The Day of the Dead Anthology

The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is a now-famous tradition from ancient times that has been a huge part of Mexican Culture through the centuries. Like so many things in Mexico, it's influenced strongly by certain aspects of the Aztec people.

It has shaped the way those of us with that heritage look at life and death in many ways, and most importantly on the remembrance of, and honoring the deceased. We traditionally decorate little altars dedicated to the memories of those that passed away… but it's not a somber occasion.

PSA: Using AIs to Write and Publish Stories in Fimfiction

Hello everyone, this is a PSA (Public Service Announcement, for those of ESL) to put to rest consistent questions about using AI to 'write' stories and publish them here. This is not intended as a poll or a request for feedback. It is exclusively a clarification on an already-existing rule.

People ask: "Can I, oh great and powerful D, post a story or chapter that I got ChatGPT to write for me?!"

And the answer, my friend, is... No.

Absolutely not. Not in a thousand years!

    Because you didn't write it.

It is not your creation. You are NOT the author. In fact, you are the opposite.

There seems to be some confusion when interpreting the following rule:

    Don’t Post (Content)

    Phishing Awareness

Have you ever found yourself in a situation like this?

And then you magically find yourself in a suspiciously familiar site, except that you're not logged in, and it requires you to do so?

Well. Don't log in. This is a scam, and a cheap one at that.

There've been recent attempts to obtain Fimfiction users’ personal data, like passwords and/or emails through links like the one I'm making fun of above. And a distressing amount of people don't seem to know what phishing attempts are.

If you HAVE entered a site like this and put in your data, make sure to follow these basic steps at least.

All Our Best [Royal Canterlot Library]

As should be obvious from 15 months without a feature, life has taken the Royal Canterlot Library curators in different directions. While there’s still plenty of awesome stories being written in the My Little Pony fandom, we’re no longer actively working to spotlight them, and it’s time to officially draw the project to a close.

Thank you for all of your support, suggestions, and comments over the years. We’re grateful to have been able to share seven years of exemplary stories with you, and give more insight into the minds behind them. In the spirit of the project, please keep reading and recommending fantastic fics to friends—the community is enriched when we all share what we love.

    Reunions: A Swapped Roles Contest!

Okay guys here's something fun presented by Nitro Indigo.

Presented by me, I guess, but I digress.

Last year, I (Nitro Indigo) noticed that there was a surprising lack of roleswap fanfics on this site. To fix that, I decided to run a roleswap contest over the summer themed around secrets. While it didn’t get many entries, it nevertheless attracted the attention of some big authors and was the origin of two of my favourite fics. Overall, I think it was a success, so I’ve decided to run another one!

    Minor Rules and Reporting Update

Hope everyone is enjoying the new year.

Some small changes have been made to our rules as well as to the reporting process.

    Rules

"No attacks directed at individuals or groups due to race, gender, gender identity, religion or sexual identity."

This better clarifies our previously ill-defined hate speech rule and includes groups as well as individual attacks.

"No celebration, glorification or encouragement of real life criminal activity."

This includes past, present and potential future crimes.

    Jinglemas 2019

There's truly no time like the holidays. What's better than copious amounts of food, quality time with family and friends, hearing the sweet sound of Trans-Siberian Orchestra on repeat, and unmanagble financial stress from our capitalist overlords?

    Gift exchanges of course!

Site Post » How To Use the "Groups Search" to find Editors and Proof-Readers · 8:49pm May 1st, 2012

Hello again, fellow readers/authors! Welcome back to the wonderful and enriching world of My Little Pony Fan Fiction.

It used to be that people all over the world would scorn Fan Fics as being beneath them; the work of amateurs pulled out of the pits of hell.

Today, we know better. Places like Equestria Daily and Fimfiction.net have brought out pieces of literature that the likes of Tolstoy and Wilde would never have imagined possible. And I am humbled to be a part of this and to be able to help you get a little bit closer to the Charles Dickens inside of you.

Having read my last guide on How to Get Approved on Fimfiction, I am sure that you’ve had little trouble churning up those stories that-

DeerWandrD

idontknowwhymistorydidnotgotreadersbecuseiworkdrallyhardonitandithinkitsinteresingbecauseithas
aalicornthatdosnothavewingesandpeplekeepbingmeantomebecausetheydontknothatispentsomuchtime

No.

I don’t have time, since I have a lot to do and the time it took for me to decipher what you wrote I’m never getting back. I'm sure there are others, out there, who might be interested in helping you. But, for argument’s sake, let’s see first what we’re dealing with here...

Oh hell no. Nope. You’re barking up the wrong tree. I'm not even that good with grammer. <--- See? Can you ask someone else?

Pweeze?

I think you have yet to realize how Fimfiction.net can help you become a better writer. Have you considered checking out the “Groups” to find someone willing to... do you a favor and destroy it edit?

But... how can I use them? Where are these “groups” you speak of?

It’s simple:

Go to the tab that has your name and click on it. (Note: In this instance it has my name. Do not get confused if you don’t see “Wanderer D” in your page. It’s fine. Unless it's your user page and you don't see me in your 'following' list. You can be confused and horrified then. Thankfully that is easily fixed.)

Now, follow these 3 steps to success:

1) Look for “Groups”

2) When you get to the Groups Page write what you are looking for...

2.5) Click on “Find Group” and...

3) Profit!

But... I just need proofreaders because my story-telling is perfect! How do I find them, Wanderer D?! HOW!?

Just as an experiment let’s try again with the word “Proof!”

We write it in the search space... we click  “Find Group” aaand...

*squee!*

Success! You have found a place where people are willing to subject themselves to torture help you format and edit and re-word your story so that the people that accidentally click on it can actually read it!

Well done!

At this rate you’ll get that coveted Fimfiction.net Publishing Expert Diploma you’ve coveted and hang it on top of your Rainbow Dash shrine!

Now, go ahead and write those 100k + stories that we all want to read and send them to the pre-readers and editors for a wonderful experience with thoughtful, friendly and most importantly, creative support.

So use the keywords to get what you want: Author, Editor, Proof, Help, Fem!Shepard

And remember good ol' Benjamin Franklin’s famous words:

“A countryman between two lawyers is like a fish between two cats.”

What story was that with the little to no spaces?

n

Might as well ad for the Author Support group here as well.

Raven Metalclaw Bloodscar was the most...

I dunno how to even say it.

The comments covered it pretty well.

I can back this up and say that the groups (either of those that Wanderer D pinpointed) are really helpful and full of nice people. Trust me. Their bark is worse than their bite!

Good advice. Now if they would just stop printing warning labels that should be obvious, we'd have so many fewer fools polluting the internet. And the earth.

Oh god, now THIS is probably my favorite blog on the website. :rainbowwild:

93473 Good times, really. <3

93484

Raven just turns his swag on, then all the villains are redeemed

WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS HOW THANKFUL FOR THIS POST I AM!!!!!!!!!!

seriously, I've been looking for an editor and proofreaders forever. i dont know how to thank you for this post. my god your just the greatest. i freaking love you man.:pinkiehappy:

in a platonic way of coarse:trixieshiftright:

I think I see the problem here. The sarcasm is being laid on a little too thick; the people it's being targeted at might not understand.
Then again, maybe it is for the best that they don't realize you're mocking them.

This Ecnecselesbo guy sounds like a devilishly handsome dude.

Yes! Thank you so much for plugging this stuff on the front page. Anything to connect our editors with our authors. There are so many stories out there that could have been great if they'd had a little cleanup before they were posted.

93490 I hear he's quite the hit with the fillies. Just sayin' :ajsmug:

93472 Ah! Yes...

n

93494
It's cool. I know you're a busy person.

Good stuff.
Less information I didn't know this time though.

93494

No love for me? Cmon man...

You're really bringing back the memories of my cliche depressing childhood.

Suddenly, I can only imagine the death of my parents and my sister's marriage to a goat.

93499 She's MINE!

wut

Neato. Hopefully some of the authors use it.

Best blog ever!!

93504

Fine.

Time to self-immolate

93499 UoK you need more love? So the mares piling up at your door are not enough? Damnit man, I thought we could leave it unsaid! :pinkiehappy:
Here: :heart::heart::heart:

That last picture... It is amazing, simply put. And now I wait for someone to write about Raven Metalclaw Bloodscar.

93515

So many mares, but none of them speak english...

Well... One says "Mushroom", but I dunno why. What'd you do?

93532

Click on Obs' account and read "Punctuation Ponies save the world."

Nice post, very helpful.

Problem is, I can't seem to find the Wanderer D drop tab, I only have a thewookie1 one. :derpyderp2: :rainbowlaugh:

That is the best story ever and I demand to read more of it.

"Oh hell no. Nope. You’re barking up the wrong tree. I'm not even that good with grammer. <--- See? Can you ask someone else? "

As one of D's editor's, I can personally attest to this fact.

93609 As one of your editors I can attest to your testament. :pinkiehappy:

93623

I'd call it "testa-ception", but I'm afraid of the incorrect, yet understandable, implications

I didn't know groups worked like that, nice. Thanks for the tip.

However, the truth is I'm very shy, and I seriously doubt I could ask for help from stangers :twilightblush: Luckily I'm not as terrible as the stuff up there.

93627 Nope, it's just Chuck Testa.

Dis guy knows what he's talking about.

Any suggestions in regards to finding pre-readers?

I think Wanderer is a pretty cool guy eh makes posts and doesn't afraid of anything.

WD, these blogs are not only helpful but damn funny. Your humor is quite a ....(wait for it)....rarity(I hear the boos now).

This was amazing.

I posted in Looking for Editors and got jackshit.

I love this so much.

93889

Wow... *I* typed that, and I my eyes bleed reading it...

Wanderer D, even though I don't really need more proof readers or editors, this guide made me laugh and enjoy reading it. :trollestia:

I was translating the horrible story into something with decent grammar right up until it got inappropriate.

Those comments in that google doc pic made my day.....:moustache:

That 'Raven Metalclaw Bloodscar' fic, was that legit, or one of Wanderer D's glorious examples of bad fiction writing?

Either way, I'd like to read it, just for shits 'n giggles.

Wanderer D is best blogger.

This is truth.

Gem

I dunno... those stories there looked pretty good :pinkiecrazy:

93859 We don't control the response time since that is up to the members of the group. You can try looking for the keyword 'author' I hear the Author Support group is active.
