder than any i've written before. I can't wait to really dive into it and show you guys.
2. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project
There is a scene with a campfire and Spike playing a song and a confession and a few other choice bits that I will pour my heart into. I hope you guys like it as much as I'll love writing it.
3. What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)
I've always wanted to write a scene where Spike is dying and he explores religion from a dragon's perspective. I think I could write it, but it would require so much research and tact on my part, I'm not sure I have the oomph to make it happen.
4. Share a sentence or paragraph from your writing that you’re really proud of (explain why, if you like)
An excerpt from Blonde Moments:
“S-Spike?” she asked.
He couldn’t look at her. “Yeah, Derpy?”
“Please tell me you’re lying?” Derpy asked, her voice wavering. “Please? Lie to me… just this once?”
Spike grimaced. “I told you I’d always tell you the truth. But… everything will be alright. You trust me, right?”
She shook her head. “No…”
In the context of the chapter that's pulled from, that scene made me tear up while writing it. That's why I love it.
5. What character you’re writing do you most identify with?
I'd have to say Spike, at least how I write him and a bit aged up. He's on his own as far as being a dragon, no parents, no family, just him learning what it means to be a man and more importantly who he is. It's a tough world out there.
6. What character do you have the most fun writing?
I absolutely love writing Trixie. She is so much fun and there are literally no ends to the amount of attitude and sass you can give her.
7. What do you think are the characteristics of your personal writing style? Would others agree?
I feel like my claim to fame is writing Spike as a mature yet complex character and taking a more realistic approach to romance and relationships. Life doesn't always dish out happy endings just because we want them and I try to capture that as much as possible.
8. Is what you like to write the same as what you like to read?
Kind of. I love reading messy romances, but I also love a good sci-fi thriller. I don't think I'd ever be able to write Sci-Fi to the point of where it would be readable, lol.
9. Are you more of a drabble or a longfic kind of writer? Pantser or plotter? Do you wish you were the other?
I've become more of a longfic person over the years. I'm down with it.
10. How would you describe your writing process?
It's controlled chaos, but I like it that way. I essentially get the spark for an idea and then I listen to music until the story formulates in my head. Once I have at least three major scenes in my head, one of which is the ending, I sit down and start to write the first chapter. Once I have the beginning done, I begin to plan the rest of it out.
11. What do you envy in other writers?
Their consistency. I wish I could schedule writing out like they do.
12. Do you want your writing to be famous?
I'm content with having a modest amount of people that read my stuff. I mean, having more readers is always nice, but I won't sell my soul for it.
13. Do you share your writing online? (Drop a link!) Do you have projects you’ve kept just for yourself?
I don't keep anything for myself. Half the fun is sharing it with others, in my opinion.
14. At what point in writing do you come up with a title?
Usually during the initial planning phase. Almost all my fics are based off of song titles, so usually whatever song I'm listening to when the full idea hits me becomes the fic title.
15. Which is harder: titles or summaries (or tags)?
Summaries kill me in my sleep. I try to keep them as short as possible while also generating some form of interest and it can be a challenge.
16. Tried anything new with your writing lately? (style, POV, genre, fandom?)
Yeah. A couple months ago I wrote an HiE that was fairly well-received. It was fun. I also wrote my first porn stories on an alt account and they did well-enough for what they were.
17. Do you think readers perceive your work - or you - differently to you? What do you think would surprise your readers about your writing or your motivations?
I think the most surprising thing about my motivations is that everything I write for the most part comes from personal experience. Even the whacky or comedic stuff.
18. Do any of your stories have alternative versions? (plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterizations?) Tell us about them.
Yes. Blonde Moments was going to be a 400k word epic about Spike and Derpy building a family together. That didn't happen and if you read the story you know why, lol.
19. Is there something you always find yourself repeating in your writing? (favorite verb, something you describe ‘too often’, trope you can’t get enough of?)
Band references. I do that in almost every story. I try to sneak in my fave band names wherever I can. For example, I use the phrase "breakdown of sanity" quite a bit or I'll twist it up with something like "she swore she blinked one-hundred eighty-two times trying to clear the eyelash from her eye" and so on.
20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)
I love the opposites attract thing and building romance from unlikely places. Like, Spike x Derpy meeting at a hospital, or Spike x fleur de lis getting lost in the city for a night and so on.
21. What other medium do you think your story would work well as? (film, webcomic, animated series?)
I think catchy punk pop songs could be written about most of my stories.
22. Do you reread your old works? How do you feel about them?
I cry at the wasted potential of some of my old stories. Like, Crystal Affair could have been so good if I would've known how to write. a long fic back in 2014.
23. What’s the story idea you’ve had in your head for the longest?
I've had this idea about Spike and Starlight, as friends, agreeing to break the world's longest kiss record together in my head for a few years now. I figured I'd make it to where the whole story is told from their thoughts about each other and so on and how it starts awkward and ends kind of sweetly. The main reason I haven't written it yet is because I found a real life novel called Two Boys Kissing that's got the same setting.
24. Would you say your writing has changed over time?
Big time. I went from below average to above average.
25. What part of writing is the most fun?
Sharing it with people and getting feedback!
Quite interesting. I wrte just for fun and it was relaxing, as I was i my exams back then. Never thought I would get so far
Man that scene in Blonde Moments was CBT for the soul.
Huh, I haven't seen this around yet. I might try it later.
Bro, same.
You should write the Glimmy and Spike smooch story too btw
Araki would be proud.
Gave it a shot. Didn't have much else to really do.
Tempted to go this myself, this is my first year of writing ever and I feel like I have a whole new perspective on fanfics as a result.

Writing can definitely be relaxing after a long day.

You can thank Curify for helping make that scene perfect. Also, I may write that fic, I just don't like taking other people's story ideas.
5417044
You totally should!

I'll check it out!

I agree! Writing has essentially raised my standards for what to expect from fanfics.

Hehe still leaves three years x3
This is coming from someone whose first story sat with the second chapter having only one word, "E ", for nearly six years before I decided to finish it
Your work has never been below average
