As for the artifact, it's inspired by the Sampo from the Kalevala In that it's appearance is is unknown, and we only know what it does.
Awesome ending! However, I think that a little more should have been done to explain Applebloom and Sweetie Belle's talents, not just Scootaloo's. We all know that Scootaloo's talent is scootering, Sweetie Belle's is singing, and I guess Apple Bloom's is art or building, but those talents displayed by them in the show don't really shine through in this story.
However, It's a a great read, and I love your concept on the whole cutie mark thing, it's really cool!
