Talk about Awkward

Merry Christmas!

Her heart practically stopped beating.

In front of her was a godde- .... Oh wait, that was Applejack. She had -or perhaps Rarity had- styled her soft blonde mane into an upsweep of curly tendrils. Ever being the ruffian, some strands had escaped and straggled artistically into her face, giving her the appearance of having ran a five metre course before coming here. Holding what was left up of it was a holly clip; but the traditional red berries one would find on a holly snig were instead replaced with small red apples. Trust her to own an accessory like that.

Rainbow Dash was suddenly feeling self-consciously under dressed. She hadn't done anything fancy with herself, and had only thrown on a wooly scarf as 'protection' against the harsh weather. Despite being one of Pinkie Pie's parties, the atmosphere was very formal for a Hearthswarming Eve get-together. Not at all what she expected.

......... She ran out of things to distract herself with. The biting winds outside were trying to fight their way past the open doorway, past Dash's unresponsive frame, and she really did not enjoy the freezing Arctic breaths gushing against her. Although she could have stayed there, in fear of what would come next.

Nervously, she fixed her gaze back on Applejack. Said mare was now staring at the offending bushel positioned above their heads, her expression unreadable.

Dash cursed herself for being so unaware. It was one of Pinkie Pie's parties, for Pete's sake (even if the environment was completely different than what was expected from the party pony)! Expect the unexpected! Her own unwariness had now put her into one of the most awkward situations she could ever think of. Applejack would hate her, and run out of here screaming! She'd never speak to her again! Neither would her other four best friends! Everyone in town would side with the five celestial Elements, and Mayor Mare would lead a rebellion to drive her out of Ponyville! Cloudkicker would fire her from Weather Patrol, and drive her out of Cloudsdale! Princess Celestia herself would probably banish her from Equestria! The Wonderbolts would never accept somepony into their group who was so hated, who got driven out of their own homes! No-pony would accept her, and she'd have to live as a dragon, if they didn't turn out hating her too! Fluttershy did communicate with all manners of animals....

SHE WOULDN'T EVEN BE FIT TO LIVE WITH ANIMALS! THEY WOULD HATE HER TOO!

She glared at the affronting mistletoe, cursing it for ruining her life. Things would never be the same after this. She tensed up and closed her eyes, bracing herself for the tabby mare's shrill cry.

But instead she was met with a soft giggle. Applejack was looking back at her again with a bright smile, her head cocked to the side.

"Howdy to y'all too, RD," she drawled teasingly. "An' a mighty fine greeting we get ta' have." She let her eyes flicker to the leafy plant, dangling comfortably above Dash's head, and turned back to the cyan mare with a half-lidded smile.

If you had asked Rainbow Dash an hour ago, she would laugh at you if you asked her had she interest in Applejack. She did not ever feel affection, or longing, or love past friendship boundaries towards the orange workpony. But now she was having contradictory thoughts, with AJ's inviting tone and expression.... her body voicing these thoughts with a softly audible pompf, heat rushing to more places than one.

Applejack didn't stop there. Stepping forward, she raised a hoof under Rainbow's chin, bringing their faces closer together and forcing them to make eye contact. "How 'bout we make it one y'all don't forget?" Applejack began to close the personal distance.

You might as well have shoved Dash under a storm cloud. She was paralyzed with shock and was so turned on, her muscles in spasm. She couldn't even feel the cold anymore. The atmosphere was so perfect - the dimmed lights, the smell of cinnamon and scented candles, AJ's sexy hairdo, the hushed conversation of ponies as they payed no attention to the newly-arrived volcano that was Rainbow Dash and the apple succubus. What made it even better was that there was nopony threatening to become a nun.

Rainbow just sat back as Applejack did all the action -not that she could even do anything-, the farmpony's lips getting closer by the second. The pegasus, really getting into the mood, closed her eyes expectingly, her limbs still rigid and unresponsive.

The feeling of passion she expected didn't come. All she felt was a quick peck on the cheek, and it was over. No hot make out session that would've had to move somewhere less public, the scenario her mind conjuring and her body craving... just a friendly little kiss on the cheek.

Nothing else.

Nope.

Just a cheek kiss.

Nothing more to it.

.... What kind of cruel joke was this? Rainbow had never felt so cheated - element of Honesty..? YEAH RIGHT!

A whirlwind of pink soon came rushing over. Her hair was in the same elaborate style-up as Applecheat, only there was a christmas cracker clip in place of the appleholly adorning the pink candyfloss instead. It seemed that she was the only pony without one of these... Rarity clasps. Her mane was also scattered with additional sweets, like the mare had stuck her head into a bowl of sweets and ended up with half of it on her head instead of in her mouth.

"Hey Jackie, welcome Dashie! I'm so so so glad you could make it, this means so much to me that you find my parties awesome enough to come to! Though you always come to all of my parties, so I guess every single one I throw must be fantastic! I should give myself a pat on the back for that, though this one isn't all my work, so you'd have to halve that back pat, and give the other half to Rarity! She insisted that the Heartswarming Eve party had to be really really good, so she even helped me plan it all to get everything right, which was really... nice... of her." The pink mare came to a pause and stopped bouncing - usually Dash would interrupt her right around here, but she, being physically unable to, didn't. Rainbow Dash was still in her coma like state, her body still refusing to cooperate with her. Applejack turned to smirk at Pinkie, gesturing to the mistletoe. The party mare's smile began to also rise.

"Wow Jackie! If you can leave Dashie speechless, you must be really good! Want to let me try next?"

This.... isn't really what I wanted to post as my first story. xD But seeing as it's Christmas and how there are next to no seasonal appledash fics floating around, I just had this random idea pop into my head and typed it up really quick. I'm sorry if they seem OOC to anyone... but -cough- headcannon ftw :p
I also may have gotten some terms wrong, and I might have mistyped somewhere :D Forgive me. !!!!!! ALSO! the applepie is not intentional, appledash ftw 4evz. it just seems like something pinkie would say. :D!!!!!

1855010 Well you really did drop the comedic awkwardness of the two kissing, granted you tried to branch out and bring Pinkie Pie in. Though if you waited until after the kiss -and some awkwardly comical statements from other ponies- then Pinkie's last line, it would be better.
