Personally I see 3 variants of explanation of the story itself and 2 variants of the result of "entering" the "portal".

1. The character has gone mad and everything (magical) happens in his head. The result: death. But this doesn't explain the obvious clues to Luna and everything else being real: feathers, lavender scent, wife's reaction, people outside reaction, etc. People don't get mad or/and hallucinate the same way in masses.

2. The character is mistaking, despite all that happens is real. The result: death. Luna has yet another reason to be sad.

3. The character's calculation is right, what happens is real. The result: he gets transferred, reborn, resurrected in Equestria, meets Luna and... they live happily ever after. We may hope.

Which one do you like?

I too Love Princess Luna but as her daughter . Luna is my Mother and so is Princess Nightmare Moon and Princess Celestia as also Princess Twilight and Princess Cadence .
