The mane six, Spike, Aita, and the changeling rulers are summoned at the announcement of Princess Celestia and Princess Luna's retirement, Chrysalis responding with her own. Even Starlight will be moving in with Sunburst all the while. This news ends up getting to Aita unlike anything before. Meanwhile, Discord makes a low-effort attempt to bring past foes together with the choice of teaming up or venturing alone.

Spike ends up with a stone scale while Rarity is gathering resources for her next dress. This leads to a cascade of events and symptoms that may point to puberty.

Chrysalis has a son that used to live in the hive: Patch. When word gets out that he is looking for his own place to stay, Chrysalis takes the opportunity as the mother to try and catch up. Unfortunately, unlike even Equestria, he still hasn't gotten past the old way of life Chrysalis used to lead her subjects.

Hearth's Warming is around the corner, but Aita's feeling a little down due to what this means as his first Hearth's Warming entirely in Equestria. So Twilight suggests that he spends some time with Chrysalis and Areola while they decorate back home. When he arrives, storytelling goes awry, causing the map to call Areola and Twilight to solve the resulting friendship problem.

Sunburst is receiving letters too often about the same dull topic of his future from his mother, Stellar Flare. He tries to relax in Ponyville, but now the letters are following him. At the suggestion of Aita, they and Starlight Glimmer take a trip to Sire's Hollow to report Stellar Flare's familial behavior, where FIrelight volunteers to help.

Shortly after the Grand Galloping Gala, Aita is on his way home from the CMC clubhouse when Lightning Dust engages in a conversation with him. Unfortunately, after Aita tells his friends, Lightning Dust gets a U-Fly letter about a rental chariot that not only postpones her welcome party, but, once found out, also ends up getting Discord framed. To get everything figured out, Aita will have to put his deductive skills to the test with the help of Fluttershy and Lightning Dust.

When Scootaloo uses a slingshot to go to Cloudsdale, Aita teleports to the landing spot only to discover the presence of Rainbow Dash's parents, Bow Hothoof and Windy Whistles. Initially they seem like a whale of a time, but as the house tour goes on things get a little creepy for Aita. After the visit though, instead of homework, Aita has a friendship mission to solve between Rainbow Dash's parents and the Wonderbolts.

Aita, Sunset and Twilight are called by the map to help patch out a strained relationship in the Changeling Kingdom. Turns out it wasn't because of the party like Sunset thought, but instead Carve's tendency to come to Chrysalis at bad times.

The night before Aita's eighth birthday, his first in Equestria, his DS attempts to notify him about it. However, the combination of magic, rapid eye movement, and electricity unexpectedly brings the former changeling queen to the waking world, someone who was meant to stay in the dream realm.

Chrysalis is being interviewed in Canterlot, Carve mostly there to help with practice, but that gets cut short after Pharynx recreates a spell scroll. Naturally, they track him down until they arrive at the throne, where they find out he cast a spell to go and save his brother. Unfortunately, Carve and Chrysalis get sucked in too. How will they stop Pharynx on their own?
