Regidar recently posted a request for links to experimental fics. I decided to just add a bookshelf, Experimental, and list my favorite and my own experimental stories there. (My stories will probably appear first, because I added
That most-peculiar book, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, describes in Fit the Fourth how representatives of the Amalgamated Union of Philosophers, Sages, Luminaries, and other professional thinking persons confronted Deep Thought, the second greatest computer in the universe, when it threatened to find the answer to
Lots of cons have panels where people read bad fan-fiction for laughs. But they never have panels where people read good fan-fiction. So I'm going to propose one, at every con I go to.
LOL! I did NOT even think of that when I added your story to the list. I am SO dreadfully sorry.
Seriously, all of my bookshelves are Culture ship names that I think apply to my thoughts on the story. I didn't want to just give generic names to them.
In this case the point clearly is: 1) I have very much enjoyed your story, 2) post another chapter, damnit!
2542513Excession was a blast! It's still my favorite as the most absolute fun of all Culture novels to read. But I still hold Use of Weapons high up there as my favorite / most tragically dramatic.
I may need to be a little more careful in my choice of ship names, but...
ROUs, yeah... Maybe I'll mix a few ship fics into those (Rapid Offensive Unit) ship names and see what happens. Can't do more harm than I've already done!
2542480 Oh, well now I'm just embarrassed. I saw somebody added "The Curious Incident of the (Robot) Dog in the Night-time" to a bookshelf named "Very Little Gravitas Indeed", but I failed to make the connection that (1) the bookshelf was a Culture reference and (2) you were the one doing the shelving—I keep forgetting who "Southpaw" is, because you changed your username (...and I can't remember the old one either, now, but I know I'd recognize it in a heartbeat if I saw it).
"Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The" is a bit hard to miss, though.
2542543 No worries! In all honesty it's not like I've done anything particularly memorable here, and a lot of what I have done was under the old name (yep, Wolfetrax... ick!).
Your story was what gave me the idea about the category names. I hope you don't mind where I placed it...

It took me a little while to decipher these new shelves and such, wondering at where my stories were going and the titles they were being saved under. It took about a minute, but... the look on my face at the beginning must've been priceless.
I'm sure your expression would've been similar, considering.
25429112543076 That is a beautiful idea! I would be very pleased to see this happen.
I can just see the ship minds allowing her aboard a shuttle without telling anyone (until it's too late), just out of sheer impetuosity. I don't think they'd have the capacity to calculate her randomness (and where does she keep getting those party supplies?).
Pinkie Pie constituted an Outside Context Problem all by herself--the most benign one on record, certainly, but nevertheless. By the time Party Like It's 19999 realized what they'd allowed aboard in the name of studying her bizarre organically-generated Fields, it was already far too late...
yeah, i know what you mean. someone added one of my fics, Twilight's Little Trixie, to a bookshelf called Okay Clopfics, even though it isn't a clopfic
You know, that's one of my favorite parts of the bookshelves-- seeing what weird shelves my fics get put on.
Yeah, I agree with 2542450. I saw several of my crackfics be added to a bookshelf titled "Baffling but Good."
Also, "Jerky favorited Mares of Diomedes." If you're familiar with the Greek myth, you'll know why that's funny.

Ah. The Excession, was it? Great book. And great theme for bookshelf names.
Can't imagine what you put on the bookshelves named after ROUs.
Try writing horse porn. You get some really weird bookshelf notifications from that shit.

Rodents of unusual size? I don't think they exist.
ETA: Wolftrax. That looks right... or right-ish?
Or maybe leftish, given what it got changed to?
haahaha!

Now I'm both kinda happy and kinda sad I went with the generic bookshelf names. Might have to change them.
2542570 Clearly choosing something 'outside the box' adds an element of risk...
2542480
I told you I didn't want to know!
Now you've spoiled my fantasy, dammit.
2542563
Well... it really doesn't have a whole lot of gravitas, no.
(Also, yay a Gravitas ship!)

ISN'T WRITING FUN?
2542614 Oopsie, I have destroyed the mystery! I am bad and I should feel bad.
Can I make it up to you? I could throw Big Mac Reads Something Purple into a new shelf called Big Sexy Beast.
Or maybe place The Saga of Dark Demon King Ravenblood Nightblade, Interior Design Alicorn into God Told Me To Do It.
EDIT: And then I realized that I hadn't read Big Mac Reads Something Purple as I thought I had. I found a good home for it.
.....
I may have laughed at that, even before knowing what it was a reference too...
And now it's time to land a General Celebration Unit in Bad Horse's comments and throw a Culture Party.
...I don't think I could do justice to "Pinkie Pie discovers the nightlife on a GSV".

Ooh, sequel ideas!
Sorry, my compiler can't handle nested in-jokes.

2542480 Loveliest bookshelf naming scheme ever.
2545180 Thanks!
I like it, though I think I may have mildly scarred Bad Horse - for probably about 2 minutes.
