Welcome to the first fiction contest of 2014!
In conjunction with the other contests across the site, you've got a chance to submit entries, have your story read and win some of the prizes shown. The theme for the contest is rewriting - Choose any of the official hubworld synopsis and rewrite the episode in a way that appeals to you without contradicting the synopsis. Entries will be weighed towards the care and work put in the piece, rather than 'objective' ability of the artist, so everyone's work will have a pretty fair shake at winning.
A grand prize winner in each of the three contests will get their choice of plush figure shown (image below), choice of IDW comic, -and- a third prize choice from among the following: wallet, mini-comic, trading card deck, keyfob, mystery figurine, t-shirt, poster.
A second prize winner in each category will also win a prize from the pool, to be determined from among the grand prize winners remaining options.The contest will run from now until February 15th, when the entries will be judged.

I'm curious...
Just how do they intend to judge each story by the "care and work" that went into it?? The amount of sweat and love you put into a story in no way guarantees it will be good. And how do you discern the author's effort without ever having seem them work or fret over it, or knowing the amount of time they spent fashioning each paragraph?
That's why we judge by the "objective" quality of the story--because it's something you can actually measure when separated by the distance of the internet.

My question is what are you supposed to do. Are you supposed to write the happenings of an episode, altered to your tastes, but the synopsis must stay the same? I don't get it...
I might try and whip something up just for the fun of it. I'm not really interested in receiving pony merch

A synopsis is the plot basically, usually trimmed down to a few sentences.
In this case - choose any of the Hubworld episodes and change elements of what happens so long as you stay relatively close to the original's plot. IE: in "Sonic Rainboom", Pinkie gets the wing spell instead of Rarity.

I've looked at the mlp wikia, the mlp page on Wikipedia, and the Hub network pages for mlp. Only found the three most recent synopses.
I've found two or three lists of synopses, but they sure aren't the official ones, which makes quite a difference as it turns out. (Discord isn't mentioned in the official Three's a Crowd synopsis, but he is in the unofficial ones (the same goes for Flutterbat in Bats!))
I guess most of the official ones can be found via EQD, but it's pretty inconvenient tracking down every single article.
I might be overthinking it, though. The rules don't seem to be all that strict, so I guess I'll go with the more easily accessible unofficial ones.
