“What do you mean?” Luna asked, unsure of what to say or even if she should approach this topic as her mind whirled around every possible meaning of what the sixteen-year-old had just said. What could she mean by that? I can think of a lot of different things but at least two of them are illegal, not to mention downright creepy. She thought as she watched the girl struggle to find the words.
“Never mind it's stupid.”
Luna was about to say something but before she could the teen had pulled away, wrapping her arms around herself as she stared down at the roof. She could practically see the gears turning in Sunset's head as the teen seemed to get lost in thought.
Why do I even want to try? I know that it is just going to end up like all the times before! Besides, Celestia already said that nothing can change between us. I should have known that this would happen! That I would get too close, want too much...Just like I did with Princess Celestia!
Sunset felt like the air was being crushed from her lungs as her mind played memories back to her, things that she had wished that she could have forgotten. I started wanting the same things from the princess too and look what that got me. I know Principal Celestia said we're family but....that was probably just to make me feel better. After all...who would ever care about someone like me? I couldn't even make my aunt proud of me....why would someone actually care if my own family wouldn't?
She tried to forget how nice it felt when Celestia had held her before, how that she sometimes could forget that this was basically the Princess's form in another world. What if I end up just ended up on the streets again? She wondered bitterly, however, Luna suddenly jarred her out of her thoughts by ruffling her hair.
“It's not stupid if it makes you this upset. I promise I won't tell my sister anything, now will you tell me what is going on? I don't like seeing you like this.”
Sunset opened her mouth to respond but it was like she was going to choke on her words as she tried to force the thoughts into words. “Celestia said that things wouldn't change between us...But...Things have...and I..” Sunset paused, her knuckles turning pale as she tightened her grip on her pants.
“I'm scared okay? I'm afraid I'm going to mess this all up one way or another! Just like I did all the other times!”
“I know Sunset. You've been hurt so many times that it's hard to trust anyone but I think Celestia didn't mean that she wouldn't welcome change, I think she just meant that she wouldn't force it. ”
One part of Luna's mind couldn't help but flash back to how the once popularity driven Celestia had made empty promises that sounded very much like the one she had made Sunset, however, this wasn't then and this was different. Luna knew that, but she still couldn't help but worry that perhaps Sunset would just end up being hurt without Celestia meaning for it to happen.
“Do you think she'd be honest with me if I talked to her about it?”
The question surprised Luna though she managed a nod. “Yeah, I think she will. Want me to come with you?”
Sunset bit her lower lip when she was asked that before nodding.
“she won't be angry will she?” She asked, earning a sigh
“No Sunset, she won't.”
Just what is going on in that head of hers? Just what happened in her past that made her worry so much? Is this why she wanted to be number one all the time? Did she think that she had to do that to get people's respect? Did she think that by being queen bitch she would achieve something? Luna tried not to get lost in thought as she offered a hand to help the teen up.
“My sister is a lot of things but quick-tempered, she is not.”
Celestia wasn't sure what to think when she saw Sunset walk into the living room, one hand gripping Luna's tightly while Luna herself had an unreadable expression on her face.
“Miss Celestia? Can we please talk?”
Celestia could practically hear the alarms going off in her head at the girl's tone, which sounded almost as meek and broken as it had the night after the fall formal. What on earth happened up there? She wondered, though she tried to keep herself from worrying so much as she answered: “Of course.”
Sunset felt as if she was going to be sick as she mulled over the ways she could even start this conversation. Just what could she say without sounding like a complete idiot? She wondered as she slowly moved away from Luna and took a seat on the opposite side of the room.
“Things are changing, aren't they? Between us, I mean.” She finally began, not daring to make eye contact with her mentor as her mind flashed back to a familiar conversation that she had been a part of long ago.
You're my student, nothing more Sunset and you would do well to remember that.
She half expected to hear something like that once again as she continued.
“you said that I was family...that...that you loved me...But...I don't know where we stand.”
Princess Celestia’s list of sins continue to mount.
I'm loving this story but these short chapters are killing me! More please
Ok man this is so heartbreaking! Sunset so vulnerable and fragile right now. I really hope the cMC are happy with themselves, the way it going Sunset going to have a mental break down.
I also hope the rainbooms realize how fragile and broken she is before it's too late!
This even before the Dazzlings taunt her and such!
great chapter dude
Great chapter. I really hope that things turn around for Sunset before she does something drastic.

Yeah I feel like each fanfic like this and even the actual. Series needs a Princess Celestia sin counter.

I have to disagree. Doing anon-a-miss now means the student body's treatment towards her doesn't change. The key factor that makes anon-a-miss is the emotional impact. After the second movie she thought all was forgiven and that everyone was cool. Then in 1 day everyone's attitude does a 180 and she can't figure out why and the emotional impact devastates her... in most stories. If she's almost there already then you kinda kill the point.
By no means am I saying the story itself isn't good a matter of fact I think it's very good, I'm just making a point.
9039130 And I think you're missing the point of doing it now. It makes sense for someone to pull this crap before the Battle of the Bands. Sunset is still under suspicion, and if it is the CMC, she's just starting to get close to their sisters, which they wouldn't want. There are still a lot of people who want payback, so it all fits. I also like that the huMane Five spot that it's too obvious, which anyone who knows Sunset at all would realise.
What never made sense to me was the way things happened in reality. Post Fall Formal, Sunset has redeemed herself, finally fully integrated with the huMane Five and has generally turned things around. Then we get Anon-y-miss, and they immediately turn on her when they of all people should be able to figure out that obvious frame up is obvious, and all that development goes out the window.
Because basically, from a Doylian perspective, that's exactly what happened. This Ted Anderson creep decided he wanted to write a 'very special episode' and didn't give a flying feather how hard he had to run roughshod over canon to achieve it. But of course, status quo is god, so he had to follow up the wrecking of Sunset's life with easy forgiveness. Which undermines the whole point of the cyber-bullying is bad message, since it makes it clear that you can cyber-bully someone into a complete breakdown and then get off by saying sorry and doing a few detentions. It was badly written and he should feel bad. If there'd been some mind altering magic, say fragments of the Dazzlings gems messing with everyone's head, then it might have made more sense.
Look at Forgotten Friendship, which did pretty much the same plot of Sunset's friends abandoning her but did it right.
