Really they should be having a summit with Celestia, and it seems kind of odd that all the animals can speak to each other but it is a different language than the ponies use.

Hmm Not necessarily -- Fluttershy may be able to speak in a general tongue that works with every animal (She certainly talked differently to the breezies than to say a squirrel) but it brings me back a bit to "Do I look like I speak squirrel?" said by Twilight in Hurricane Fluttershy. I don't know to what level a bird can talk to a squirrel in FiM.
If they can all talk to each other then it is interesting that ponies somehow lost the ability to communicate with the animals. I'll have to pay closer attention to a few of the episodes to see at what level they seem to be able to get things across to each other. I mean they all seem to have some level of understanding of pony even if they can't speak it.
