Best friends since childhood, Sunburst and Starlight were inseparable. Back then every sorrow could be lifted with a hug and few simple words of comfort. Now grown, they have to face the cruel reality that not everything could be cured with a few uplifting words. No matter how much one prays and begs and pleads, life isn't fair for the two best friends.

Sunburst and Sunset Shimmer are two siblings trying to survive in a kingdom run by a rotten queen, with every little coin they can gather from various odd jobs. But when the eldest sister tells an outlandish lie, she unknowingly puts her little brother in unspeakable danger, where he is assign to complete an impossible task or face terrible consequences. In his darkest hour, a nameless witch comes to him and offers to help him: for a kindness. Will he accepted it? Will he remember all that he has forgotten? Only the witch has the answer.

Based on the German fairytale "Rumpelstiltskin"

On a trip to the human world, Starlight Glimmer enters a café and encounters, what could only be described as, a familiar stranger. They sit and talk for a while then she leaves, knowing full well why she can't shake the feeling of familiarity, but decides it is best to sit and examine it at another time.

Despite Starlight's raw talent for magic and Sunburst's studious nature, they fall flat in the face of self-doubt, unresolved issues and finally coming to terms with their feelings for one another. All that their magic is good for is to dance around the issue, making it pretty useless. (Otherwise known as "Ten ways to say I love you.")
