Thank you very much. It might make slightly more sense if you read some of the previous stories as they are all set in the same universe but, to be honest, the difference will be negligible. If you do wanna check out the other stuff, I wouldn't suggest reading the first one. It's overlong and not very good. That segment you quoted was actually a reference to Odin hanging from an ash tree for nine days. I put in some random symbolism that didn't really relate to the plot such as Garfield's journey from prison mirroring the nine circles of Heaven from Dante's Paradiso. I don't actually have the firmest grasp on the text as I just skimmed the Wikipedia page.
