Dream Actor/Actress You'd Want On The Show? · 1:16am Feb 2nd, 2017

So the other day I was pondering guest voices we've had on the show thus far. The good (Weird Al, whoever voices Maud Pie) and the not-so-good (Patton Oswalt -- just didn't quite work for me). Then I thought who I'd want on the show. And more importantly, who would they play? :rainbowhuh:

Two part question time!

1. Who are they playing.

2. Actor/Actress you'd want lending their voice. And why them?

I'll go first.

1. Character: Starswirl the Bearded.

2. Played by: Bryan Cranston.

Yes, I am a big "Breaking Bad" fan, but there's more to this choice than that. Cranston has proven over the years that he's both good at serious ("BB") and comedy ("Malcolm in the Middle") roles. He also continues to do voice over work on the side, so him appearing on the show isn't completely out of the question. (Okay, it honestly is, but maybe I'll win the lottery soon and give him a million to do it.)

I even have part of the episode in mind!

Twilight Sparkle has a minor fight with Spike or Shining Armor or one of her friends. She talks with Celestia about it and she mentions a rather similar problem long ago. Then she nods to a poster of Starswirl and says he used to be her very own mentor. With Luna, too.

Cut to opening song! :trollestia: Only this time it's a FLASHBACK opening. Same song, but Celestia and Luna are doing a bunch of random crap while the song plays (tea, go karts, water slides, I don't know).

So, yes, this would all be a FLASHBACK episode. Finally... :moustache:

Celestia and Luna would be fighting about something (same as Twilight earlier) and then Starswirl would pop up randomly. He could almost be the Gandalf of this world. Just shows up to invite others on adventures and stir up shit. Eventually teaching a lesson.

Perhaps there could be a running gag about his facial hair. First it's a mustache or just some chin scruff. Then one of the Princesses says he might look good with a beard and he considers it.

I really don't have much else than that, but it's still a start. Here's some more (less serious) options!

1. The voice inside Discord's head.

2. Mark Hamill.

Why? It's the Joker inside Discord's head! Come on! :pinkiecrazy:

1. Flurry Heart.

2. Morgan Freeman.

Lines included: "Goo-goo. Gah-gah." "Gurgle." "I'm a baby. Yes, I am." "I will inherit the Earth from the weak."

1. Tom the Rock.

2. Three time Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis.

No lines. Only performance by motion capture. He'll get head damage from all the Oscars thrown at him!

1. OC pony who moves into Ponyville randomly.

2. Martin Freeman.

He never comes to any of Ponyville's major celebrations and no pony understands why. The Mane Six enter the scene and discover a character that just doesn't want to be bothered. (Basically, Bilbo from the Hobbit films.)

Have any ideas of your own? I'd love to hear them!

And this is why I follow you. :rainbowlaugh:

I want a proper villain (other villains are too casual) voiced by William B. Davis, if you can bring back the death I want a villain with voice of Tony Jay or Christopher Lee would be fine too

Okay, the voice actors I want most are Morgan Freeman as Starswirl the Bearded, simply because he is awesome, Benedict Cumberbatch as... well I don't know really, again because he's awesome and has a very charming voice, plus he works so well alongside Martin Freeman. Another voice actor I would want would be Jason David Frank as a pony who works as an archeologist, largely because I'm a huge Power Rangers fan and he has such a great and distinctive voice. Another voice actor I would want would be David Tennant as Doctor Whooves, or anypony else, because of the huge amount of role types he can play, from a psychotic mind rapist like Kilgrave in Jessica Jones to the gruff, no-nonsense detective Alec Hardy in Broadchurch, and of course, this guy.

celebsclothing.com/product_images/y/375/tenth_doctor_brown_coat__85361.jpg

Arthur Darvill wouldn't be a bad choice either for a pony, because of his natural charm and astounding performances in both Broadchurch and Doctor Who.

Okay,
Frank Welker doing the voice of Grogar

Steve Blum as the voice of Discord in G5 My Little Pony.
:rainbowderp: What? A guy can dream.

Definitely a bat pony stallion, sent to be Twilight's guard (no shipping, just silly comedy), voiced by Vin Diesel.

What's funny is how easy it would be to put Star Swirl in. There's your way, an obvious and easy one since we've had flash backs before (the Princesses vs Discord for example). Alternately you could bring him to the future as was done in an AU story I read where Twilight does a spell to find the unicorn that can help her with a major problem... And forgets to limit the spell to the current time period.

1. Button Mash's group of friends

2. Achievement Hunter (Geoff, Ryan, Gavin, Jeremy, Michael, and Lindsay)

The CMC hang out with Button Mash to see just why video games are so important to him. There, they meet six of his friends who help him feel more secure about himself by having fun beating each other up in video games.

Thing is, Gavin has already done voice acting for a Rooster Teeth series. The lot of them would just have to be reminded of the target audience every five minutes.

I think it would be great if Danny Sexbang of Ninja Sex Party, Starbomb, and Game Grumps fame as Starswirl.
I present my case:

Benedict Cumberbatch as the one Sherlock cameo in the background of Rarity Investigates.

Ian McKellen as Starswirl the Bearded.

Yuri Lowenthal as basically any trickster character.

Chris Pratt as Rainbow Dash's father.

Lin Manuel Miranda. Just... Lin Manuel Miranda :rainbowkiss:

A governor/mayor (Elected or running) Voiced by Arnold Schwarzenegger!!!

King Thorax: William Shatner (Leader in a show, and he wants to be in MLP)

Rainbow Dash's Parents: Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson.

A random pig: I am Wildcat.

Next villain/antagonist: Robbie Rotten.

It would be rather comical if all of Button Mash's friends were a good decade or two older than him.

1. A creepy little girl, possibly a villain, but she could just be a side-character in the elementary school class who provides much comic relief at how strange she is. Like, the CMC sort of know her, but they don't really like to talk to her because the conversation always an unsettling turn into topics like monsters, curses, or dark magic. Maybe she's that one kid in the class who's obsessed with classic horror, there's always at least one kid like that.

2. Played by Christina Ricci. I don't think she gets enough work or appreciation for her unique style. And creepy characters are sort of a specialty of hers, plus I noticed she's been doing more voice work lately.

4406244 All of my friends are a good 5 years younger than I am, and the AH crew are all just grown kids anyways

I don't care who they voice, I want Frank Welker and Peter Cullen on this show. that would just be hilarious, especially if Welker were the good guy and Cullen the villain. maybe they could do it as a power ponies sequel episode?

There needs to be a villain voiced by Tim Curry, if he's well enough to work. That man is the Patron Saint of Nightmare Fuel and it's only right and proper and have a roll. A quality, irredeemable villain who strikes fear into the hearts of everyone.

This guy as literally anypony:

My god, Bryan Cranston would be an awesome Starswirl!

1. Doctor Whooves (yes, I know he already has a voice actor, but WHY CAN'T IT BE-)
vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/mlpfanart/images/6/67/Doctor_Whooves.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130930132001

2. David Tennant
static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/David_Tennant_4385.jpg

It only makes sense! The Doctor as the Doctor!

Oh, and here's another logical one:

1. Bill Neigh
vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/4/42/Bill_Neigh_ID_S4E22.png/revision/latest?cb=20140713061007

2. Bill Nye
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/10/Bill_Nye.jpg

4406231 *GASP* Robbie Rotten?! :pinkiegasp:

4406306 I don't know the actor's name. Glad he's healed from Cancer.

Perhaps he can be the Flim Flam Brother's dad?

You want a distinctive voice?

Shatner.

110% Grey Delisle. She'd make a great antagonist, even a minor one.

...and now that I think about it, she's the perfect voice for Eris (as unrealistic as that is).

4406397 That would explain a lot...

Bobcat Goldthwait as Starswirl the Bearded. Brilliant, but erratic!

1. A Scientist/Technician earth pony that feels Equestria relies on magic too much

2. Robert Downey Jr.

Besides the reason that I absolutely love him. He has the correct amount of smug overtone and snark to make most if not all unicorns just roll their eyes around him. He's done so many tech/analytical roles now that having someone in the show just for one episode could create a lot of fun.

Liam Neeson as Starswirl. He'd sound so wise and chillaxed, but could definitely be convincingly angry if the princesses got out of hand.

I'd love to see Mark Hamill play a villain. Any villain will do. But preferably one that isn't quite stable and is a very serious threat.

Liam O'Brien as LITETALLY ANYPONY. the dude has such a range he could literally play an entire cast himself. But preferably something with his War voice.

I would love to see Discord try to make friends with someone who wants nothing to do with him and is voiced by Patrick Stewart.
trekcore.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/q-hug.jpg

I try not to hope for any big name stars, because after all, this is just TV. But I do have one hope for an MLP voice.

Keith David.

You youngsters may know him as Max Malini (The Cape), Dr. Facilier (The Princess and the Frog), or Sergeant Foley in CoD ("Ramirez, do everything!").

But I'll always know him as the leader of the Manhattan Clan of Gargoyles, Goliath.

i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/Kiaira/Gargoyles/Goliath.jpg

Morgan Freeman Though:rainbowlaugh:

I want danny devito to voice somepony. I don't care who.

4406554 Say, I've watched three of those!:rainbowkiss: But which would he suite better, a hero or a villian?:trixieshiftright: And which hero/villian would he be?:trixieshiftleft:

4406565 Not sure. I've been curious as to what happened to Scorpan, so maybe he could do that?

I lost it at Flurry heart.:rainbowlaugh:

4406279

Hey, it's Hasbro. They could be in-universe as Megatron and Prime.

Also, they did the hero/villain swap thing already in an episode of MEGAS XLR.

4406529

And afterwards, in G5, Discord is shocked when he irritates a different pony to the point of being bucked in the face. When asked about the violent outlash:

"I'm not Pony Picard."

Set

David Attenborough would be amazing :3

Set

4406751 so Planet Earth II was made a couple years ago? Couldve sworn i just saw it two months ago...

Shia labouf or gina wild

4406554 I was thinking of David Keith. His voice is amazing. Gargoyles, too. I could see him playing one of the classic villains. Or as Fluttershy's Flutterguy voice. Although his appearance in "Requiem for a Dream" has sort of altered my view on him. :pinkiesick: Ass to ass, anyone?

4406561 I could see him as a misunderstood cave troll or something.

4406524 Sort of like Ra's al Ghul. I dig. :moustache:

4406401

William Shatner as Rainbow Dash's dad.

I've been thinking of that one all day. It works... if RD's dad is a complete nerd and her exact opposite. :rainbowderp: The only problem is his appearance in that short flashback. He looks sorta cool there.

4406360 I'll have to look her up.

4406350 I could see him as a disgruntled town mayor.

4406287 TIm Curry came to mind. But if he blew it out of the water (which he would) and couldn't come back, I'd be pretty disappointed. He's definitely up there. :fluttercry:

4406231 Ryan Reynolds. I like. Go Canada! :rainbowdetermined2: I dig Robbie Rotten. And you could probably get him! Perhaps as Flim and Flam's third brother... Flub.

4406198 I'll have to look them up. :scootangel: But who would voice Button Mash?

4406197 I just want an episode with Trixie's brother now. That sounds great.

4406189 His two lines: "I am bat pony." "We're a family. A super fast family made of cars. Furious, too."

4406188 I had to look up Steve Blum because he's been mentioned a lot. That guy's busy! :trollestia:

4406186 In my book, Benedict Cumberbatch can do no wrong. Same with Michael Fassbender. So, yes, I would go gay for them. Tom Hardy, too. :facehoof:

4406175 And this is why I follow you... home. :pinkiecrazy:

4407160

>> Damaged His two lines: "I am bat pony." "We're a family. A super fast family made of cars. Furious, too."

Well, I was thinking more of a reprisal of his VA work for Iron Giant, but... uh, sure.

4407160 Button Mash would probably have to be voiced by...whoever voiced him in "Don't Mine at Night"

Any villain voiced by James Woods, because James Woods is the best voice actor ever.

4407160 especially if he acts like a certain someone

unfortunately,for the brothers, he's adopted.

Charlie Day, he can play anyone he wants, maybe that jelly guy. Also Adam Devine, maybe Jack Black...

4406751 Are you thinking of his brother, Richard Attenborough? As of now, David Attenborough is very much alive, and still narrating nature documentaries.

But I think he's very conscious of how much time he has left, and loves his work so much, so I can't see him taking the time to appear in MLP.

I'd be very wary of a famous name actor turning up and essentially being given a Mary Sue OC for an episode. Quibble Pants wasn't so bad, but Coloratura was a bit much for me; I thought they'd genuinely got Gaga and pretty much let her do what she wanted for 22 minutes.

So Shatner as Dash's dad would be amazing, providing it didn't fall afoul of that. As would Brian Blessed as Star Swirl (can't have a character with 'The Bearded' in his name played by a clean-shaven actor, these guys would never let you hear the end of it).
