No worries, Mix-up! I hope everything's okay on your end. The story's still here whenever you're ready and have time and, as you can see, I'm still releasing chapters. For Gearing and Handy, there's been a lot of ongoing dust-ups between the two and their relationship towards each other since the beginning. And while it's taken a sharp change in direction, it's far from smooth sailing so quickly. I'd worked on it for a while, and those 'sudden snaps change of hearts' just never made real life sense to me in other stories. Habits and preconceived biases are hard to break, it's a process. And that's kind of what I'm going for. As, typically, all of the interpersonal relationships with my characters tend to progress throughout the story. Things are constantly in motion. My thoughts on it are that once growth stops, stagnation begins.
For Gearing's scariness and initiative taking, I feel it's important to remind that Handy isn't even aware of most of what Gearing's done. Part of the reasoning behind the secrecy is referenced in chapter 65 that I just released. And it'll all become more clear as the story progresses, I'm sure.
For chapter 64.5, ding ding, glad you caught on to who it really was. And, as gets brought up in 65, Gearing had a lot of animosity towards Blueblood for a variety of reasons. But, as you'd touched on, he was also trying to get rid of Blueblood to get him out of the way. I don't think it's too much of a spoiler to say that Blueblood's unexpected appearance was an unwelcome variable that could have put the op in jeopardy. And, actually did.
Blueblood's brother? Do you mean Vanity [from Project Horizons]? Oh, don't worry, I haven't forgotten about him, or the other Macintosh's Marauders. Coincidentally I was just working on a scene featuring one of them heavily, just this week.

Thank you, glad you're enjoying the story! I try to write characters that all have their own hopes, dreams, desires, and fears. Even side and background characters. Gives them, and the world as a whole, more life in my opinion. And, in this case, gives a bit more insight into Dandy's psyche and personality in doing so.
To be honest I was expecting for the end first Meeting with Charity, would be that Gearing fining himself shirtless, weaponless, capless, his hide stripped bare, and in heavy debt before he even realizes he stared away from her cute innocent blue eyes. Though I think the foals will certainly take advantage at stripping of everything from him the moment he is vulnerable, say a like still drying concrete, like a pack of starving wolves with wretched in their mouths, so that could still happen. I think that would be the best way to capture Gearing actually.

Oh, that manipulative little filly is certainly capable of doing that, stripping ponies of their last cap, given her history. But sweet talking doesn't work so well when someone's walking into the conversation openly hostile. Or, in game terms, red and ready to fight. Then add in the above fact, with the realization that he had been planning to kill a foal for a week, and he was too busy mentally tripping over himself and freaking out to fall victim to that at this point. Too busy running away. But, don't worry, their interactions are far from over. And, I think you may be right. The best way to get Gearing, would be using foals.
a interesting chapter. but just what did our pony's walk in too?

I don't think saying "An ungodly mess" would be too much of a spoiler.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I did have a slight concern that it may have been TOO much exposition at once. But, at the same time, the timing of it is important and helps the pacing for what's coming up. And then, also, as I typically do, I've made sure there's a few hints and nuggets of info about other things that are going on at the same time as well. Things that are only being mentioned in passing in this chapter but that will be extrapolated on later on. :)
